- Mega Man is getting a six-disc vinyl soundtrack collection - 11 October 2019
Mega Man, the bluest gent in all of gaming, is getting his own six-disc soundtrack compilation this December, taking the form of a very nicely presented vinyl collection from Laced Records. The limited-edition compilation, officially titled Mega Man 1-11: The Collection, features 152 tracks, spanning over 30 years of game releases - squashed, as if by some sort of futuristic science magic, onto six discs presented in alternating Mega Man hues. Each disc is sleeved with some very attractive artwork (and all delicately slithered into a "luxury ridged board slip case"), with the first three records featuring the complete remastered soundtracks of Mega Men 1-3. Yes, you read the headline right. Capcom has announced that Mega Man is being adapted into a live-action Hollywood film for the first time (and maybe the last). To mark Mega Man's 30th anniversary, Capcom believes a live-action film will "energise the brand further" and has given it the working title "MEGA MAN" in all-caps because it's obviously going to be ACTION packed. The film's going to be directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the folks that brought you horror films like Paranormal Activity 3 and 4. If this is anything to go by, Capcom could end up showing a darker, grittier side of Mega Man to fans - his Mega Buster cannon tearing enemies to shreds, quiet scenes in the local android cafe where Mega Man sits with his mate Proto Man and seriously questions his entire existence dedicated to fighting robots - this sort of thing. I was a little dismissive when Capcom announced the Mega Man Legacy Collection during E3 in June, thinking that the bundle of Mega Man 1-6 would be the usual slapdash retro collection with some ugly graphics filters on top. Oh, what a terrible cynic I was! It actually seems a fairly loving attempt to preserve them, and ‘porting’ studio Digital Eclipse’s first crack at the video games equivalent of “scanning a film in 4K” to create a print usable for the ages.
