You can disable the spell at any time by casting it again, which removes the effect and gives you the reserved mana back.The first spell using this system is Arcane Gift.   New Enemies, Spells and Dungeon ImprovementsIt has been a while since the last Steam update, and a lot of progress has happened during that time. Many improvements went to combat, visuals, performance, and dungeon variety.New Content and Combat ImprovementsSeveral new gameplay additions were introduced during this period.A new spell, Ice Bolt, joined the spell arsenal, bringing another elemental option to combat. The Infernal Skeleton has also entered the dungeon as a new enemy type.Enemy encounters have received a larger redesign as well. Instead of monsters appearing as completely random combinations, enemies can now spawn in thematic groups or bands. This creates more believable encounters, such as an Imp Mage leading a group of lesser Imps or a Skeleton Captain fighting alongside regular Skeletons.Ranged enemy behavior was also significantly improved. Text rendering is now handled correctly with proper and really nice font support, making the game more accessible for a wider audience. I hope more languages can be added in foreseeable future.Rune ForgeThe Rune Forge is one of the core professions available to the player, focused entirely on manipulating and improving equipment. Maybe Rune Forge is not best fit for the name. Arcane Forge maybe?The interface is built around seven slots. One central slot holds the item you want to work on, and six surrounding slots form a hexagram where you place sacrificial items. From there, the system offers two main actions: identifying items and enhancing them.Identification depends on the rarity of the item.   One thing that had been overdue for a long time was refreshing the Steam screenshots. The previous ones were over a year old and no longer represented how the game actually looks. With the newer lighting, particles, and general visual polish, the difference is quite noticeable.A good portion of time was spent on general polishing rather than adding new features. The focus was on improving the overall feel of the game. Several quality-of-life improvements were added, gameplay interactions were refined, and many smaller issues were cleaned up along the way.   The first major pass on the 3D player with equipment is essentially in place. It still needs polish and additional content, but the foundation is finally there. Player, weapons, shield, equipment.New basic 3D shield is modeled along with other weapons and all of them received the full texture set. That unblocked a significant amount of work on the character side.   After two years of development, last year was less about big visual changes and more about making the game feel solid and reliable. I am not saying that visual changes were smaller, but there is no huge leap between start and the end of the year.A lot of work went into smoothing out combat, enemy behavior, visuals, controls, saving/loading, and the overall “feel” of playing. Kind of improvements you notice while playing, even if they are not always obvious in screenshots.
