• Motives - Devlog 03 "Goal Met" - 1 September 2026

  Writing on Arc One has finished. Here's what I got done since the last devlog:Wrote 9 ChaptersBy setting weekly writing goals, even at my notoriously slow pace I managed to finish writing the rest of Arc One. There are eight more Arcs after this, so it will probably be quite a long development journey. However, this will be the last time I work on only one Arc at a time — my plan is to start working on Arcs in pairs after the development of Arc One is done, starting with Arcs 2 & 3. The final word count is roughly 25k words.Next up is the sprites, and I'll be working on those in addition to completing a game in one month for the Spooktober game jam, so September will be very busy!Until next time!— LockedOn.

• Motives - Devlog 02 "Into Reality" - 3 August 2026

  Writing on Motives continues. Here's what I got done since the last devlog:Wrote 2 ChaptersComposed two music tracksThe reason it took most of the month to just write a few chapters is that the prologue is pretty long and quite complicated. You'll see why when you play it. ;)However, the chapters will not be that long going forward. Motives is going back to the shorter, snappy, snackable chapter lengths of MTDC for the most part. Despite not getting many chapters written yet, it's still very exciting to have actual written chapters of Motives after all this time. It's obviously a game I've spent many years thinking about, and it's taking its first steps into reality.Until next time!— LockedOn.

• Motives - Devlog 01 "New Plans" - 1 August 2026

  As I mentioned in my 15 Year Anniversary post, there are 9 Arcs planned for Motives. Though I've spent most of the past few months working on things like the Prison of Lies translation and recovering from the development of , I was also working a bit on Motives. Here's what I have done so far:Outlined Arc OneDesigned two charactersComposed one music trackSet up the engine workflow in Unity with a simple testJust a reminder that the "Sprites" tracker in my progress tracker here counts how many characters have been completed — so even though I designed two characters, they won't be "complete" until they are rigged and animated. ;)Based on my experience with Canada Files, I know that it will likely take 1-2 months to write. Writing is the most important part, so I want to make sure it's not rushed and delivers a great start to the game.Until next time!— LockedOn.

• The Mastermind Awaits - 8 July 2026

  Motives: The Ultimate Problem has now entered production. For now, here's another little preview.A dangerous new mastermind awaits in Australia.Given the new challenges that will come with creating Motives, it's hard to estimate how long it will take to complete. My current outline plans for 9 "Arcs". You can think of these Arcs as like the Files from The Canada Files — self-contained in a way, but part of the larger narrative. The number of Arcs may change as I begin writing, it all depends on how the game progresses. I'm still considering how to structure releases — whether it makes sense to release Arcs one by one, or perhaps two or three at a time. Either way, due to the complexity and scale of the project, there won't be anything released until 2027 at the earliest.

• Introducing Detective Cassidy Quiet - 19 June 2026

  Introducing Detective Cassidy Quiet, a finalist of the Australian detective competition. Her method is "Stealth", solving crimes without anyone even noticing her investigations. When the culprit feels a tap on their shoulder, they know they've been caught.As many have guessed, Motives jumps ahead one year after the events of Methods to the next detective competition. Time is running out, as the ultimate mystery spirals out of control, and it will be up to the Winner's Square to solve it.
