- Shoot 'Em Up Kit Update - 1 October 2020
Hey everyone, we hope you are all keeping safe and well. We wanted to update you on the progress of the Shoot 'Em Up Kit as we shared some new features with you in August and have not yet released a new build. The new features have been held up by a major upgrade to the low-level engine, which the Kit uses for drawing sprites, models, audio, video, etc, that we've been working on for some time. We'd hoped and expected to have this finished in August but, despite the Kit working well with the new engine, there are still a lot of tasks which need completing. We're very aware people are waiting for some of the new features we've been sharing and so we are going to move those over to the existing engine. We can then work on finishing the new engine without holding up the new features. We'll get these features moved across as soon as we can and look forward to sharing the new build with you…

Matt has been replacing the rotation systems to fix some bugs and allow full Six degrees of freedom rotation for cockpit based flight. We're also upgrading the version of PhysX used within the Shoot 'Em Up Kit to improve collisions and physics simulations. We've updated the Tall Studios and Shoot 'Em Up Kit websites. The Shoot 'Em Up Kit website is now home for the Wiki and tutorials. We have also been quietly releasing updates to the Shoot 'Em Up Kit which contain bug fixes and optimisations, and we will cont…

- Update - November 2019 - 2 November 2019
Hello and thank you for checking out our November update for the Shoot ‘Em Up Kit. It has been a few months since the version 2.0.18 build was released and so we’d like to share our progress as we move towards the next release. Template Games We've been using the Shoot 'Em Up Kit to create some template games and new demos. These cover some of the common styles of shoot ‘em up: the side-scroller; vertical shooter; twin-stick; invaders; asteroids; and free roaming. We’re retiring the Wizard feature as this was complex to use and didn’t give the helpful starting point that the templates provide. Orthographic Cameras We’re pleased to say that orthographic cameras are now working and so you can create games without the perspective warping at the edges of the screen. The sprite-only project configuration is still available as this is a useful way of building games using screen pixel co-ordin…
