- Demo Patch: 5.1 Audio Fix + Microphone Settings Improvements - 6 August 2026
Hey all,We've released a patch for the demo that addresses a failstate with the movie renderer where if you had a 5.1 audio output in Windows, the video rendering would get stuck on "Preparing to Render" forever. A big thank you to Phantimon from the Discord for investigating the issue and helping us get it fixed! Additionally, we've added a visual for the microphone output volume so you can more easily tell if you're set to a good volume, and improved how microphone boosting works. You may need to adjust your microphone volume in-game if you played an old version of the demo. Please let us know if you run into any issues either in the Steam forums or via our Discord: https://discord.gg/R3EjcHzYPNThanks again for playing the demo and supporting our game! With Love,Winston and Jeff\We are aware of an issue where the microphone volume visual indicator doesn't work in the main menu and are…
- An Update on our Release Plans - 31 July 2026
Hey everyone, We’re here with a quick update about our release plans. Initially we wanted to do our Early Access release in July 2026, however we have decided to cook a bit longer so we can expand our feature set, amount of movie scenes and add in some of the some of the requests and ideas from the community. We’re hugely grateful for everybody’s interest in the game, their feedback from playing the demo and the hilarious clips you’ve shared. We’re still seeking feedback on things you’d like to see in the full game, so please keep your feedback coming! We don’t have a new release date yet, but make sure to wishlist and follow Acting Out on Steam so you can know as soon as we’re ready to share more! With Love, Winston and Jeff
- Patch: Low Disk Space Warning - 23 July 2026
Hey all, We have just pushed an update that includes a pop-up warning if you are too low on disk space to record. This issue was sometimes causing videos to not render, resulting in Preparing forever or a black screen in the theatre. For now, we ask you set aside 2GB to give the game space for recording and rendering out movies. (Most movies require 0.3 - 1.0GB each, and are compressed afterwards) It will check when the game launches, when you change save drive in options and when you press G to Ready before filming a scene. Please let us know if you run into any issues with this new feature. Thanks to @RandomCactus from the Discord community for helping us identify the issue!\ The first version of this patch had a bug that stopped movie rendering files from being cleared up. Your movie folder (C:/ProgramData/ActingOutGame/VideoCaptures or your chosen drive) will have folders with .jpegs…
- Duskfall: New Movie Scene for a Limited Time! - 10 July 2026
Hi everyone! We have an exciting new scene that will be available for a limited time in the demo. If you are a fan of vampires and teen romance drama, or if you just want to prove how well you can deliver extremely emotional loud-breathing, then this is for you!Duskfall is a two-player scene where one is a vampire and the other is about to uncover his secret. How this plays out is completely up to you! Please enjoy, and we can't wait to see all your incredible performances!Jeff and Winston
- Demo Patch: Exporting Stability and Customise Saved Videos Drive - 2 July 2026
Hi everyone,We've received a few reports of rare instances where the movie fails to render and you're left with a blank screen in the theatre. We've fixed a few ways for this to happen, but it was still popping up occasionally. We're very sorry for the frustration this caused. We've since done a dive into the video renderer plugin's code, and I believe we've come up with a more reliable fix and are pushing an update to the demo now. A huge thanks to Dave from Powerhoof for helping to investigate and suggesting a fix! Additionally, some players were having the rendering fail due to restrictions on their C:/ drive that prevents the game from writing files to our default folder in C:/ProgramData/ActingOutGame. So we've also added the ability to select which drive the movies will save to. You can find it in the Options menu. We're also investigating an issue where players' voices go high pi…
- New Movie Scene: Backrooms Last Message - 29 June 2026
Hi everyone!Hope you're all ready to experience what it's like to be stuck in the backrooms...! We have just added a new single-player scene to the demo where you will record your final message after falling into this strange liminal space and being stuck there.Test your ability to channel genuine sadness and despair, as well as terror! We don't know what else might be lurking in these corridors... Can't wait to see all your performances! Please share them in our Discord or online, we would love to see them all! - Experimental Feature: Edit Scripts - 19 June 2026
Hey all,Thank you again so much for playing the demo and supporting our game. We've seen many requests for players being able to make their own scenes, or customise the experience. We have longer term ambitions to give you more control, but we wanted to try give you all something to play with in the meantime. With the latest demo update, when you open the menu in-game (Escape or F10), there is an option to "Edit Script", which will change the script to an editable text box. Press the M key to enable the mouse cursor, letting you click into the text box. You can then freely modify the text, and then when you want to share changes to all players, click the "Update Script" button. This is an experimental feature, so there may be issues and it's not guaranteed to stay in this form. It also only includes the English script to edit for now. If you'd like to access the PDFs to copy and paste as…
- Mid-Scene Character Switching Feature and More Languages Supported! - 17 June 2026
Exciting news!We have been collecting feedback from our wonderful community, and we have just implemented a new feature for a popular request! Now you will have the ability to switch characters while recording your movies! This will mean single players can try to execute multiple roles in a scene to complete recordings on their own! It will be very challenging to do so with the limited one-take movies, but we are very keen to see what you talented folks can all pull off!In addition to that, we have had some incredible volunteers in our Discord community volunteer translating support for everyone! Thanks to their amazing efforts, we now have properly translated scripts for:German (thanks Linokuni)Ukrainian (thanks Maxx_Light)Also by popular request we have added further experimental translation support through Google translate for Korean and Brazilian Portuguese!NOTES: It is currently onl…
- New Star Player Characters and More Languages Supported! - 8 June 2026
Hi everyone!Huge welcome and thanks to all our new players from all over the world. Our latest update makes all of the players literal stars before we choose characters for each scene. This new fun mascot replaces the default mannequin we were using temporarily, and we hope you enjoy how goofy and happy they look as much as we do!By popular request we are also adding another suite of languages for the scripts in the demo :)For this update, we now have experimental translation support through Google translate for French, Italian, German, Ukrainian, and Polish!NOTES: It is currently only the Scripts that are translated, not the full game UI. That will come later. For now, we will just test out translation with Google Translate, but we want to get proper translations done in the future. The timings for the scene will still follow the English script, so we can't guarantee that the translated…
- Additional Spanish and Chinese Script Languages Added to Demo! - 29 May 2026
Hi everyone!Big thanks to the new players that have been playing the demo. We are excited to add more languages to the scripts so we can include more and more people from all over the world! We have added more experimental translation support into the demo for Spanish and Chinese (simplified) and Chinese (traditional)! NOTES: It is currently only the Scripts that are translated, not the full game UI. That will come later. For now, we will just test out translation with Google Translate, but we want to get proper translations done in the future. The timings for the scene will still follow the English script, so we can't guarantee that the translated text will fit the timings when you are recording. The Host can select script language from the dropdown menu in the lobby. We have also done an update to the in-game HUD so that the emotes have icons, the script panel and recording panel are also…

Hello again! Exciting developments in progress. First of all, a huge thank you to players from Japan and Russia who have picked up the demo and wishlisted. We love you, you're the first groups to support us on a large scale. ːsteamhappyːAnd because of that, we're going to be fast tracking some experimental translation support into the demo! NOTES: Starting out, it will only be Scripts that will be translated, not the full game UI. That will come later. For now, we will just test out translation with Google Translate, but we want to get proper translations done in the future. The timings for the scene will still follow the English script, so we can't guarantee that the translated text will fit the timings when you are recording. The Host can select script language from the dropdown menu in the lobby. - In Development: Emote Icons - 14 May 2026
Hey everyone!Due to popular demand, we're gonna do icons for emotes! These are just examples, not final icons, but just testing to make sure it's possible. Earlier in development, I had thought it would be too complex and labour intensive to set up since we have so many different emotes, but after some research, we found a a nifty metadata feature with Unreal Engine that will make it less taxing for our small team of two. (Again, the emotes and names are just EXAMPLES, not the final ones. They will probably look like silhouettes of poses from the animation)Thanks all for the feedback, for playing and supporting our game! We are still quite unknown in a lot of the world, so please help us out by leaving a review on the demo and telling others about the game! With love,-Winston
- BONUS SCENE: EVERYONE GET IN THE CAR - 10 May 2026
Hey everybody,Thank you to everybody who has played our demo so far and given feedback! For no particular reason, we've added a BONUS scene to the demo! It's single player, but feel free to play with your friends for extra dramatic effect. Have fun! It's still early days and we want to hear from more of you, so please share thoughts on Discord, Steam forums or by leaving a review on the demo. Remember to tag us in your videos with #ActingOut, and tell your friends about the game so we can get word out there! Cheers,-Winston and Jeff
- FIXED: Video Saving Error - 7 May 2026
Hey all,FIXED! We have pushed a patch to the game that now saves videos to "C:/ProgramData/ActingOutGame", which bypasses issues with non-ASCII or Cyrillic character usernames breaking the video exporter. If you were having this issue before, please update the demo and try again. Sorry for the inconvenience for the initial issue, but thank you for your patience and supporting the game! A massive thank you to user MeQva for helping us find the issue! Cheers, -Winston and Jeff ______________________\We've had a few users reporting an issue where they black screen in the cinema, and leaving JPEG files and .wav in the output folder. We are still getting to the bottom of the issue, but we also need your help in identifying the cause. We have a temporary workaround fix and are working on patching the game. TheoryThe video exporting program may be failing when a user has Cyrillic or non-ASCII…
