- Bug Off v0.6.0: Rounds and Fireballs in PvP - 6 February 2026
Bug Off v0.6.0With the previous update, a new PvP mode was silently added to the game. It was a mode where you and your friends could fight each other by stomping with a pair of slippers, without any rules or a final goal.Playtests have proven slippers alone were not enough for a truly fun experience. While stomping friends was nice, the endless nature of the mode gave no time to take a breath, and the lack of ranged abilities made it impossible to fight an enemy who decided to flee every battle. So a huge amount of work was done to address these issues, along with some more fixes and improvements.PvP RoundsPvP play sessions are not endless anymore, they are limited to 3 rounds. Now you need to gain 5 points by defeating other players to win a round, and the match winner is the player who won the most rounds. There is also some time between rounds when you can't gain points. Players' heal…
- Patch 0.4.1: Huge Visual Changes - 18 December 2025
Updated Museum LevelUp until now, Bug Off had a single level to play, and its colors were mostly black and white, making the overall feel too strict for the bug-squashing theme. With update v0.4.1, the existing Museum level lighting has been updated to make it more pleasing to the eye. Here you can see the new look of the Museum level.New LevelsTo add more variety to the game, patch v0.4.1 introduces two new levels: Mansion and Rural.MansionThis is a dark indoor level with mostly warm chandelier lighting and some blue moonlight passing through the windows. The bugs look especially nice here thanks to their glowing shells and outlines. I will talk more about this later in the post.Rural This level breaks the original idea of the game taking place entirely indoors. However, the game needed a cozy touch, so I decided to take the risk and make this level outdoors, with bright warm sunlight,…

- Help Us Get a Nomination for "Most Innovative Gameplay"! - 24 November 2025
Hey everyone! It's Steam Awards season, and we're aiming for Most Innovative Gameplay, because, let's be honest, controlling two slippers to squash bugs is pretty unusual. If you'd like to support the game, a nomination would mean a lot. Thanks for being here!
- Bug Off Has Launched! - 13 October 2025
Yep, it finally happened - I’ve released the game! Download it now and challenge me on the leaderboard… if you dare. Why Early Access? The short answer: a small following. You see, there are certain criteria a game should meet to have a successful release, one that can actually cover its development costs. One such criterion is a high wishlist count. If a game has no following at launch, it won’t be picked up by the algorithm, meaning almost no one will see it. To gain that much-needed visibility, the game itself has to be good and supported by some marketing efforts.Being a team of one, I just can’t do both development and marketing. So when the game was finished, it didn’t have a following large enough for a successful release.I had a choice: release now and start working on a new game, or postpone the release and focus on marketing this one. Putting all the effort into marketing doesn’t…
- Demo Patch 0.1.3: More Game Feel Updates and a Critical Bug Fix - 8 May 2025
Not much time has passed since the last patch, right? This patch was planned to be released a week after the previous one, but while working on it I found a critical bug. If you hit pause during gameplay and then canceled it, the game became unresponsive to input, completely unplayable until a full reload. I’m not sure when or how this bug crept in, but the fix ended up being a single line of code. Because it was such a serious issue, I decided to stop development on the rest of the patch and release everything that was already done with the fix. What Changed? The list is shorter than I originally intended, but even so, what did make it in are solid updates. The Egg Destroyed Effect In the last update, I added that cinematic camera roll on the egg after a game over, but… there was no visual or sound effect showing the egg was actually lost. Not a great experience, right? That wasn’t bec…
- Demo Patch 0.1.2: Demo release fix - 5 May 2025
When I was planning the demo release, I had a specific list of tasks to complete by the release date. Unfortunately, not everything went smoothly and not all tasks were completed, but I had no intention of postponing the release. So I focused on the most important ones and was able to finish at least those in time. The next step was to prioritize the rest and complete them ASAP. Today, I’m happy to say that the first batch of fixes is live with Patch 0.1.2 released. What Changed? The purpose of the demo is to show off the game, find people who might like it, and collect feedback to shape the game accordingly. Fixing the Feel. Most of the development process was focused on gameplay itself, the core mechanics: moving, stomping, jumping, squashing. But everything around it was kind of neglected. Take the game start/end cycle, for example, it's still far from perfect, but in the previous ve…
- The demo is here! - 5 May 2025
The demo was released on 2 May 2025. So yes, the news is 3 days late. But I have an excuse: I was working on some urgent bug fixes and improvements. To deliver them ASAP, I decided not to waste any time on posting news and announcements so I could focus on the most important tasks. And today I’ve completed the list and can breathe a little. Why now? Why not wait for the Next Fest? The main goal for the demo is to collect feedback from you, not to participate in the Next Fest. So I needed to get it up and running ASAP to not miss the chance to get any, even the tiniest bit of feedback. The demo will be participating in the Next Fest (if Steam allows) and will NOT be taken down after the Next Fest. I plan to deactivate the demo right before the full game release, and until then, the demo will be available and will be constantly updated along with the full game development. What’s in the D…
