The Surge's new expansion, The Good, the Bad, and the Augmented, will be released on October 2. Developer Deck13 is taking the sci-fi action-RPG to the old frontier where you'll have to survive the "deadly test chambers" of mad scientist Dr. Rischbieter. These chambers are set up in an abandoned Quality Assurance lab that was once used to train the deadly technology of mega corporation CREO. The kooky doc must be a massive John Wayne fan as since he's move into the labs he's installed experiments based on "a twisted Wild West TV show." The expansion's teaser trailer shows a desolate western town where you'll have a tense standoff with what looks like a robot prospector - it's wearing a cowboy hat. The mad doctor’s training rooms are accessible through several access points spread over the environments of the base game. The sci-fi Soulslike previously went for a Walk in the Park to chop robot limbs off animatronic bunnies in a malfunctioning theme park. Now, its next expansion, The Good, the Bad, and the Augmented , is visiting the basement laboratory of a mad doctor who has themed his entire facility after the Wild West. But why would he do this? A sequel is on the way for The Surge , Deck13’s so-so sci-fi Souslike from 2017. The Surge 2 is its name, and broadly trying to expand and improve the open-world action-RPG is its game. The first laid solid, if unremarkable, foundations of cutting robots and mechs to pieces so hopefully a sequel can build upon those nicely. Our Adam is at the event where publishers Focus Home today announced the game, and I imagine he’ll have more to tell us soon, but for now here’s word that yup, it’s coming. (more…)
