Lovecraft and European history. The gods of Talamhur are dead, copper here is more valued than gold, the tenebrous Foul Ones are roaming around during eclipses too regular to be normal… While rapiers, pikes and gunpowder are still ruling on the battlefields and fierce battlemages keep scourging their enemies with fire and blight, city-states in the far north have already begun harnessing the power of steam. People of Talamhur are thrilled by the upcoming Arrival of unknown invaders from beyond the sea, prophesied by many to be the end of days.
