- Demo Update: Aim up & Down + AI Director debut - 15 September 2026
Hi there, folks! Paulo here, bringing the updates on the Demo! There are tons of little things that we changed or fixed, but I want to focus this post on these:Weapon Variety We’ve listened to feedback and have been working hard to increase the variety and improve the game feel of the weapons. We believe that when a weapon makes you think differently to engage with an enemy or level, it is doing its job. So now you can aim up and down with weapons like the bow and the boomerang! We also reworked Shango’s Axes to be a hold-and-release type of mechanic, and if you time it right and release in the sweet spot, you will 100% crit. Pretty sweet! Pssst! Quick tip for you reading this: the game is not teaching this yet, but hold Right Shoulder button to stand still and aim around! We are working on new weapons, with new submechanics, so stay tuned for further updates! AI Director One of the gre…

- TALAKA's Closed Beta is wrapping up! - 31 July 2026
Hello, everyone! We’ve reached the end of Talaka’s Beta Test period, and we want to thank you with all our hearts for playing and sending feedback throughout this process. What’s going to happen: 🔑 Starting NOW, it will no longer be possible to claim new keys. 🔐 The Steam beta keys will be revoked by August 3rd and will stop working from that moment on. 🎮 This means access to the test build will be closed, but we’ll give an extra period, where you’ll have this weekend to play and fill out the feedback form. However, if you’re interested in continuing to chat about TALAKA, or follow its development in real-time, or get priority access to news, join the PotatoKid Discord. It's where we'll post the freshest updates about the game. It’s been a bit quiet there because we were busy with the Closed Beta development, and we focused on Acclaim’s server during this period, but we’re going to shak…
- Mid-Beta Update - 23 July 2026
Hi there folks! Potato Kid team here, bringing you a freshly baked new Talaka build just out of the oven! This build contains dozens of fixes, changes and improvements based on the first week of Beta testing. Thank you so much to our dear beta testers for making this possible! Here is the change log of what’s in Build 0.8.4.26:1.ImprovementsCrouch & Crouchstrike!!!Talaka can now crouch to stay away from some of those projectiles! And bonus: she can perform a crouch strike to repel pesky folks getting too close, like that little fiery snake!Getting Hit & FlowChanged Talaka’s reaction, physics, and consequences when she takes Body Damage from enemies (collisions with the enemy’s body). Now she won’t be stopped on her tracks when colliding with enemies, but will still take damage. This is designed to keep the game flow faster and offer more freedom of movement overall in combat. Please not…
- 8 Fun Facts based on 5 Days of Talaka Beta data - 21 July 2026
Hi there folks! Paulo here with a new type of post, hope you enjoy it! Before we opened up the game for a closed beta test with 200+ participants, we at Potato Kid decided this would be a great opportunity to get some telemetry data and learn more about what’s going on in the runs from an objective, data-centric perspective, as well as gathering the subjective feedback we are collecting on Discord and with the survey. If you have never heard of telemetry, no sweat: “Telemetry is the automated collection and transmission of data and measurements from distributed or remote sources to a central system”, says IBM here. We designed and implemented lots of fun little triggers and can now share data based on 5 days of gameplay by our dear testers (from 16/july to 20/july)! Now on to the fun part: the fun facts! 4 brave players already reached the end of the Beta! On 11 occasions Talaka made it…
- TALAKA's Closed Beta is Live! - 16 July 2026
Hey everyone, Potato Kid here again! \Today's the day! Our first two biomes are live and ready to be broken by all of you. If you already said hi in the Beta Discord, you'll get your key today! Haven't requested access yet? Head to the #talaka-beta-request channel on our Discord and drop a message; we'll hook you up! → \Quick heads-up: the controller is your best friend right now for the smoothest experience. Keyboard support just landed too, but it's fresh out of the oven and still experimental, so expect some quirks if you go that route. And please share everything you go through, good and bad, with us! Every run matters. Every ridiculous death, every "how was I supposed to know that would kill me," every fight that made you go "okay THAT was awesome" — tell us about it in the beta channel. We're reading every word! And yeah, this is an unfinished game. Rough edges, weird balance, the…
- TALAKA's Closed Beta is looking for Players! - 8 July 2026
Hey everyone,Potato Kid here, the team behind Talaka!! Here's the honest truth: feedback from players is the only way we'll be able to make the game truly great. We've been heads-down in development for a long time now, and at a certain point, you stop seeing your own game clearly — everything starts to feel "fine" because you're too close to it. Fresh eyes are the only fix for that. So we need your eyes! We're also roguelite players ourselves, so we know that balance is what can make or break a game like Talaka. We want real data, real deaths, real "that run was bullshit" moments and "holy hell this is awesome" fights — early, mid, and late into a run — so we can actually fix what's broken and double down on what's working. From July 8–16, You can request access to the Closed Beta. Just head to the #talaka-beta-request channel on the Discord linked below and drop a message — we'll get…

- We Are Potato Kid, and this is Talaka! - 10 September 2025
Hello world! We’re Potato Kid—a brand-new indie game studio, and we’re thrilled to introduce our debut title: Talaka. It’s great to meet you! We’re a small team pouring our hearts into crafting a game that’s unique, memorable, and genuinely fun—for you, the player who’s going to dive into it.Who We AreThough Potato Kid is new, we’re not exactly rookies. We’ve been making games for over 13 years under other studios and brands. For the past six, we’ve focused on premium console and PC titles, working with publishers and clients on work for hire projects we’re proud to have delivered—on time and on budget. But somewhere along the way, the joy of making games... slipped away.Deadlines got tighter. Approvals got harder. Creative freedom shrank. We found ourselves buried in meetings, certifications, team scaling, and stakeholder juggling—drifting further from the games themselves with each passi…
