  If you've booted up the mobile versions of Resident Evil 4 , 7 , or Village recently, and found you couldn't play without an internet connection, you're not the only one. It's pretty common for a lot of mobile titles to require an internet connection, particularly gacha games that'll be running checks to make sure you're not cheating, but it's rare for single-player games to need them. Except as spotted by some fans online, a recent update for Resident Evil 4, 7, and Village on iOS respectively all made it so that you need an internet connection when booting the game up. "Due to changes to the startup process, an internet connection is now required when starting this app," reads the update note for each game. A fresh entry in the series has been oficially confirmed to be in development, with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard 's director at the helm. Yep, between this and the original PC port of the first Resi having become easily accessible on PC for the first time in ages recently, fans of the the series about bad things trying to kill you and, er, large vampire women that you sort of want to be killed by have been eating good. During the showcase, Resi 7 director Koshi Nakanishi popped up to deliver the good news, simply declaring: "We're making a new Resident Evil game" during a pretty sick transition between a sunset and his face.   In case you missed it, Capcom casually revealed that the original Dead Rising's getting a remake yesterday . It's called Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, and your first chance to see anything about it beyond the inital teaser trailer will be at the summer Capcom Next showcase the publisher's just announced. While it's not the only game set to show up, it's fair to say the remaster will be the main event of this nice little broadcast, likely offering a chance for you to go 'eugh, Frank definitely looks weird now' or 'you know, I don't mind how Frank looks now' numerous times before it concludes. You'll be able to catch the summer 2024 edition of Capcom Next on July 1 at 3PM PT, which is 11PM BST and 6PM ET .   Capcom have unveiled the next generation of their in-house RE Engine, which came in alongside Resident Evil 7 in 2017 and has been used by a bunch of projects over the years, from the excellent Devil May Cry 5 to the forthcoming possibly-excellent Dragon's Dogma 2 . RE Engine's successor, the REX engine, is a response to three things - 1) RE Engine productions getting bigger in terms of assets, and more diverse in terms of genre, 2) RE Engine games being increasingly made by overseas developers who speak different languages, and 3) unflattering comparisons with various commercial tools, like Unreal Engine and Unity.
