- Field Notes: The Road to Spring - 23 July 2026
We've been heads-down on the demo for a while, so we made a roadmap to actually show where things stand. Nothing here is a promise carved in stone. It's just an honest snapshot of what's done, what we're building, and where we want to take it.The Foundation is already in the game. Your body and its needs, weather that genuinely affects you, picking things up and moving them around, and a world you read by listening to it.The Survival Core is what's on our desks right now. Everything points at one thing: the demo goal of surviving three nights. Fire, shelter, hunting, saving your run.And past the demo sits the Vision. Making it through winter to spring, growing as you learn the world and settle into it, and the deeper systems we want to build once the core is solid. We're a small team, so if this is your kind of survival game, a wishlist means a lot!Follow along for more:YouTubeDiscordTik…
- Paleolith Main Menu - 1 June 2026
Hello everyone! We're happy to share a fresh look at Paleolith's main menu. From the very beginning, we wanted to create an interface that feels like a natural part of the Stone Age world. The design relies on stone textures and hand‑drawn charcoal icons, aiming to feel authentic to the era rather than resembling a modern UI.We're still refining the details but the core idea is already in place: a diegetic and authentic interface that keeps you immersed in the era.📺 Watch the full video: For more news and to be part of our community, visit us on Patreon, Discord and Ko-Fi. - Hunting that starts long before the throw - 13 April 2026
Hi there!Today we want to share one of the mechanics of our game with you: hunting. In Paleolith, animals don't wait to be found. The deer hears footsteps, catches your scent, and flees long before you even see it.To succeed in a hunt, you need to: — move against the wind, — stay quiet and avoid sudden movements — a twig underfoot or any sharp move will give you away, — stalk, don't run.Hunting here is about paying attention to the world around you. The wind, the ground under your feet, the way the animal moves — all of it matters. What hunting mechanics would you like to see added to the game, and how do you feel about the ones already there? If you want to be part of our community, visit us on Patreon, Discord and Ko-Fi. - Bedding from spruce branches - 23 February 2026
Hey everyone! We are moving towards the upcoming playtest, so now is a good time to share content updates with our community!Today, we want to show one specific mechanic that will be in Paleolith. You can pick up spruce branches from a tree and use them to make a bed to sleep in. After that, you won't suffer from the cold or diseases that are typical of sleeping on the bare ground. If you want to see more relevant news about our game, check out Patreon or Discord. Thanks again for all your support!– The Paleolith team
- Waking up thirsty: sleep system prototype - 14 July 2025
In Paleolith, sleep isn’t just a menu option — it’s a real, animated action. We’ve been working on a basic version of the sleep mechanic, and here’s how it works right now:The character lies down with a full-body animationTime speeds up — fatigue, thirst, hunger, and health change dynamicallyWhen thirst reaches a critical level, the character wakes up automaticallyThis is just one part of a larger system where your needs shape how long you can rest and what happens while you sleep. In future versions, shelter warmth, weather, and dreams will all affect sleep.💬 We’d be happy to hear what you think — feel free to leave a comment.🔥 If you’d like to help us move faster, support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/paleolith
- Spear fishing prototype and reactive water - 6 July 2025
(Direct link, just in case)Here’s a look at our spear fishing mechanic - now supported by a reactive water system. The water responds to: – fish movement – player movement – thrown objects like spears or rocksIt’s intentionally hard to hit a moving fish - especially with imprecise tools and physical aiming. But when it works, it feels earned. This is still early and rough: some visual bugs remain, the spear is a placeholder, and wave settings need adjustment. But the interaction is starting to come together - and we’re excited to show you how it’s evolving.Thank you for following Paleolith!Even a small monthly pledge on Patreon helps us work faster - and believe in what we’re building.
- Core systems are starting to breathe – here's how it looks - 29 June 2025
Hey everyone,We're making steady progress on the essential survival systems. Here’s a look at two core mechanics that are already playable: eating and fire maintenance.(If this animation stutters or runs slowly on your device (especially on iOS), you can watch it on YouTube.)🍎 Eating mechanic🔥 Fueling the fire(If playback is choppy or unresponsive, you can see it smoothly on YouTube.)There’s still a lot of work ahead — visually, technically, and mechanically — but we’re aiming to get all core systems playable and functional before polishing visuals. If you'd like to support the project and help us move faster, consider becoming a patron: 👉 https://www.patreon.com/paleolithThanks again for following our journey. – The Paleolith team
- 🔥 Fire system – first look - 26 May 2025
Here’s a first look at our fire system in action. Everything you see is physical — no scripted burning (Burning process below is sped up for clarity) https://naturegam.es/paleolith/images/fire.gif Logs burn down into chunks and disappear over time Fire spreads between physically interacting logs Sparks fly as wood crackles and shifts Each log is a real object you can add to the fire Next up: natural smoke, glowing embers, ash — and burning any stick you find in the woods. Still early and rough, but already brings the fire to life.

- Food thoughts - 4 April 2025
One of the first challenges you’ll face in any survival game is finding food. Unlike other threats in Paleolith, hunger is a constant — an ever-present need that doesn’t ebb and flow with the seasons the way cold does. Fortunately, the wilderness offers many ways to fill your stomach. Foraging The simplest and most accessible option. Wander through the forest and gather berries, roots, mushrooms, and other edible plants. Not all of them are safe to eat, though — sometimes, learning which plants are nutritious and which are toxic is a matter of trial and error. That knowledge will be essential as you progress. Hunting This is where things get more advanced. Animals in Paleolith aren’t just passive targets — they have keen senses and will actively avoid being spotted, let alone attacked. Whether you're trying to bring down a deer or a rabbit, you’ll need to carefully consider your approac…
- Think of the environment! - 20 March 2025
Once we decided on Paleolith’s time period, the next big question was: where should the game take place? Survival games explore all kinds of environments — some set their challenges in dense jungles, vast deserts, open oceans, or even deep space. Each setting brings its own unique hardships, from the relentless heat of the sun to the crushing pressure of the deep sea. But for Paleolith, we needed an environment that naturally supports our core gameplay loop. Temper our expectations Imagine Paleolith took place in the tropics. What challenges would the player face? Heat, monsoons, droughts — these are real threats, but they don’t provide the structured, escalating survival difficulty we were looking for. Instead, we wanted something with clear seasonal progression, where the environment itself becomes an evolving challenge. A temperate continental climate was the obvious choice, with its…
- Paleolithic Tools of Survival - 8 March 2025
Establishing our baseline Once we settled on the time period for Paleolith, we dove deep into research to understand the tools early humans used to survive. At this point in history, people hadn't yet mastered raw material crafting — there was no metalwork, no pottery, no refined tools. That left us with the most primitive yet essential instruments: sticks and stones. Have you ever walked through a forest, spotted a particularly good-looking stick, and thought, "Wow, this would make a great spear"? That’s your survival instinct kicking in — the same instinct you'll rely on in Paleolith. Not all sticks are created equal, and in the wild, you'll quickly learn which ones are strong enough for hunting, building, or crafting. Of course, sticks alone won’t get you far. Some people enjoy collecting nice stones instead — and in Paleolith, these are just as valuable. Different stones serve diffe…
- Introducing Paleolith - 20 February 2025
Humanity at its dawn — crafting its first tools, carving out a place in a wild, untamed world. Aeons of evolution have led to this moment, but now, stripped of modern comforts, you face the ultimate test: survive at all costs. This is the world of Paleolith — a first-person survival game being developed by Nature Games, a small international indie studio. A Survival Experience Rooted in Reality Our goal with Paleolith is simple: to create the most immersive, authentic prehistoric survival experience possible. At the core of this vision lies realistic simulation — a dynamic ecosystem where nature follows its own rules: A living world — seasons change, weather shifts, and the day-night cycle influences both you and the wildlife. No scripted ambushes — wolves don’t magically spawn at your campsite; animals react naturally to your presence. Survival on nature’s terms — adapt or perish in a…
