- New Update 1.0.7: A lot of improvements and fixes - 10 September 2026
Hey everyone! We're still here, still working on the game, still fixing what you tell us to fix. Reviews, complaints, all of it. This update came out of that. Added - Right click adds an item to your handful now, and there's a toggle for it in the controls. The rest of the update is mostly about the orders themselves. - Six new orders from Hana, with construction parts. Sort them by color, or by shape, sticks and blocks and stubs. - Five new orders from Amelie, with cookies. By shape, by dough, by filling, by flavor. - A save confirmation when the game saves. Before that you only saw one on your way out. Improved We reworked fifty-four of the existing orders. - When a box refuses an item, the item bumps into the rim and slides down instead of snapping back. - Orders have more items in them. A box that held around thirty now holds forty or fifty. - A box takes a wider mix of an item's va…
- Update 1.0.6: Order balance - 27 August 2026
Orders used to arrive with a good part of the work already done. This one is about fixing that, plus two other things that decide what lands on your desk. What changed - An order doesn't show up half sorted anymore. It could happen that more than half the things were already sitting in tidy piles by the right boxes, sometimes almost the whole desk came like that, and there was nothing left for you to do. Now a much smaller part arrives ready. - Orders repeat less. Two in a row could hold pretty much the same things. A familiar mix gets turned down more often now, even when it's a different client and you're sorting by something else. - Photo orders come out even. When a row was short, the extra things piled onto one kind, five of these and one of that. Now they're spread evenly and there's a cap on how many show up, so the rows are the same length and the edge of the sheet isn't ragged.…
- Update 1.0.5: Controls, and settings for them - 26 August 2026
Sorry about the controls in 1.0.4. We changed the way things stick together, and building piles got harder instead of easier. Most of that is rolled back now, and the parts people disagree about have moved into the settings, so you can set them the way your hands like. From here on we'll be more careful with control changes, and when there's a call to make, it goes into the settings rather than getting decided for you. Fixed Things you put down next to each other stick together again the way they did before 1.0.4. Short flicks count too, not only slow drags. Throwing a handful at a box no longer scatters half of it into the corner. A pile in the path takes the item in properly now, and items land with a bit of spread instead of stacking on one spot. Setting values kept the previous language after a mid-game language switch. Added A Controls tab in the settings, with three things you can…
- Update 1.0.4: Piles and fixes - 25 August 2026
Added - A Recommended settings button in the graphics tab. It matches vertical sync to your monitor and clears the manual frame cap. Fixed - Piles formed when you didn't ask for them. Putting an item back where you took it no longer makes one, and a pile won't swallow things buried under other stuff. - The game ran as many frames as your monitor could take, and laptops ran hot for a game about sorting buttons. On fast displays it syncs to every other frame now. - All Four Windows and Click didn't show up when you earned them. - English wrote the temperature as "+30°". Each language sets its own form now. - The day screen kept the font of whatever language it loaded first. Changed - Piles no longer catch things you throw past them. A pile used to slow down anything flying over it, and in practice it swallowed throws meant for a box. Throws go where you aim them now. If Steam hasn't picke…
- Update 1.0.3: FPS limit and fixes - 24 August 2026
Added - An FPS Limit in the graphics settings. Unlimited, 30, 60 or 120. A player wrote that their laptop was overheating and there was nothing in the game to turn the load down, so now there is. Picking a limit switches vertical sync off, the two don't work together. Fixed - Picking up a big handful played the sound of every item in it at once. It's quieter now and it doesn't drop out. - The pause menu opened underneath the memory book and the order card. Escape was pressed, the menu was open, and nothing in it could be clicked. - The client's note sat over the boxes, and nothing told you a click puts it away. Now it slides into the corner on its own after you put three things in a box. The clip stays there, click it and the note comes back. - If you play with "Spread Out the Pile Automatically" on, the replay started from the original piles instead of the desk you actually worked on.…
- Update 1.0.2: More fixes - 23 August 2026
Fixed - Throwing things went stiff in the last patch. Items barely moved and landed short of where you threw them. That's back to how it was, sorry, that one was on us. - The game ignored your system language and always started in English. It now picks up your language on the first launch, the way it was supposed to from the start. - Progress could stall if you finished an order before reading the letter that came with it. The next order wouldn't unlock and you had to leave the slot and come back in. - Some cases where clicking a puzzle piece twice left you with a duplicate of it, and the order wouldn't finish. This came up on Steam Deck too, with two pieces sitting on top of each other. - Some cases where pieces from an interrupted assembly got stuck instead of going back into the box. - "The Bureau Waited for You" didn't unlock if you played every day. It was waiting a full 24 hours i…
- Update 1.0.1: Fixes and QoL - 22 August 2026
Added - A setting to stop things from sticking together into a handful. If you'd rather carry them one at a time, it's in Settings under General. It's on by default, so nothing changes unless you turn it off. Fixed - Ultrawide screens (21:9 and wider) cut off the interface. Client notes lost their text, the name and the seal went missing, and letters came out broken. - Puzzle orders could get stuck for good. Two pieces wouldn't join, or a piece vanished from the box, and the order couldn't be completed. You no longer need to go back to the workshop and start another one, the order sorts itself out. - Japanese, Korean and Chinese text showed up as empty squares on the day transition screen. - The Continue button was hidden every time a new client showed up. Now it only hides on your very first order, where watching the replay is the point. - Checkboxes in Settings didn't show whether the…
- The Sorting Bureau is out. It started with a strange idea one morning - 21 August 2026
The Sorting Bureau is out The demo went up in May, everything after it went into the full version. Today it's out, 30% off for the first two weeks. One morning in the fall of 2025 I told Maria I had a strange idea. I said it carefully, because we had a game in progress at the time and we had already dropped plenty of ideas before that, and I didn't want to be the person who drops another one. It went something like this. Imagine a huge desk covered in things, all sorts of small things, and you put them away in little boxes. Her eyes lit up. She said she'd want to play that, and she'd want to make it. Then we spent two or three months just thinking, without really starting. Who the clients would be, how to present the sorting, how to make it mean something. At first it was somewhere in Europe, a big round window with a canal outside it, boats, a small cozy town. At some point I suggested…
- The Sorting Bureau launches August 21: piles, fewer drags, and a lot of fixes - 15 August 2026
The full version is out on August 21 Launch is this Friday. If you only played the demo, you played a three month old build. It went up in May, and everything since then went into the full version. Here is what is different. The hand: piles instead of hundreds of drags The demo asked a lot of your hand: hundreds of small drags, one item at a time. That is the first thing we changed. Piles. Put a few items down next to each other and they settle into a pile, and from then on the pile is picked up and carried as one thing. Nothing sticks to your cursor on its own, you gather the pile yourself. Boxes accept a whole pile. Drop a pile over the right box and all of it goes in together, instead of one item going in and the rest scattering around it. No more overshooting. Throw an item towards a pile and the inertia is damped, so it lands closer to where you aimed. A Spread Out button in the pa…
- Demo Update 0.8.1 — the cat now reacts when you click on him - 13 June 2026
Quiet rain outside, a calm corner of Tokyo, a cat asleep on the windowsill. He used to just doze there - now, if you disturb him, he gives an annoyed little ear twitch and a nervous flick of the tail. He's not thrilled about being woken up. What's new: 🐱 The cat is alive. He sleeps and breathes, and reacts with mild displeasure when you click him - twitching ears, flicking tail, a soft purr. The sleepy "Z"s above him pop if you stir him awake. ☕ A mug on the table. You can nudge it around, and the steam above it gently disperses as it moves. ⏯️ Replay controls. Pause, 2x speed, and skip - rewatch how you sorted everything at your own pace. 🌧️ Quieter with the window closed. Rain and city noise soften when the window is shut. Fixes: An order you've picked up is no longer lost when you exit to the main menu. Color-sorting orders now fill out more completely. P.S. It's still a demo, and…
- Demo Big Update 0.8.0 + Devlog - 2 June 2026
Hey everyone. Thanks for spending time at the Bureau. Here's what's new. More orders to sort through The regulars came back with a lot of new requests, so the desk should feel fresh again instead of showing you the same piles. Nagisa especially: she brought in a whole batch of seashell orders, sorting by color, by size, by shape. The shells on the banner up top are hers, actually. City sounds, now actually from Tokyo We rebuilt the city ambience around real recordings made in Tokyo. The demo starts in late spring and slides into summer by the end, so you can hear the city wake up a little more, and the cicadas come in. It's a small thing, but it's one I wanted to get right. Steam Next Fest — June 15 We're taking part in Steam Next Fest starting June 15. The demo will be there, and we're planning to update it a few more times during the fest, so it's worth checking back. If you enjoyed y…
- Demo Update 0.7.3: Fixes - 14 May 2026
A handful of quiet fixes to make the desk feel a bit more settled. Items stay on the desk. Bumping a piece near the edge no longer pushes it off the visible area. Puzzle pieces play nicer. Placing a fragment no longer nudges its neighbors out of position while you're assembling. Localization polish across many languages. Notes, character voices, and small wording fixes. Thank you for sorting with us.
