🌍 Epic Historical Setting: Shadowy Warfare on the Frontier Spring 1876. Turmoil grips China’s northwest border. Zuo Zongtang marches west with a coffin, determined to reclaim Xinjiang. Xingxingxia Pass— the sole gateway between Gansu and Xinjiang—serves as a critical hub for Qing military supplies and a frontline for Yaqub Beg’s spies to infiltrate intelligence. Blood-red wind-eroded cliffs flank the pass, while half-foot-deep ruts in the valley floor bear witness to centuries of migration and warfare. Braving -10°C winds in tattered cotton-padded uniforms, Qing soldiers stand guard. You are Zhao Wu, a 20-year-old recruit who enlisted to raise medical funds for his father, injured by a landlord. Pass Garrison Training (Chapters 1-5): Vigilant Defender of the Frontier Core Missions : Daily inspect travel documents, verify caravan numbers and cargo against "household permits," and identify counterfeit Persian seals forged by Yaqub Beg’s forces. Transport water buckets to barracks at dawn and dusk, record water usage—choose to "strictly search for water theft" to gain superiors’ favor or "tacitly allow grain exchange" to obtain caravan supplies. Stand guard at the beacon tower at night, documenting Qing signals ("one fire for peace, three fires for enemy attack")—missing records result in reprimand.
