  • Developer Diary #4 - August 2, 2026 - 2 August 2026

Hello again! It's been 3 months since the last update. Lots to talk about. WishlistsMay and the Amazing Bouquet hit a new wishlist milestone! We've passed 250! Thank you all so much! I'm so glad to see this many people interested in the game!It may seem low compared to other games. But the game is still very in-development. I haven't begun any kind of major marketing push, and there's no playable demo yet which streamers could use to spread the word. Seeing so many people is great, but at the same time, a high wishlist number right now isn't critical for "the algorithm" (yet!). TripDuring June, I travelled to Poland. Partly to see the country that both of my parents immigrated from. And partly for inspiration. This meant no coding work for several weeks. But I also returned with several notebook pages filled with ideas and notes. Poland is a beautiful country and I'm very glad I was abl…

  • Developer Diary #3 - May 1, 2026 - 1 May 2026

Looking Back...Hello everyone! I'm MicalPixel, the developer of May and the Amazing Bouquet!Happy May Day (May 1)!It's been exactly 2 years since the spark that became May and the Amazing Bouquet was born. Including May herself. Which means it's May's IRL birthday (and canon birthday).May's initial design was finished on May 1, but she didn't get a name until the next day, May 2. The initial idea for this game was simple:Make a top-down pixelart action-adventure game...Which is lighthearted and also parodies such games.Instead of collecting eight important MacGuffins needed to vanquish evil, you would collect eight MacGuffins for a birthday party. While seemingly still taking a similar amount of time and effort on the protagonist's part. :DAnd yet, for May, this quest was still very important and taken very seriously. And hopefully her enthusiasm rubs off on the player too.The original…

  • Developer Diary #2 - April 1, 2026 - 1 April 2026

Hello everyone!I'm MicalPixel, the solo developer of May and the Amazing Bouquet ("MATAB")!Happy April Fools' Day! What a perfect time for an actually-serious update on the game. 😁Gosh, it's been a while, hasn't it? The last news update for May and the Amazing Bouquet was 3 months ago!! Nonetheless, progress on this game has moving along, and there's a lot to talk about!MenusThe game now has a consistent visual style for its menus. They will all feature a tan parchment-like background and border, with contents that are more colorful. For important menus, they will be divided into large buttons, each of which features a small animation of May when hovered over. For options menus, they will have all options listed vertically, with the ability to change them by pressing left/right.Other than the items menu, all of them are fully functional. I like the achievements menu in particular.Anoth…

  • Developer Diary #1 - January 3, 2026 - 3 January 2026

Hello everyone! I'm MicalPixel, the solo developer of May and the Amazing Bouquet ("MATAB")!This is the first of what I hope will be regular updates on the game's progress in 2026, in a longer format than sites like Bluesky or Mastodon can handle.I also wanted to share the game's wishlist numbers so far! 🙂SummaryTL;DR Lots happened in 2025. Goal is to have a playable demo in 2026.After 3 months of having a Steam store page, game is currently at 139 wishlists!2025 in ReviewTo recap, development started on May 1, 2024.2024 was an alpha/experimentation period. I had to figure out what the game would be about. I had to learn a game engine. And everything in between.Graphics were placeholders. Here's the *final* (yes, final!) screenshot I took of the game in 2024 (December 1).And here's the first screenshot from 2025 (January 2). So, a full month with no screenshots. But a major visual upgr…
