- The City of Brightville: Where steam meets magic - 3 December 2025
At the center of Welcome to Brightville stands the city itself, a place born from invention and consumed by it.Brightville was once a modest town, a collection of workshops and factories. Everything changed at the dawn of the industrial age, when scientists discovered a new kind of energy - a magical force of unclear origin. It began to power the city's machinery and automatons. The city expanded. Victorian-era red brick buildings with massive chimneys are now covered with wires and neon signs flickering against soot-stained walls. The skyline is now cut by the silhouettes of towers that never sleep. After the AI uprising in the city, everything changed again. What was once progress became chaos wrapped in steam and spellcraft. Now automotons roam the streets hunting the survivors.

- Devlog: From grey cubes to city streets! How Brightville takes shape. - 15 August 2025
This is an early look at one of the levels we’re developing for Welcome to Brightville. We’re currently testing how combat design, enemy movement, and level layout interact with one another. A blockout like this lets us work on these systems in context.Do jumps feel natural? Is there space to react to fast-moving enemies? How fast should they be? Can a city layout still support exploration and ranged combat? Some of the enemies can even crawl on walls; that's also a mechanic to consider in level design. At this point, the focus isn’t on aesthetics, but on clarity and cohesion.Only when it works do we move to visuals. We want to be sure Brightville plays as well as it looks!
- Devlog: mixing spells! - 24 July 2025
As development on Welcome to Brightville progresses, we’re diving into one of the most satisfying aspects of our combat system: spell combinations.Right now, we’re testing how our spells can interact with each other in the game world. These interactions aren’t just visual; they impact enemies and can help you control the battlefield. Here’s one example of a potential combo: cast an acid puddle and then strike it with a lightning bolt to electrify the area. Anyone who steps into it might regret that decision. Work in progress, of course. Things might change; we’re still experimenting and figuring out what feels right. Stay tuned, and thank you for following the development of Brightville!
- In-Engine Reveal: The Ghost People - 4 July 2025
Ghost People drift through Brightville like echoes of the past. But don’t be fooled - some of them are not as passive as they seem. These beings remain motionless until you least expect it… Then they strike, testing your sense of safety in familiar places.Unlike typical enemies, Ghost People won’t chase you outright. Most of them won't attack you at all! But some prefer to remain eerily still, waiting for you to turn your back or let your guard down. This mechanic creates suspense and forces players to stay alert even in seemingly safe places.
- Meet the Gentleman! - 19 June 2025
We continue to share information about the inhabitants of Brightville. And this time... Meet the Gentleman! An imposing figure you'll never forget. One of Brightville’s iconic residents, you might say. Originally designed as an aid in de-escalating conflicts in places like bars and shops, it soon became the "law enforcer" for the AI that took over the city. You don't find the Gentleman, The Gentleman finds you... And punishes you for causing "trouble" on the streets of Brightville!
- A look behind the scenes - 15 May 2025
Hey everyone! The dust after the "Welcome to Brightville" reveal has settled, thank you for your wishlists! We’re deep in preparation for something exciting we can’t wait to share with you. In the meantime, here’s a peek behind the scenes! It's a concept art for one of our enemy types - a "handy" spider-like reconnaissance bot. They’re quick and true to their spider nature love climbing walls and sticking to the shadows. This enemy will be one of the first opponents the players encounter on the path to uncovering the mysteries of Brightville. Stay tuned we’ll share more soon!
- Steampunk and fantasy collide in new action-adventure sim Welcome to Brightville - 9 April 2025
There are several ways to my heart. Chocolate, esports shirts, pretty DnD dice, and dystopian, steampunk RPGs with cyberpunk flair. While the first three are relatively easy to come by, the latter, not so much. While BioShock has the steampunk, it lacks the cyberpunk, and while CD Project Red's magnum opus oozes neon, it's grounded in real-life. Welcome to Brightville , a brand new indie from Contrast Games, blends BioShock's contemporary feel with Night City's neon-bathed grime and Avowed's fantasy combat, and, as you've likely guessed, it's immediately found a spot on my wishlist.
