Steam Summer Sale Starts June 25If you are reading this on June 24, and you do not have your copy of Fortified Space yet, make sure to wait for the Steam Summer Sale to start, as I will be putting the game on discount!In-Game NewsDid you know you can read news articles aboard your ship? After every mission, you can walk over to the flashing tablet on the table and read what the public is saying about the mission you just finished. I thought this would be a cool little feature that shows you how your actions fit within the broader universe of the game. Today's Regular Update includes improvements to the appearance of the news articles, and also adds the ability to scroll back and read previous articles. This way, you can properly bask in the success of past missions and won't miss out if you forgot to check the news.Deconstruction Bug FixAdditionally, this update includes a fix for a pla…
- Fortified Space Earns Spot In "20 Best Tower Defense Games of 2026" - Akurat.co - 1 June 2026
Article Link: https://jateng.akurat.co/lifestyle/858503/20-game-tower-defense-terbaik-2026-dari-bloons-hingga-dungeon-warfare-wajib-coba Akurat.co, a prominent Indonesian news outlet, has ranked Fortified Space as #9 on its list of 20 Best Tower Defense Games of 2026! From what I can tell in translations, the author calls it a “unique hybrid” that “combines arcade space combat with planetside tower defense.” Thank you to Akurat.co for featuring Fortified Space alongside some heavyweights in the tower defense genre. I'm really excited to hear that folks keep finding the space sim and tower defense hybrid aspect of Fortified Space so unique. I didn't plan on making it a key selling point of the game; I just thought it would be really cool to get that continuous space-to-ground feeling. I love when spaceships actually feel like vehicles that take you places, and in this case, it's bringing…
- The Combat Simulation Update - Regular Update v0.1.5 - 1 May 2026
The Naval Combat Simulation The UEF Naval Academy has built a new Naval Combat Simulation to enhance the skills of Navy starship crews during this crucial phase of the Interplanetary War. Any captains wishing to practice their flying and space combat fundamentals are invited to attend. This update adds a naval combat simulation which is accessible via the Tutorial button on the main menu. It will walk you through basic flight controls before spawning enemy ships for you to practice fighting against. One key feature of this simulation is the ability to change the Difficulty in the middle of the fight. This will help you decide, in real time, which difficulty level might be the best suited to your preferences. If the missiles are coming too fast, play Relaxed difficulty. If the combat is too easy and clunky, see how Impossible difficulty feels. It's a completely different experience! The n…
- Demo Players Get An Update Too! - 24 April 2026
The free demo will always be available for anyone who just wants to play a quick base building mission without the commitment of a full version purchase. This week, I’ve updated the demo build to match the full version’s v0.1.4. The last time the demo was updated was September 2025, so there are going to be quite a few improvements coming for demo players. Some of the changes included in this demo update include:From the Space Combat Update (v0.1.1):Enemy ships maneuver around and have improved behaviors.Enemy ships use a new weapon: the laser cannon. Watch out for this one!Railgun range is now limited.Camera can zoom out much more when in space.Allied ships are more competent.Your crew will notify you of shield health %. From the Fleet Mission Optimization Update (v0.1.2):Technical changes to reduce lag during the fleet battle (limited to 60 seconds in the demo). From the Endless Mode U…
- The Difficulty Options Update - Patch v0.1.4 - 16 April 2026
I don't know why I didn't just include normal difficulty options at launch! Those of you who have been playing the game since release (thank you!) may recall that I originally had a difficulty slider, allowing players to choose between 0% and 500% difficulty. I don't know what I was thinking. Those percentages mean nothing to someone who is trying to decide what difficulty to best play at.With this update, I've finally implemented four levels of difficulty options to match a variety of playstyles and skill levels. Each difficulty level assigns a different speed to enemy space weapons and starts planet enemies off with more or less health. The difficulty options are:Relaxed: Missiles fly slowly and ground enemies fold as easily as paper. Relax and enjoy the ride.Standard: Focus, skill, and a strategic mindset will carry you through the day.Elite: For veterans seeking a challenge. Missile…
- The Endless Mode Update - Regular Update v0.1.3 - 13 April 2026
A new update for Fortified Space is now available! The Endless Mode Update (v0.1.3) adds new features designed to make base building missions much more replayable. I'm happy to introduce the all-new Endless Mode and an improved Restart function.Endless ModeThe Endless Mode toggle button will now appear as a reward after you successfully finish each particular planet mission. Switching on Endless Mode will activate unlimited enemies that will attack you and your base nonstop. When activated, they no longer come in waves; there are no pauses and no end until you decide to toggle Endless Mode off again. With this new mode, you can keep returning to each planet mission to see how long your base can survive and how large you can expand it under this relentless assault. You can also use it to increase your career kill count and to enjoy the ASMR of your base's turrets pummeling enemies.Restar…
- Nightsail Game Studios: The Story of the Logo - 12 April 2026
I hope you all are having a great time playing Fortified Space and watching it improve with each passing week. As I put the finishing touches on yet another update, I wanted to take a moment to talk about the philosophy behind Nightsail Game Studios and how that led to the unique studio logo that now adorns the game, the trailer, my social media, and various parts of this Steam page. This logo, which was handcrafted by brilliant designers Alexis Paneda and Gian Paneda, perfectly captures the feeling that I hoped to breathe into the soul of each game made by Nightsail Game Studios. The OriginI am a solo developer who originally founded Nightsail Game Studios because I was so frustrated from searching for games that I decided to make my own. I had no professional background in anything related to game development, but I decided to learn everything from scratch and use those skills to make…
- The Fleet Battle Optimization Update - Patch v0.1.2 - 9 April 2026
This minor update is also a direct response to player feedback! I heard that the fleet battle missions can cause performance issues on some machines, so I spent some time optimizing them as best as I could. On my Acer Nitro 5, I managed to get a whopping 105 FPS during those updated missions, so I really hope that these changes are good enough to get you all playing. If it is still not enough, let me know and I can try to think of other solutions. For example, I could build in a skip option that triggers if your framerates drop below a certain point. So, if you were lagging during the fleet missions, this update is for you! Thank you for providing feedback and for helping Fortified Space become a better game. Detailed Optimization NotesIf FPS drops below 45, the bloom effects on the point-defense turret bullets automatically switch off. If FPS drops below 45, the pathfinding cells of all…
- The Space Combat Update - Regular Update v0.1.1 - 4 April 2026
I'm excited to announce the first-ever update for Fortified Space! This minor update comes courtesy of player feedback. You bought the game, you played it through, and you shared your thoughts through various channels. So far, it sounds like you all really enjoyed the planet missions and exploring your ship, but felt that space combat could use a little more spice. I hear you, and I've added some fun new dynamics as part of this update. Let me know what you think of the changes, and if you have any suggestions, send me a message with those ideas as well. This was a perfect example of why I wanted to release in Early Access, so thank you all for sharing your thoughts and for being part of the game's development. If I think of or hear more improvements to space combat, I will try to keep adding them. I am particularly interested in what you all think of the difficulty of space missions wi…
- Fortified Space Is Now Available In Early Access! - 28 March 2026
I am proud to present the first Early Access build of Fortified Space, now available for purchase. Thank you to all of you who reached out across multiple platforms to provide feedback and encouragement throughout the development process so far. I am only a solo developer, and this is my first game, so things like that matter a lot. I think I truly only got this far because, somehow, this little game of mine actually gathered a fan base. I hope you have fun firing railgun slugs into alien ships and watching your turrets shred enemies on the ground. Why Early Access? I have too many ideas for this game. If I waited to add them all before release, Fortified Space would never see the light of day! I wanted to release it as Early Access now so that you all can experience for yourselves what I am trying to do and what the game's identity has become. I also wanted to hear all the great ideas…
- Mission Preview: Assault on Expelan Space (Fleet Battle) - 21 March 2026
LoreThe Unified Earth Forces Navy has finally fought its way to the enemy's home solar system, but cannot proceed any closer to the enemy homeworld. A strange shield generator, positioned in open space near the ocean moon of Expelan, is creating a field that is physically stopping our ships. Surrounding the shield generator is a massive assembly of enemy ships in what appears to be their home fleet. This might be their last stand in space, and they will fight hard. The UEF Cruiser Corinth is equipped with nuclear warheads that we hope can destroy the shield generator. While the rest of our fleet engages theirs, escort the Corinth as it rushes through the fighting and tries to get within firing range of the shield generator. A successful nuclear attack by Corinth would allow our forces to move on Expelan, and, subsequently, the enemy homeworld of Marastab. Join the escort and ensure that…
- Fortified Space in the News: Kotaku (Español) - 18 March 2026
Article Link: Un viaje entre planetas y batallas orbitales: el híbrido estratégico que propone Fortified SpaceKotaku, one of the largest gaming news sites in the industry, recently published an article about Fortified Space in the Spanish-language version of its site! Sadly, I don't understand Spanish, but here are some of the translated excerpts that I really liked, courtesy of Google Translate.“A new indie project seeks to recapture the essence of the strategy games that dominated the internet years ago. Space combat, base building, and exploration within a spaceship are blended in a game that attempts to combine nostalgia with modern mechanics.”“Fortified Space offers a unique blend within the strategy genre. The game alternates between intense space battles and surface missions where the objective changes completely…this change of scenery is one of the game's most interesting ideas.…
- NOW AVAILABLE: Fortified Space Original Soundtrack - 13 March 2026
With just two weeks left until the Early Access launch of Fortified Space, I've decided to release the original soundtrack for you all to enjoy in the meantime. It will be held at a 40% discount until the game releases, ensuring that if you do decide to buy the soundtrack now, it will truly be at the lowest price offered. It's low enough now that it will beat any bundle deals I may add it to in the future.I've been thinking long and hard about how to talk about music in a platform designed for games. Why do people buy game soundtracks at all? I thought back to my personal experiences being moved by music in a game. I think if I were to put it in words, it would have been because gaming moments themselves can be so emotional that the music essentially cements it in memory. We feel a lot when playing games, even if we don't notice it. We can feel triumph, frustration, calm, solitude, exci…
- Updated Trailer and Tutorials Now Available! - 8 March 2026
New Gameplay Trailer ReleasedThe trailer is an incremental update of the previous one, and it showcases a few graphical updates and some of the new missions I've talked about this month. This will probably be the trailer that will be up during the Early Access release on March 27, so I hope it really captures the essence of the game. Enjoy! New Tutorials Now AvailableThe tutorials, on the other hand, are brand new. They come in the form of quick, no-commentary videos that are meant to provide instant guidance to demo players and a sneak peek to everyone else. If you were curious about the specific gameplay mechanics included in Fortified Space, the tutorials can be an easy way to take a quick look. And by quick, I mean quick. The shortest video, which is about composting, is 26 seconds. Soundtrack Coming March 13, 2026The soundtrack is coming out on March 13, two weeks before the game's…
- Mission Preview: Londrea (Ice Planet) - 27 February 2026
LoreWelcome to the ice planet Londrea, a cold, snowy, inhospitable planet completely devoid of life. Unified Earth Forces intelligence believes that beneath the unforgiving surface of the planet is an underground network of factories producing the enemy's warships. While your armor contains life-support systems that keep you warm and alive, traveling through the snow and ice will be extremely difficult on foot. We've authorized the use of a Tracked Utility Vehicle to help you get around. Gain a foothold on this planet so our troops can go hunting for enemy factories.Gameplay“Get in, loser!” This planet's unique twist is centered around driving the Tracked Utility Vehicle, a type of specialized truck that will be essential for getting around in the snow. Your walk speed on Londrea is significantly slower than normal; so slow, in fact, that enemies can easily catch up to you and damage yo…
- Mission Preview: Parassium (Forest Planet) - 22 February 2026
LoreWelcome to the forest planet Parassium, a verdant planet covered in trees and lakes. Interspersed across the planet's surface are highly unusual structures that appear to pulse electricity into pools of water. Based on the appearance of these structures and their locations, Unified Earth Forces intelligence believes that they are hunting traps meant as a food source for enemy forces. Whether this is a primary food source for their homeworld, or just one they are using to supply their warriors during constant attacks on our Solar System, remains unknown. Either way, Parassium holds vital strategic importance and we must secure a foothold.GameplayLakes and TreesFor this planet, I wanted to add challenging new twists that fit the theme of difficulties you'd face fighting in a forest: decreased mobility and decreased visibility. To that end, I added lakes and trees that might influence…

Thank You to FansI never thought I'd make a demo so popular that strangers would clamor for the game's release for months! But that is exactly what has happened. Together, we've honed this demo into a charming little experience. I'm glad the game was able to find its community. Since so many of you have already told me that the gameplay mechanics are fun, I took that as permission to gradually start improving the art instead. You can now make out terrain and other details. The desert planet has a more varied environment once you land. There are now rock f…
- Demo Update for September 15, 2025 - 16 September 2025
The Fortified Space demo is reaching a really good spot. The positive feedback from players continues to roll in, and it is keeping me energized heading into Steam Next Fest. Don't forget to give this game a wishlist if you haven't already! This round of updates mostly focuses on making the game more visually appealing. Some of the improvements include: Bloom and glow effects have been added to human and alien starships, allowing engines to smolder and flames to illuminate. Alien ships now have a bright red outer ring. Railgun shots burn brightly for the split second they are visible. Your ship is bathed in light as it comes out of warp.Ship point-defense turrets no longer fire dull streams of yellow shells; they now shoot glowing white shells that kind of look like stars. When in orbit around a planet, there are sunlight effects to show the proximity to a star. The Mission Select console…
