- 10 years since release of Sylvio - 5 June 2025
I was renting a small office desk in Stockholm at the time, me and five other people crammed together on 25 square meters on two floors. Nowadays I think it's a science fiction bookstore. Anyway, I was mostly alone in that office, the others had steady jobs, freelancing on the side. I'd been sitting there 6 days a week, 12 hours a day for two and a half years by now. I'd learnt Unity and built a game at the same time, and now I'd just pressed the green button on Steam. Almost immediately I got a message from someone, telling me he was unable to pick up the very first item, basically breaking the game after the first 30 seconds of playing. I buried my face and broke down in the tiny wooden stairs we had leading up to the second floor. So much work, so much pressure and built up impostor syndrome, I've never had that feeling of melting brain before. After a while I managed to pick up what…

- Sylvio Live Stream - 31 October 2022
🌜STEAM SCREAM STREAM🌛 As a part of the Steam Scream Fest, I'll be streaming a full Sylvio play through on Tuesday, November 1st, 18.00 CET. Come hang out! I'll comment on stuff, show in-game obscurities and answer any Q's. Can't guarantee you a blossoming qualitative time, because I've never done such a thing before. But I promise I'll give it a decent shot. See you then! //Niklas
- Fixed Ammo bug - 26 July 2022
* Bug where some ammo for the gun wouldn't work correctly. Turns out the tag list for the different kinds of ammo was corrupted in the last update. This made it so that all ammos had the same damage, as well as completely failing to trigger some of the easter eggs in the game. This should be fixed now.
- SYLVIO UPDATE - 6 July 2022
Important stuff first: Added the ability to Run. Added Custom Key Binding. Rearranged the gameplay in the second level, to make it more intuitive. Took away the combination lock function on all lockers. I've always seen it as a feature creep, and it makes the game unplayable for deaf players. Killed some long-living bugs. Various cosmetica. It's been five years since the last update. The release of Sylvio 2 caused me to burn out of gamedev I got back into working as a freelance composer, I co-founded an environmental startup, coded some apps. In 2021 I dipped my toe into gamedev again, with a project called Guidance. In the beginning of 2022, I got invited to join the Dread X Collection 5, a horror game collection put together by Dread XP. I had roughly two months to put together a game with a playtime of 45 minutes. Man, it was so intense, to just go from scratch zero to finished proje…
- Guidance : A new survival horror game from the creator of Sylvio - 2 November 2021
Guidance is a survival horror game about spirit possession. Play as Velvet, a golden-ager in search of his lost wife. Talk to spirits through the possessed, tranquillize the angry ones, and try to ignore those blackouts you're having. Velvet, a senior citizen and retired electrician, is on a guided bus tour far out in the wilderness with his wife Jo. Coming across an old abandoned village, the guide decides to go off the planned schedule and take the group for a short improvised exploration. Velvet, who chose to stay behind for a nap, wakes up alone several hours later in the dark bus. Equipped only with a tranquilizer gun he enters the village, determined to find his wife. Velvet communicates with the spirits that have possessed the other people from the group. His one and only concern is finding his wife, and will take any steps necessary in order to make that happen. He doesn't care…

- The 25 Best Horror Games On PC - 31 October 2017
To compile a list of the 25 best horror games on PC is to look into the void for so long that the void not only starts to look back, but shakes you by the hand and takes you out for coffee. It is to fight with monsters until you become a monster and then go on a European railtrip with the other monsters, and really bond over cocktails in Saint-Tropez. It is also a great way to explore the wide range of possible experiences within horror fiction. Here, there is something for everyone, even the squeamish and the easily-startled. Yes, there are jumpscares, but there are also slow-burn psychological dramas and tongue-in-cheek splatterfests. There are uncanny things and real terrors, but there are smiles and smirks among the shocks. (more…)
- Quietly creepy ghost-recording sequel Sylvio 2 is out - 12 October 2017
Sylvio is one of my favourite recent horror games . I described it as an “anti-screamer” because it’ll unnerve you with a whisper rather than startling you with a jumpscare. Most of the creepiness comes from listening to recordings of ghosts, playing tracks at various speeds and/or reversing them to hear the voices in the static. It also had bits where you shot giant shadowy figures and blobs. The sequel , which came out yesterday, ditches the shooting and adds video recordings alongside the audio tapes. I’ve had a quick look and listen. (more…)

- Update - Achievement glitch - 31 August 2017
I've received some reports on some of the achievements not working correctly. Thanks for reporting it, sorry about the delay in getting it fixed. I'd like to blame some problems with the original project files (which I had), but the truth is I've been swamped with the developing of Sylvio 2. Now however, you should receive any and all achievements you are entitled to when entering the start page. Just let it sit for a couple of seconds while it goes through your save data. Let me know if there are any issues with this (or anything else) at [email protected] Thanks! Niklas

- Sylvio 2 grabs a camera for more spooking in autumn - 21 April 2017
In an age when most horror games and movies are seen through the grainy lens of the protagonist’s camcorder, we were delighted by 2015’s Sylvio instead picking up a reel-to-reel sound recorder. Wandering around an abandoned park to record strange noises and reveal ghostly messages by manipulating the tapes was a novel treat. Now developers Stroboskop have announced Sylvio 2 and… yes, it will pick up a movie camera. That sounds potentially a shame but I do trust Stroboskop will do something interesting with this equipment too. Here, watch the announcement trailer: …
