This game needed an art upgrade. Here it is: It's not completely done yet, but this is going to be the new style. I'll update the store page to match it soon. Also in the image: me (Blue) losing to my own AI. I'm continuing to look for AI strategies that are both challenging and fun. What approach is most effective in the different stages of the game? Is it fun if the AI tries to spoil your strategies? And if not, how can the AI deal with the player trying to spoil its' strategy? Optimization is also becoming an issue. Late in the game, the AI takes an annoyingly long time to make moves. With all this in mind, I had to delay the demo. I planned it for May, but it will now come out a few months later. - Ramón

Last month has mostly been work on the AI. Here is a gif of it in action: What you're seeing is the test-version of the AI. It picks a random piece, rotates it a random number of turns, then calculates the most effective place to put it. It does this calculation for every spot within three spaces of a tile. My last month has mostly been spent making, debugging and optimizing this code. The moves it makes are quite good. I sometimes see a more effective move it could have made instead, but it's more often that it outsmarts me. The next thing will be to balance it, through lots of playtesting, so that it gives the right amount of challenge to every player.

DEMO With the core gameplay now done, I have started work on a demo. I am hoping to release it in May 2025. The demo will have all the features and gamemodes of the full game - you will even be able to play online once that's implemented! However, you will only be able to play a limited number of times. NEW PLANNED GAMEMODE I recently realized that Battle-Lines would make a fine single-player game too. So I'm adding a Single-Player Mode. Instead of competing against others, you'd try to reach the score in a minimal number of moves. The AI could be used as a hint system. Other gamemodes I'm experimenting with is to play with either larger pieces (up to 8 hexes), or smaller ones (2 hexes). The winning scores get adjusted, too. It sounds like a small change, but I found that it greatly impacts how complex the game is. Playing with small pieces is very relaxing, while the large pieces actua…
