- 1.4.2 Hotfix - 19 September 2026
Fixed another softlock in the Collections tutorial. Opening an era from the journal's era index could bounce you back to the index with no way to progress. Thanks to everyone who sent a report.
- Update 1.4.0: New Soundtrack and a Cautionary Tale for Ukrainian Game Devs - 2 September 2026
A new soundtrack Version 1.4.0 replaces the music across the whole game. All three music styles you can pick in Options now play new tracks. Time Pressure An original theme commissioned for AE from composer Wazir. Pitch shifting works exactly as before, so the music tightens as your dig clock runs down. Upbeat and Lyric Both styles are built from new track sets, ten tracks for Upbeat and seven for Lyric, so the music you dig to is completely different in either mode. You can switch styles at any time in Options, under Music Style. P.S. A cautionary tale for fellow developers Humble Bundle has been a great source of assets for us for years now. It is a great way to gather a nice collection for prototyping and jams, and to fill the less important asset roles in an actual game. I personally bought every asset bundle they offered, and Archeological Emergency, the original game jam prototype…
- 1.3.0 - Sandstone update - 27 August 2026
Version 1.3.0 Last weekend we were happy to observe Daskalos playing our game on stream. We took his feedback and ran with it: this update brings the most important changes from it, while other ideas found their place in our internal roadmap. Sandstone, not fossils It was pointed out to us (by multiple people, actually) that using fossils as a soft obstacle was unwise. Fossils are rare guests at real dig sites, and when one does turn up, it gets carefully preserved, not smashed through with a pickaxe. So the bone piles blocking your dig are gone. In their place: Sandstone. Break it with the Pickaxe, exactly as before. Unlike fossils, sandstone deserves everything it gets. Better archaeology The tutorial dig site now layers its eras in proper stratigraphic order: Islamic on the surface, Medieval in the middle, Roman at the bottom. Several dig sites got their era lineups revised for the s…
- 1.2.0 - Stability update - 14 July 2026
This is an overall polish update. We went through all systems and polished all rough edges and possible weak spots.
- 1.1.0 - Post-Fest update - 27 June 2026
This is a Post-Fest update: we went back through the festival coverage and addressed all the issues we saw players run into, along with new audio options, gentler onboarding for new diggers, and per-profile leaderboard control. Audio & music New Music Style setting: choose Time Pressure (default), Upbeat, or Lyric. Each style has its own set of tracks and varies between sessions, and you can switch mid-dig. The "ticking clock" pitch-shift is now optional (Time Pressure only), with a Max Pitch slider. Quieter, more consistent default volumes and a calmer mix. New-player guidance New diggers now get gentle, on-the-job tips and friendlier early dig sites that ease off as you find your footing. Experienced players are unaffected. Leaderboards & profiles You can now opt a profile out of the public leaderboards (Options > Accessibility). Opting out removes that profile's scores from the publi…
- 1.0.2 Hotfix - 19 June 2026
Thanks to player ЖВОТНЕ for flagging a journal soft-lock in the Collections & Eras tutorial — now fixed. Fixes: Fixed a soft-lock that could trap the journal during the Collections & Eras tutorial. Minor stability fixes.
- 1.0.1 Hotfix - 17 June 2026
We were informed that the native Linux build had compatibility issues on some Linux distributions. Thanks, MemLeakD, for the heads-up — our error-reporting tooling missed that one completely, because the game was dying before it could even give us a hint :DThat's now resolved. If you still run into issues on Linux, try reinstalling — and if that doesn't help, please let us know.Along with that urgent fix, we pushed some smaller fixes and improvements based on feedback and coverage:Fixes:The "Ownership could not be verified" jump-scare dialog should no longer appear unless there's a real ownership problem. We've made the Steam API pipeline more robust, so short-term connection hiccups and delayed initialization no longer throw us off the trail.Fixed the game icon on Linux.Improvements:Players are now given a set of faster (Gold-tier) tools during the tutorials, so they move along more qu…
- AE: Archeological Expedition is in Steam Next Fest! - 12 June 2026
We're happy to announce that AE: Archeological Expedition is taking part in Steam Next Fest, June 15–22! The demo is already live — dig in right now, or any time during the fest. If you enjoy it, add AE to your wishlist so you'll know when the full game is out.
- The Archaeological Expedition demo is now live - 1 June 2026
The demo is out now. Become an archaeologist and dig up history one piece at a time. You choose where to dig and how — fast and rough, or slow and careful — and that choice decides whether a fragile find survives. Every artifact is real, from common potsherds to once-in-a-lifetime treasures, each with the story of what it is and the era it came from. Recover all 160 across ten eras and eighteen sites, upgrade your tools, and keep digging as the storms roll in. In the demo 3 historical eras — Roman, Medieval, Islamic (10 in the full game) 2 dig sites — Petra and Bukhara (18 in the full game) Brush, Shovel and Pickaxe, Bronze and Silver tiers (Gold tier and the Bulldozer in the full game) 28 in-game achievements to earn (in the full game they become Steam Achievements, along with 33 more base-game ones) The whole core loop: artifact condition (Perfect to Destroyed), rarity (Common to Myth…
