  • Soulfused devlog #5 - 1 August 2026

Update: The new demo is now live! Before diving into the game, I'd like to tell you a little about what I've been up to lately, why I've been so quiet, and why there hasn't really been any progress on the game.Babies and airplanes Summer is well underway, and so far it’s been a busy one! Me, my partner, and the newest addition to the family spent most of it visiting family. (In case you haven't heard, I became a dad last December!) Given that we’re both expats from different countries, that meant a lot of traveling. But before we could even set foot out the door, we needed to sort out all the relevant paperwork and whatnot. It’s certainly been a bureaucratic adventure to ensure that everything is properly registered in all three countries involved. It's been a mess of paperwork and embassy visits, but we're starting to see the end of that tunnel. At least we're far enough into it that we…

  • Soulfused devlog #4 - 22 April 2026

I've been talking about Soulfused as being feature complete for a while now and I stand by that. Still, I've found myself more often than not working on new features, polishing, tweaking and bug fixes rather than the more immediate work that remains: Bringing the story over from various flow charts and into the game. In this devlog I thought we'd take a look at my setup, the work that remains, and my plans to wrap it all up.What do you mean procrastinating? I'm not procrastinating. Well, maybe just a little...Flows and chartsWhen I first started mapping out the story for Soulfused I opened a new Miro board. I've used Miro many times in the past and I've gotten used to working with it so it felt like a natural place to begin. Miro is a sort of online whiteboard app which has many different tools for planning and mapping. It is intended to be a cooperative tool but it works just as well s…

  • Soulfused devlog #3 - 11 March 2026

I've been having computer issues the last couple of weeks, leaving me unable to spend much time on the game. Instead, I've been spending what time I have for it on locating and applying to various indie events and showcases around the internet. I figured that with a release on the horizon it could be good to get a little visibility. Most of these events all take some sort of stance on generative AI, the most common one being against it. While I have not myself used these kinds of tools for the development of Soulfused, the topic has caused a bit of a moral uncertainty within me for two reasons. For the sake of full transparency (And maybe to get a conversation going) I've decided to dedicate one of these devlogs to the topic. No pictures this time around. This wall of text is mostly me reflecting and sharing my thoughts around AI and the game.Warning: This devlog will contain minor story…

  • Soulfused devlog #2 - 13 February 2026

Let's try to build up some momentum with these devlogs! I have a few ideas for topics to write about and I kinda like the idea of revisiting some parts of the project to talk about them.In this one I want to talk about the biggest and most complicated area of the game: The input parser. A fair warning: This might get a bit technical. Before we dive into it though, let's talk about the decisions that lead there. Why no mouse? That's one of the main questions I get when I demo my game at events, and honestly I don't really have an answer beyond "For the fun of it". Designing a game that doesn't utilize the mouse at all has definitely been a challenge. Historically, there are many games from the earlier days of computer gaming which are purely text based both in input and output, so the idea is not new at all. Still, after the commercialization of the computer mouse in the late 70s / early 80…

  • Soulfused devlog #1 - 30 January 2026

A lot has happened since Next Fest in October. If you've been following me or the game you might be wondering why things have been so quiet. This devlog is here to answer that and to let you know that the game is still moving forward.Progress and ParenthoodThe short answer to the radio silence: I became a dad in December. It's been a wild ride with little time for work (or sleep) these last couple of months, but it's also been a wonderful start to a new and exciting chapter in our life journey.Of course this also means that the progress on the game has slowed down quite a bit. I had originally hoped to finish things up before the baby arrived but, like many deadlines, this one also flew past while making a funny sound. That said, I'm now looking at a Q1/Q2 2026 release. I'll share an exact date as soon as I have one. Stay tuned! Now, let's talk about the game!Where it comes fromI've been…
