  • Your Feedback Is Shaping Obscura - Playtest Update 0.8.0a - 9 September 2026

Playtest Update 0.8.0aYour Feedback Is Shaping ObscuraSince our first longer playtest sessions, we've done much more than simply fix bugs.Several parts of Obscura: A Sleep Worth Dying For have been substantially reworked based on player feedback. We're not only listening to what testers tell us — we're also watching where players hesitate, misunderstand something or encounter a mechanic that technically works, but doesn't feel quite right yet. That has turned into a surprisingly substantial playtest update.Major ChangesNew Save & Campaign System Obscura now features multiple Save Slots, dedicated difficulty selection, and additional control guidance when starting a campaign. The Save Slot, difficulty and confirmation menus have also received a major visual overhaul.Tighter Controls & More Precise Movement Obscura's stopping distance has been reduced, making movement feel more responsive an…

  • The Dream Has Changed — Major Playtest Update 0.7.8a - 27 August 2026

The dream has changed. For the past few weeks, I’ve been tearing into Obscura: A Sleep Worth Dying For piece by piece. Some systems had been with the game almost since the beginning. Others worked — but simply didn’t feel as good as they should. So instead of putting another coat of paint on them…I rebuilt them. And after many very late nights, a ridiculous amount of testing, tweaking, breaking things and fixing them again, the new Playtest update is finally here. Combat now hits harder. The Sai system has been heavily expanded and polished, with distinct elemental identities, stronger visual feedback and a new Precision Targeting system that lets you deliberately hunt down targets instead of simply throwing and hoping for the best.Ice. Fire. Poison. Electricity. Irony. They’re no longer just different colours attached to the same weapon. They have jobs. And enemies are going to notice. And yes……

  • The Nightmare Stirs Again – Development Update - 18 August 2026

The Nightmare Stirs AgainThings have been a little quiet around Obscura: A Sleep Worth Dying For for a while.Over the past few weeks, however, I've returned to the nightmare with my full attention – and instead of simply adding more rooms and enemies, I decided to focus first on something that affects the entire game:How Obscura feels to play.Movement, collisions, traversal, and many of the small ways the world reacts to the player have been reworked. Much of this work happens beneath the surface, but these systems ultimately determine whether a jump feels right, a wall behaves reliably, or the world responds naturally to what the player is doing.Building a Stronger FoundationA major focus of the past few weeks has been physics and movement.Collisions have been made more robust, numerous edge cases have been addressed, and parts of the technical foundation have been restructured. In a p…

  • Development status - 7 July 2026

Development Update: Obscura is back in active developmentHello everyone,I want to share a short and honest update about Obscura: A Sleep Worth Dying For.Development has been much quieter over the last few months than I originally planned. There were several reasons for that: private responsibilities, a difficult family period, and work on other prototypes and projects. Looking back, I should have communicated earlier that Obscura had temporarily slowed down.I want to thank everyone who still kept an eye on the game, visited the Steam page, or followed the test version. The most important news is:Obscura is back in active development. My focus is now clearly back on bringing Obscura into a clean, playable, and presentable state. The next step is to carefully review the current test version: what already works well, what needs improvement, and which parts need more polish, better feedback,…
