- 🌿 June & July Devlog! - 31 July 2026
Hey everyone! 💚We'll be honest: June and July were so intense that we didn't stop long enough to write a Devlog. We've been heads-down, pushing to get a fully playable version of Heidi's Legacy from the very first scene to the final credits, and we got there!! So today we're catching up with a double Devlog, and there's a lot to cover! 🗺️ Zones 3 to 5: A Mountain Takes Shape This was an enormous amount of work: weeks of sculpting and level design across zones 3 to 5. The lake, the camping spot, the stone benches near Sebastian's place, the glacier... the upper mountain is now a real place to explore, with its own atmosphere and secrets at every turn!📖 The Full Story Is Written On the narrative side, Act 6 is complete, a lot of new dialogue has been added to balance the pacing across all acts, and a light romance system for the NPCs is fully implemented. The whole story of Heidi's Leg…
- 🌸 May Devlog! - 12 June 2026
Hey everyone! 💚May was a packed month for us! First things first, if you haven't seen it yet, we released a big demo update at the start of the Cozy Games Celebration. You can find the full changelog here. Beyond the demo, we kept ourselves busy and made a lot of progress on the full game. Here's what we've been up to! 📖 Acts 4 & 5 Are Written and In-GameThis is a big one. We finished writing and implementing the dialogues for both Act 4 and Act 5, which means a big part of the narrative arc of Heidi's Legacy is playable from start to finish in its first pass! There's still a lot of polish ahead, and the grand Finale to write, but having most of the story in the game is a major milestone for us! 🧵 Meet ClaraWe introduced Clara, making her first appearance in Act 4! She now has her own meshes, appearing both in a cutscene and at her spot in the village later in the game. WIP version of…
- 🐐 Demo Update - Cozy Games Celebration is Here! - 28 May 2026
Hey everyone! 💚We're thrilled to be part of the Cozy Games Celebration happening right now on Steam! To mark the occasion, we've been hard at work on a new demo update packed with visual improvements, new systems, and a bunch of fixes based on your feedback. Here's everything that's new:🎬 Visuals & AtmosphereThe opening cutscene with Heidi and Grandpa has been redone! The characters have a “boiling” animation, trees sway in the breeze, clouds drift across the sky, and the whole scene feels much more alive!Heidi is now sharper! Following your feedback, we increased the resolution of her viewport Added a new background for Peter's hutThe end-of-demo "newcomers" cutscene has a brand new background tooHeidi now has a sad expression for certain dialogue momentsInteractive buttons in the world now disappear while Heidi is in a conversation, for a more immersive experienceRefreshed icons for…
- April Devlog! 🕖 - 30 April 2026
Hey everyone! 💚April was a big month on multiple fronts! A major overhaul of how time works in the game, quality-of-life improvements from your demo feedback, and a lot of progress on Act 3! ⏱️ Complete Rework of the Time SystemThis was the most significant change of the month, and one that directly came from demo feedback. Many of you found the time periods too restrictive, only being able to tend to the goats in the morning, or only crafting once in the afternoon felt limiting and sometimes frustrating. We agreed, and we rebuilt the system from scratch!Time now passes in real time, at a rate of one in-game minute per second, from 7am to 7pm. After that, the game enters an open-ended evening mode, giving you time to chat with villagers and wind down before sleeping without any time pressure (Stardew Valley players know the 2am rush!)In practice, this means you're no longer locked into…
- March Devlog! 🌲 - 3 April 2026
Hey everyone! 💚March was a big month for us: our very first public demo launched on March 6th as part of the Women's Day Sale on Steam, and the response was wonderful. In one week, more than 2000 players explored the mountains with Heidi for the first time, and your feedback has already shaped a first round of updates. Thank you for playing and sharing your thoughts! 🐐 🛠️ Demo Fixes & ImprovementsWe made some updates to the demo: the most common feedback we received was about controls. We removed long-press mouse clicks in several places, including when talking to NPCs, to make things feel more fluid. You can also hold the left mouse button to guide Heidi around (rather than only clicking somewhere). And to make interactive objects easier to spot, the cursor now changes shape when hovering over something you can interact with.We also completely redesigned the dairy mini-game! Previous…
- Demo Update! 🐐 - 19 March 2026
Hello everyone! On March 6th, we launched our very first demo for Heidi's Legacy as part of the Women's Day Sale on Steam - and wow, what a response! Hundreds of you explored the mountains with Heidi, herded goats, and shared your thoughts with us. We are incredibly grateful for every single review, comment, and piece of feedback. It truly means the world to a small team like ours. 💚We read everything carefully, and today we are releasing an update to the demo that directly addresses the most common feedback we received. Here is what changed!Smoother controls 🎮Many of you pointed out that the game relied too heavily on long-press interactions, and that having them scattered across so many different actions made things feel awkward and slow. We heard you! We removed long-press interactions in several places, including when talking to NPCs, to make the experience feel more natural and re…
- February Devlog! 🦋 - 15 March 2026
Hello everyone! February has been a big month for us as we sprinted toward the demo that we released on March 6th! A lot of work happened behind the scenes, but also plenty of things that players will directly feel when playing for the first time. Let’s take a look!A brand new look for Heidi 💆Last month we talked about how we reworked the goats’ animations. This month, we did the same for Heidi herself! We modernized her whole outfit, which meant updating her appearance everywhere: in-game, cutscenes, dialogue portraits, and even the tutorial images. For the walking character, originally, Heidi was built from 3D meshes and animated in Blender, but we’ve now switched her to the same system we use for the goats: 2D polygons projected in a viewport. This gives us smoother performance and more flexibility when animating. Before (3D meshes, Blender) and after (2D polygons, Godot)Making this c…
- January Devlog! 🌼 - 17 February 2026
Hey everyone! It’s already half February, welcome to the January update for the game 🙈🐐 This month we focused on visuals, animation pipeline improvements, new characters, and heavy testing so we can get a big surprise ready... !🐐 Goats, revisited (big technical change)First off, we completely reworked how goats are rendered and animated! Previously we assembled and animated them in Blender using 3D skeletons, then imported those animations into the game, running in 3D in the world. This month we moved to Godot’s 2D animator, redid all the animations, and projected these animations on what we call a viewport. It’s like playing the animation on a TV screen and moving the screen around! Before and afterThis change significantly improves performance on lower-end hardware and simplifies runtime animation control.A related change was how we color goats. We used to recolor them with a shader…
- December Devlog! 🎄 - 6 January 2026
Hey everyone 💚 Despite taking some much deserved rest over the vacation period, December was a big month for Heidi’s Legacy, packed with some meticulous work behind the scenes and a few visible upgrades we are excited to share with you!🏃♀️ 8-direction movement for AdèleA big part of December was dedicated to making Adèle move in 8 directions instead of 4!This sounds simple on paper, but it turned into a bit of a time consuming task. We had to draw all the missing body parts, duplicate and adapt skeletons in Blender, manually draw keyframes, and redo animations to make sure everything stayed consistent and natural. It took some patience, but the result makes movement in the game feel much smoother and more alive! We still have some work to do on the animations, but the basis is there.🎄 A refreshed area around Peter’s houseWe also completely remodeled the landscape around Peter’s house…
- November Devlog! ☕ - 15 December 2025
Hey everyone! 💚 Another cozy month has flown by, and we are excited to share what we have been working on for Heidi’s Legacy!More life through VFX We spent quite some time polishing visual effects across the game to make actions feel more satisfying. You can now see clearer feedback when goats munch on the right flowers, when a production mini game succeeds, and during the mushroom digging mini game. We still need to add more, these small touches are essential to any video game! A world full of sound Sound design also got a huge upgrade this month! Where we once only had music and a few UI sounds, the game is now filled with ambience. You can hear the village hens come alive, windy atmospheres higher up in the mountains, frogs croaking near the ponds, birds chirping, footsteps for Adèle and the goats, goats bleating, and many new UI sounds! It has completely changed how the world feels…
- October Devlog! 🎡 - 7 November 2025
Hey everyone! October was a packed month for us on Heidi’s Legacy, and we’re excited to share everything we’ve been working on behind the scenes. This update touches UI, gameplay, worldbuilding, and core systems. Lots of invisible but important progress!🎡 The Quest Wheel - small interface, BIG workOne of the biggest features we tackled this month is something we internally call the Quest Wheel. It’s a clean, simple interface that gathers all quests from all NPCs in one place, making it easier to track your progress. From there, you can choose to “watch” a quest: this pins a small blue ribbon to the top-right corner of your HUD, helping you remember the task without overwhelming the screen. It may look like a modest little interface… but behind it lies a huge amount of work: quest structuring, tracking logic, UI integration, and making everything react to players choices. We're really pr…
- September Devlog! 🏔️ - 17 October 2025
Hey everyone! 💚We’ve been hard at work bringing our cozy mountain game to life, and we can’t wait to share what we’ve been cooking (literally!)First off, we focused on the cooking mechanic, and its renowned chef Birgit! She now has her own hand-painted portrait and her lovely little corner of the mountain village is finished ✨She can now live surrounded by her adorable chickens! We drew them in Photoshop and animated them in Blender, doing our best to capture all their clucky charm. We also coded so that you can collect their eggs in the dedicated basket, which you can then use for cooking in Birgit’s stove 🥚We also revisited the merge minigame that you might remember from the mushroom-drying feature. This time, we adapted it for Birgit’s cooking station! You’ll be able to combine different ingredients to prepare tasty berry muffins. We created a brand-new background for it!Behind the…
- August Devlog! 🏔️ - 28 August 2025
Hi everyone!August has been an incredible month for Heidi’s Legacy — from new features in the demo to our very first public showing at Gamescom! Let’s dive in.A Brand-New Recipe Mini-Game 🍄✨We’ve been working hard to implement a new recipe system for the demo, just in time for Gamescom! In this mini-game, you’ll combine 2, 3, or 4 ingredients by aligning them in the correct order to craft handmade goods. Bonus lines even give you extra items - so planning your moves carefully really pays off. It’s a fun way to bring crafting to life, and we’re excited for you to try it in the demo.A Peek at Birgit’s House 🏡Next up: more progress on our 3D-but-2D pipeline with Blender. This month, we shared a work-in-progress look at Birgit’s cozy little house - complete with red roof tiles, flower beds, and a warm welcome. Soon, Adele will be able to go talk to Birgit and help her with various cooking…
- July Devlog! 🏔️ - 6 August 2025
Hi everyone! 👋July has flown by, and we’ve been hard at work getting Heidi’s Legacy ready for the big stage: Gamescom 2025! 🎉 We’re thrilled to be part of the Indie Arena Booth (Hall 10.2), and that means a lot of preparation behind the scenes: printings for the booth, designing cards and stickers, scheduling meetings, and (of course) polishing the demo so it runs smoothly and bug-free for everyone who plays it in Köln ✨🐐 Bug Fixes: The Sliding SagaThis month, we tackled a series of physics bugs that caused goats - and even Adèle - to slide around like they were on ice! While it was sometimes funny to watch, it’s not quite the peaceful mountain life we imagined 🙄🌫️ Bringing the Mountains to Life w/ Volumetric Fog To make the game’s atmosphere even richer, we implemented volumetric fog across the mountain landscapes. Now, morning mist rolls down the hills, and sunsets feel more dram…
