As promised, we're back with a substantial update on Act III, along with a brand-new piece of original artwork featuring the series' protagonists, by the artist Fabiana Fiengo.Let's be honest: as you can probably imagine given the development timeline, this has been the most challenging project we've ever worked on. The fact that we're still here, however, shows just how committed we are to seeing it through. - ACT I & II NOW SUPPORTED ON STEAM DECK - 5 January 2026
With today's update, which also introduces a new launcher, it is now possible to play Acts I and II on Steam Deck.Following the many reports received from users, we have temporarily disabled access to the HD version due to crash issues that are currently under investigation.In the meantime, the Steam Deck version should be stable and fully playable.If you encounter any issues or unexpected behavior, please report them through our support channels to help us further improve the experience.NOTE: The HD version is still available (along with its associated save files) by manually enabling the beta directly from your Steam Library. IMPORTANT NOTICEabout bugs & crashesWe continue to receive reports of apparently random and non-reproducible crashes affecting, in particular, the HD versions of Acts I and II of Shadows on the Vatican. Over time, we have released several updates in an attempt to resolve these issues; they, however, do not appear to have solved the problems for good.Unfortunately, the titles were developed using a game engine (the Wintermute Engine) that is no longer maintained. Despite our efforts, we have not yet been able to identify a technical solution capable of fully resolving the problem.We therefore recommend that anyone who still wishes to play these episodes save their progress frequently (preferably using multiple slots) and, should a crash occur, reload a previous save. We know that many of you are interested in the "health status" of Shadows on the Vatican. We can tell you that the production of Act III is proceeding, with lots of news that we can't wait to share with you. Meanwhile, as testament that the series is alive and well, we're about to publish NIGHTINGALE (release date: July 27), an interactive short story set in the SotV universe (recounting events that occurred two years before Act I). The adventure goes deep into certain aspects of the series and, above all, provides some glimpses into what we are going to explore further in Act III and IV.
