Alas, it's 2020 and every game that someone, somewhere holds a strange love for is being brought back from the dead. Ziggurat Interactive has now confirmed that its updated 'Terminal Cut' versions of BloodRayne and BloodRayne 2 will land November 20 on GOG and Steam . For those not in the know, BloodRayne and its sequel are third-person action- horror games that follow the eponymous half-vampire on her globetrotting quest to slay some Nazis and uncover the truth behind her vampire heritage. Remember BloodRayne? Terminal Reality's early-2000s third-person shooter series was lying dormant ever since 2011 spin-off side-scroller BloodRayne: Betrayal flopped. But a company has bought the rights to the series and announced plans to bring BloodRayne back. Ziggurat Interactive is a new retro game publisher that has bought the rights to multiple game licenses from Majesco Entertainment, including Advent Rising, Raze's Hell, Flip's Twisted World, and BloodRayne. Ziggurat said it's now working with Terminal Reality to update the PC versions of the BloodRayne games "to improve compatibility and provide various enhancements". Believe it or not, you can actually buy this terrifying "replica" of the arm blade from BloodRayne . I say "replica" because it doesn't look much like the one from the series, not because it doesn't look like it could cut my face off. We're not here for the blade itself, though. Maybe it's bad timing or just bad luck. But there's a growing list of cancelled 3DS games. That's not good. On the list of canned 3DS games, there's My Garden , which was supposed to be a 3DS launch title. There's also Saints Row: Drive-By , also apparently canned. Four Hudson games for the 3DS were canned , including Omega Five , Kororinpa: Marble Mania , Bonk , and Bomberman . However, these cancellations could be due to the current situation at Hudson. BloodRayne: The Shroud wasn't canned outright, but it's development is currently on hold . Also, DJ Hero 3 hasn't been officially cancelled, but it seems like this game is going to fall by the wayside. Blame the flagging popularity of music games for that! Now that I've gotten past the shock of the initial reveal and the awe of the first trailer , I'm done referring to BloodRayne: Betrayal as a game that's trying to be Castlevania . With each new screenshot I find myself wishing there was a Castlevania that looked this good. The screens don't do the game justice, but here they are nonetheless. Developer Way Forward are quickly establishing themselves as masters of 2D gaming, establishing a fluidity of motion in games like this and A Boy and His Blob like we've never seen before. Someone get these folks a Castlevania license. I'd settle for some sexy Alucard on BloodRayne fan art. No no, that's the wrong Alucard . Screw it, I'll just wait until the game comes out in August and use my imagination.

They're emphasizing blood over sex appeal. Lots of blood. And just a smidge of that sexiness. In fact, the developers told me, when they showed me the game at E3, that BloodRayne's idle animation is the main sexy thing they put in the game. When BloodRayne: Betrayal was announced so close to April 1 , we met the reveal with a healthy dose of scepticism. A 3D brawler turned into a 2D platformer? Seemed a little weird, since it normally works the other way around. But here it is, in all its 2D, cel-shaded glory. A comment on the clip's YouTube page says "looks like castalvania now i hated blood ryane so this can only be an improvement", which must surely sum up most people's thoughts on the matter. It'll be out on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this summer.

Following up on 2007's BloodRayne II: Deliverance, BloodRayne: The Third Reich, which was originally titled BloodRayne: Warhammer , pits Rayne (Natassia Malthe) against Nazis out to make Hitler immortal. The trailer below might be NSFW. The first BloodRayne film was released in 2005 and starred Kristanna Loken as Rayne, as well as Oscar-winner Ben Kingsley and Michael Madsen of Reservoir Dogs fame. This isn't the only World War II film Boll is working on. He recently finished Auschwitz . According to Boll, "I made the movie because there is not one movie made what shows the Holocaust really was — a killing factory." Besides BloodRayne and Auschwitz, Boll has yet another flick with Nazis, making a trilogy of sorts. It's called "Bluberella", a word play on blubber and Barbarella .
