- State Of Development - 20 July 2026
Despite my best efforts, the redesigned demo was not ready in time for Train Fest. Adding two new directions (up right and down right) is taking longer than expected. Please accept my apologies along with the small consolation that is this progress report. Hexagons are the Bestagons! From the expectation that you should be able to build your track anywhere you want and in any order you want while still having it all line up, hexagons do this job nicely. Build out your track network any way you see fit as long as it's on the hex-grid and primarily in the rightward direction.Planning your networkGrab your trusty shovel and start digging! Preparing the ground is the first step when building out your track network. As you shovel, survey flags will mark out the edges of the to be constructed track. Some light grading work will help you quickly establish the shape of your fledgling rail empire.…
- Important Update - De-Listing the demo - 22 March 2026
The demo was de-listed on Thursday, March 12th. If you already have the demo in your Steam library, it will continue to function normally. You won't lose access!Thank you so much for all the wonderful feedback. I’ve learned a ton from hearing about your experience and I’m already busy applying it to move the game forward. This may feel like a step backwards but I think it's one of those one step back to take two steps forward kind of things. Why the Demo is Coming DownReducing Overhead: Patching the demo takes a surprising amount of time away from core development. Treating the demo like an Early Access product isn't the right strategy for me right now. I need to better focus on building, not maintaining.Aligning with Dev Blogs: My recent updates are showing content, like breaking big rocks, that isn't in the demo. This is causing confusion for new players looking for mechanics that seem…
- Demo Update - Hotfix 0.2.12.2 - 20 February 2026
Demo Update - New Cart Control and Save! - 0.2.12Another hotfix to address a critical issue. The achievement name got cleared causing the demo to stop it. If you load a completed save, the achievement should be given.Quit to Title will now save your game automatically.Bugfixes- Finishing the demo will award the achievement- Loading a completed save will award the achievement- Stop the tree from infinitely sawing itself in half
- Demo Update - New Cart Control and Save! - 0.2.12 - 16 February 2026
This update adds a single save slot so you can complete the demo over multiple sessions, and it makes the handcart a lot friendlier to work with. Derailing is no longer a soft lock!Controls for the handcart have been reworked to feel more like operating the real mechanism. Hold on to the handle like you would grab anything else and use the primary movement up/down buttons to move the handle up or down. Keep in mind the cart is modeled with an eccentric cam. This means that pressing up has the opposite effect every other stroke. Alternate your input in coordination with the handle.Other than bug fixes, this will be the last demo update for a while. I need to focus on the next phase of development. Thank you to everyone who took time to share their experience! The response to this weird train game has vastly exceeded my expectations. Thanks largely to your feedback, I feel that the game i…
- Demo Update - Usability Update 2 Fixes - 0.2.11 - 13 January 2026
Spike CleanupTired of leaving your spikes laying all over the ground? Now you can put them back! Return spikes by using the drop button on any barrel with room.FixesIf you completed the demo since the last update (1/6/26) and didn't get your achievement, start a new game and it should be awarded.- Return spikes to the barrel using the drop action (default keyboard Q, gamepad East Button)- Kicking will no longer kick objects that should never move.- Kicking is now metered, holding the kick button will kick harder.- A spike maul laying on the ground will no longer automatically hammer spikes. - The barrel just north of the starting location will now give spikes.- Steam Achievement was saving locally but not updating steam.- Added binding for crouch key, we're just about out of room for binding controls.- Ultra-wide main menu fix.- Spike placement prompt prevents dropping the hammer after…
- Demo Update - Usability Update 2 - 0.2.10 - 6 January 2026
One more refinement update before we move on to feature improvements. I noticed there was some confusion regarding how to use the hand tools. The first rail segment now has prompts for setting the rail and driving nails. You have two hands. You can now carry two spikes at a time. This update introduces kicking, this should make minor errors in dropped placement a lot less punishing. There are also a load of little polishing fixes to streamline the experience. Importantly the framerate is now caped by default to 60 fps. This should fix an issue where the game would max out your GPU to achieve 500 fps. Thank you to everyone who has shared their experience with the demo! I think the improvements are substantial over the initial version and I very much doubt I could have made these corrections without your help.0.2.10 Patch notes- First segment construction prompts for all first time action…
- Demo Update - Usability Update 0.2.9 - Quick Fix - 29 December 2025
Just a quick update to correct a soft lock where the hammer is permanently destroyed.- Dropping the axe on the return animation will no longer destroy the axe.- Dropping equipment is now consistent with dropping railroad components. Primary action will drop equipment when it's hanging by your side. Not obvious there is a dedicated drop button.
- Demo Update - Usability Update 0.2.8 - 29 December 2025
Thanks to your feedback, I've been able to address some the biggest issues making it needlessly hard to play the demo.By far the biggest issue was the double spike placement on the second segment. Logically, you'd want to nail down the start of the rail, but we already put down a nail there on the previous segment. This was completely unintuitive. This change should go a long way to reducing confusion for new players.- Removed the double spike placement- Holding down the button when swinging the hammer will automatically start the next swing- Hitting objects with tools gives feedback- Improved throwing consistency and control, still room for improvement- Stakes can be thrown into place.- The axe will unstuck itself when embed out of reach.- Pause menu back navigation will resume time- Prevent grabbing axe while grabbing barrel- Player won't be pushed by hand cart while standing on hand…
- Train Goes Right - Demo - 24 December 2025
Train Goes Right - Demo LaunchedFor better or worse. The Train Goes Right demo is now available! After a number of rapid hotfixes, the version is now 0.2.6. Please continue to let me know if you encounter issues.First of all, thank you to everyone who has played! I know it's been a struggle. The achievement is working again, and I moved the trigger to the first built segment. It will move back to the end of the level at some point, but it's my apology to anyone I’ve tortured. If you haven’t played yet, get your easy achievement while it lasts!Short Term GoalsThe first issue I’ll be addressing is the strict build order. It’s intuitive to keep pulling ties and the game should recognize building rail in any order. You should be able to hold more than one spike at a time. Shuffling back and forth from the barrel is not fun.Nudging, it’s not fun picking up ties to make a minute adjustment. We…
