About this game
Uncover the secrets of a shifting, procedural nightmare hidden inside a collection of mysterious VHS tapes. Document your expedience, and solve a multi-layered meta-narrative , SURVIVE THE RECORDINGS You are watching unauthorized, pirated recordings of " The Place ", recorded directly over unassuming home and stock videos. As the tape plays, you must step into the shoes of the subjects who explored it . Procedural Exploration: Navigate a shifting labyrinth of rooms. No two tapes are exactly alike. Leave a Trail: Use limited emergency lights as breadcrumbs to track your way deep into the facility—because you will have to find your way back out in the pitch black. Document Anomalies: Observe your surroundings and catalog recurring anomalies to understand the rules of this space. Synergizing Entities: You are not alone. Entities roam the dark, actively messing with your perception and working together to hunt you down. FROM THE 90'S The game utilizes authentic VHS visual degradation and audio distortion . Unpredictable random events can occur at any moment during the recording, ensuring the atmosphere remains thick with dread from the moment you hit "Play." A MYSTERY BEYOND THE SCREEN Who recorded these tapes? Who collected this "evidence"? And who sold this mystery box to you? The narrative exists in three distinct layers: the subjects in the footage, the unseen archivist, and you , the actual player sitting at your desk. The game does not stop when you close it. Real-World Investigation: Mysterious folders, files, and communications will appear on your actual computer desktop, as you become an unsuspecting victim receiving something that will change their lives. Decrypt the Truth: Search the in-game environments for passwords to unlock real encrypted archives on your PC. Knowledge is Survival: The files you decrypt contain crucial lore and vital behavioral information about the entities that you can use to survive your next dive into the tapes.
