- New game loop implemented. Demo next? - 15 September 2026
The latest Minutes to Meltdown overhaul is in and has created new ways to play the game.I was finally able to stitch together a new trailer and store page to capture the latest Minutes to meltdown updates. It takes a while as a solo dev but I'm getting there. Here's what's been added:Shift Game Loop + Power exportsThe game loop has been at the center of all these updates.I pivoted away from 10 minute standalone shifts and rebuilt the loop around 6 minute shifts that run consecutively until you lose. At the start of a shift, choose an export contract. The better you do with exporting power, the better your pay. Use this pay between shifts to purchase upgrades and helper bots to keep on top of the plant's demands. Before the next shift, choose a new export contract. These contracts have unique modifiers that offer power spikes, safety inspectors, and dodgy equipment with more to follow. Sa…
- Minutes to Meltdown - The Control System Update - 3 September 2026
Although quiet, I have been working away on Minutes to Meltdown. My time has been quite limited lately but I will hopefully resume regular updates and progress results shortly. I'll get straight to it.Power ExportsChoose an export contract at the start of each shift. The harder the contract, the better the rewards, but the bigger chance of failure. During the shift, maintain your power export through the newly added console controls to match the demand as closely as possible. Export too much and you're deemed inefficient and your rewards take a hit. Export too little and your employment is terminated.Your export amount is controlled at consoles which allow you to configure and adjust what the reactor outputs. If you successfully complete a shift, you take a new contract and carry on. If you fail the contract or the reactor melts down, that's game over.If you struggle to get the required…
- Halcyon Energy Has Opened Its Doors: Open Playtest - 21 July 2026
Halcyon Energy has removed all recruitment restrictions. There is no application, no screening, no waiting list. Request access on the Steam page and your clearance is granted.Shift window (Pacific Standard Time): Opens — Friday 24 July, 12:00am Closes — Sunday 26 July, 11:59pmEvery system flagged for repair before this playtest has been addressed. Balancing, UI, and the tutorial are all in place. The plant is as ready as it's going to be for this employment trial. This is the full game. Every fault, every cascade, fires and surge events included. It is best experienced with a crew of up to four, so bring colleagues. A shift attempted alone is possible. A shift attempted together is considerably better. On feedback:There is a Discord link on the main menu and on the Steam page. That's where I want your feedback, and I genuinely need it. This is a work in progress, and the point of a playt…
- Playtest window confirmed - 12 July 2026
PLAYTEST WINDOW CONFIRMEDHalcyon Energy is pleased to announce that recruitment for the open playtest is now imminent.Shift window (US Pacific): Opens — Friday 24 July, 12:00am Closes — Sunday 26 July, 11:59pmSince your last shift, conditions have deteriorated. Fires now spread. Plant-wide blackouts occur. Radiation backflows through open doors. Halcyon trusts you will adapt accordingly. The playtest will be the full game. Not a stripped slice. Every system, every fault, every cascade. The feedback I need depends on people experiencing the whole thing falling apart at once, and a trimmed build would give me trimmed feedback.Where development stands:Since the last update, the UI work is complete. Menus and player HUD are done (for now). The tutorial is also complete, which was the key milestone, because there are systems in this plant that genuinely need explaining before a technician is…
- Core game loop is complete. Demo incoming! - 28 June 2026
Hi Technicians,Halcyon Energy is pleased to announce an expansion to your workplace hazard portfolio, provided at no additional cost to you: fire.In addition to fires, new surge events have been introduced — plant-wide blackouts, radiation backflows, and total darkness. Halcyon trusts you will adapt accordingly.Where does development stand? The core game loop is complete. What's left is the work that turns a working game into a shippable one. Balancing, UI, and the tutorial. The tutorial is the key milestone, because it's what enables the demo: there are a few systems in the game that genuinely need explaining before players are dropped into the chaos. On the demo itself - it'll be the full game, available for a limited window, not a stripped-down slice. That's deliberate. The game isn't released yet, and the feedback I actually need depends on people experiencing the whole thing, cascadi…
- Facility redesign completed: New systems, new mechanics + a huge map overhaul - 24 May 2026
We've been quiet while we've been heads-down on a major update. A few screenshots of the new map are scattered throughout this post. Here's what's new.Game name changed from "Meltdown" to "Minutes to Meltdown" to avoid confusion with a game called Meltdown that released in May.The whole facility has been rebuilt around connected pipeline systems. Each major system: cooling, compressor, radiation scrubbing and electrical now have their own clusters and are made up of multiple rooms. The electrical system has been expanded into a more meaningful pipeline that includes switchboards, transformers and inverters. This gives rise to highly impactful and urgent faults that create catastrophic moments of plant wide failures.Cables and pipes now carry information about which systems they belong to and what they affect, which means when something breaks, the cascade has a more meaningful geographi…
