  I'm happy to report that the game will be released on 11 August at 12 noon GMT (well, BST to be precise).This has been a long, long road (not as long as GTA VI's, of course, but y'know) so it'll be great to see the game fully live on Steam.STEAM MACHINE UPDATE:I'm now the proud owner of the new Steam Machine. It's a great piece of kit. Yes, too expensive, but great nonetheless. And yes, The Comeback King works on the Steam Machine! It works really well, in fact. • Steam June Next Fest - 13 June 2026

  The June 2026 Steam Next Fest kicks off on Monday 15 June and The Comeback King will be battling it out with all the other fantastic demos.So welcome to the game if you've found it during the Festival. I really appreciate all comments and match reports so please free to contact me at Subjunctive Software or leave a comment here.The latest version of the demo includes some balancing tweaks and QoL improvements.In some associated (and very exciting) news, I can announce that the Original Soundtrack is now available as a vinyl LP! You can also listen on Spotify, Apple Music, all those apps but I mean, a vinyl LP! Come on. :D

  I've just dropped a big update to the demo for The Comeback King. This is a significant version because it opens up the demo much more.Changes in this release:Removed all demo limitations apart from the 5 match limit! This means that gyms, all boxer characters and all entrance music tracks are now available in the demo!Added rampant 1980s inflation.Improved some screen designs.Added Promotional Gifts.Added option to view Live Stats during matches. This is also very significant as it changes the game in quite a fundamental way.   After taking the decision to pull out of the February Next Fest and push the release date back to Q3, I've been hard at work bringing the game up to a higher standard. Many interesting features that were languishing on the "Nice Idea" pile have been dusted off and added in to the game; I've started replacing all of the music - and many of the sound effects - with original compositions and recordings, and the whole game's been debugged and polished to within an inch of its life.The updated demo includes most of the new features and is available now!PopularityThe rules around gaining and losing Popularity Stars have been overhauled. Boxers can no longer take stars from less popular opponents.There are new animations for losing or gaining a star.If you throw in the towel, the opponent boxer will gain a star from your boxer. • New timescales but big improvements - 4 February 2026

  Big news today.I've decided to pull out of the February Steam Next Fest and push the release date back to Q3 2026. Apologies if you're keen to get your hands on the full game but honestly, it'll be worth the wait!I took this decision for a few reasons:1) MUSIC. The game really benefits from thematic 80s music and in fact there are 10 different tracks you can choose as your boxer's entrance music. The problem I have is that the library music I've been using could easily cause reviewers and streamers to get hit with copyright strikes, and nobody wants that. I started off using music from Epidemic Sound, got spooked by their licensing model, paid for a bunch of Gamedev Market music under their Pro Licence but, on reflection, didn't trust that either. So I was left with 2 choices: pay a composer for original music or write my own. As I'm an experienced recording musician anyway I've decided…

  SImple answer: YesLonger answer: The game runs smoothly on the 'Deck because there's a Linux build specifically for it. Text can be small but I think it's still all legible.
