  • Main branch updated to v3.2K - 21 September 2026

The default version moves to v3.2K today. That is everything from the beta branch - the Summer Rebuild, v3.1E to v3.2J -plus a few fixes made during the beta run. What changed between v3.1E and v3.2J: the full notes are in the Summer Rebuild post - The Summer Rebuild: v3.1E to v3.2J. Nearly every screen was rebuilt, so it is worth a read if you have not launched in a while. What is new in v3.2K: open the in-game Changelog from the start menu's Community panel. The game will also offer it on your first launch after the update. Known issues: the in-game Known Issues screen, also on the start menu's Community panel, lists anything I already know about, so check it before reporting. If you switched to the beta branch to try the rebuild early, you can switch back: right-click GuitarSesh in your Steam library, Properties, Game Versions & Betas, and pick Default Public Version. Beta and defaul…

  • The Summer Rebuild: v3.1E to v3.2J, on the beta branch now - 14 September 2026

The beta branch moves from v3.1E to v3.2J today - 31 versions between August 23rd and September 12th. The default version follows after some testing on beta; there will be a short note here when it does. To try it now: right-click GuitarSesh in your Steam library, Properties, then Game Versions & Betas, and pick beta from the dropdown - Steam swaps the build over, and picking Default Public Version again returns you to the current release. Most of it is visible the moment you launch: nearly every screen in the game was rebuilt this summer, and then every tutorial was re-aimed at the new screens. The big changes are first; the full notes are grouped by area below. In five lines: The finish line is a slot the note drops into. Fully inside = Perfect, within 24 ms, on every note. Accuracy, streak and a Perfect / Good / Early / Late word update live while you play. Calibration measures every…

  • Beta Update: Rebuilt Pick Detection, New Song Complete Screen & Goals - 29 July 2026

The beta branch jumps from v3.0DD to v3.0T - sixteen versions of work from July 13th to today. Below are the big ones, then everything else grouped by area. Repeated notes now need a real pick This is the biggest change in the update, and it changes what your accuracy means. Until now, any in-tune note counted while its window was open. A string left ringing from an earlier pick would keep registering the notes that came after it - so a single stroke could score a whole run of repeats. Chugs, tremolo picking and pedal tones were all scoring themselves. A note now needs a fresh pick when its pitch repeats from what you just played. Pick it and it counts exactly as it always did. Let one stroke ring through the run and only the note you actually picked counts. What has not changed: Hammer-ons, pull-offs and slides still count without a pick - those are sounded with the fretting hand. Anyt…

  • Introducing the Public Beta Branch — Try Test Builds Early - 3 July 2026

I've set up a public beta branch for GuitarSesh where I'll stage builds for testing before they go live for everyone. How it works The beta branch always runs either the same build as the default version or a newer one that's being tested. Opting in is low-commitment — you can switch back to the default version anytime. When beta is ahead, you're previewing the next build before it goes live; when it matches, there's nothing new staged yet. Check the changelog to see whether beta is currently ahead of the default version. Seeing what's in a build Each build ships with its own version number. Once you're on the main menu, look at the top-right corner and click Changelog — it lists each build's version and what changed, newest at the top. How I'll post updates I don't plan to post a Steam announcement for every build. For day-to-day changes on both the beta and default branches, the in-ga…

  • GuitarSesh Is Out Now in Early Access — 10% Off Launch Week - 28 June 2026

The wait is over. GuitarSesh is here. GuitarSesh is out now in Early Access. After almost five years of programming, three years of playtesting with a guitar in hand, and endless marathons these past months to reach this checkpoint, I'm sharing the build publicly for the first time. I built it because I wanted a guitar game you play on a real guitar — plug in, load a song, and the game listens to what you actually play and tells you how you're doing, note by note. That's still the whole point of it. There's more to dig into once you're in, and I'm excited for you to find it. Launch week To kick things off, GuitarSesh is 10% off for the first week. Plug in and play. I'll be listening. — Kyle

  • GuitarSesh Launches This Weekend - 23 June 2026

Hey all,Big news — Valve has approved GuitarSesh for release, and I'm aiming to launch this weekend.I've been building this for five years. That whole time, I've been the only person who could actually play it — and I'm done being the only one holding it. It's time to put it in your hands.Between now and launch I'm doing one final hands-on pass, guitar in hand, working through the backlog of fixes and features I've been polishing since the original June 12 date shifted. I've tested everything I could without an instrument; this last pass is the real-guitar run it deserves before I ship. After five years, I'm genuinely excited — and a little disbelieving — to finally share all of it. A lot of what made it in is covered in my recent devlogs, and the rest you'll get to play very soon. Thanks for wishlisting and for waiting. See you this weekend.— Kyle

  • Release Delayed — Status Update - 5 May 2026

Hello everyone,Thank you for the kind enthusiasm you've shared with me for this passion project. I want to be upfront about where things stand. When I announced June 12 as the release date, I genuinely thought I had everything ready. On the technical side, the game is good to go. What I didn't anticipate was a legal requirement that came up during Valve's build review process — one that needs an attorney's involvement to resolve. That's not something I budgeted for, financially or time-wise.I still fully intend to release GuitarSesh publicly. The legal hurdle is something I'm actively working through, and I'd rather take the time to handle it properly than rush it. In the meantime, I'm using this delay to polish the game and add features I had planned for post-launch — work the original timeline didn't leave room for. The release candidate keeps getting better while I sort the legal piec…

  • SongVisualizer is now GuitarSesh + Early Access Date Announced - 4 March 2026

Hey everyone,I've got two pieces of news to share today. The Name ChangeSongVisualizer is now GuitarSesh. As I got deeper into preparing for launch, it became clear the original name didn't hold up as a brand — it was too generic and described what the software does rather than giving it a real identity. GuitarSesh better captures what this project is really about: sitting down with your guitar and getting into a session. The game itself hasn't changed — same pitch detection, same career mode, same everything. Just a stronger name.Early Access Release Date: June 12, 2026GuitarSesh will be available in Early Access on June 12, 2026. I want to make sure the launch is solid, and this timeline gives me the space to do it right. If you haven't already, hit that wishlist button so you get notified when it drops. Thanks for following along — more updates coming soon. — Kyle

  • Performance Update - Smooth Streaming is Here - 30 November 2025

Hey everyone!I've been heads-down for the past two months making some serious improvements, and wanted to share what's new as we gear up for Early Access.🎮New Features & Polish There are a ton of changes across Career Mode, the file browser, Measure Master practice analysis, Set-list management, Stats screens, and more. New options, redesigned layouts, quality-of-life improvements throughout. I have it all documented and you'll discover these as you play - but that's not what I want to focus on here.⚡Performance Overhaul - Finally, Smooth Streaming! This is where my time went. Almost all of it. I had to stop playing the game entirely and spend two months doing nothing but profiling, testing, and optimizing frame-by-frame. Measuring milliseconds. Tracking down micro-stutters. Writing custom code when standard solutions weren't precise enough. It was painstaking, tedious work - but absol…

  • Steam Store Page now Public! - 29 September 2025

Hi everyone! The Steam store page for SongVisualizer is now live!I've been working hard behind the scenes to optimize the software across different hardware configurations. Windows and Mac builds are ready. Linux support isn't currently planned since I don't have hardware to test with, though I'm open to exploring it if there's strong community interest. What's next:Limited private alpha testing with select users starting soonSteam approval process (required for public release)Continued refinement based on real-world usageSongVisualizer is currently at Version 2.0A Alpha. Since starting this project in October 2021, it's evolved into a comprehensive tool for tracking and visualizing guitar practice sessions. I've personally used it to log 1,837 song plays across 164 sessions from May 2023 to present, with recordings available on SoundCloud and YouTube (as documented by SongCreatorVision.c…
