- New UFO Model, Reworked Planets & Smarter, Hungrier Aliens - 8 September 2026
👽 Alien AI OverhaulAliens now use an all-new imported UFO model with a pulsing bottom vent glow that speeds up as they get more aggressive — no more procedural placeholder ships.Fixed a spin/wobble bug that made saucers tumble oddly, and smoothed out jittery pitch/yaw so aliens fly with steady, believable motion.Aliens no longer funnel into a "get in front of the player" position or passively retreat — they'll engage and dodge from whatever angle they're actually approaching, keeping the pressure on.Reworked orbital swarm behavior into three distinct "electron-shell" orbits with their own speeds and planes, so alien formations feel less like a single spinning ring.Aliens going after treasure now put on a greedy final speed burst as they close in, and will break off from treasure runs entirely once they're aggressive enough to focus on you instead.Difficulty scaling has been deepened ac…
- Meet Jack — The Story Behind Mega Roids (Now In-Game) - 14 August 2026
Today's update adds an opening story crawl to Mega Roids, so now there's a reason you're out there blasting rocks. Meet Jack. — Jack's First Shift — Jack never expected ACME Space Mining Company to hire him. Who knows how many applicants he'd had to beat. Hundreds. Maybe thousands! Probably because everyone he asked said the pay was too good to be real. Oh, it was real all right: a small percentage of the mining profits! His first assignment sounded simple enough — enter an ACME Hyper-Toroidal Space Bubble (whatever that is), blast open the asteroids inside it, and collect their valuable cores. Once he meets the quota, ACME opens a portal on the edge of the Bubble to exit through, and then he continues to the planet's surface, descending into Qob Canyon for core extraction. The only worry was the ship. Jack had never actually flown a NESDA Mining Spacecraft 4000x before. Still, the flig…
- Display Fixes & Linux Support - 26 July 2026
Patch Notes 🖥️ Display Improvements Widescreen & Non-4:3 Display Support — The game now correctly letterboxes or pillarboxes on displays that aren't 4:3, preserving the intended aspect ratio instead of stretching. Viewport rect is now cached and only recalculated on resize, improving rendering performance. Fixed an issue where querying display pixel size immediately after entering fullscreen could return incorrect dimensions — the game now pumps SDL events first to ensure accurate output. Fixed an edge case where the logical presentation could cause stretching artifacts by switching to SDL_SetRenderLogicalPresentation. 🐧 Linux Support Linux/Debian builds are now officially supported! The game can be compiled and run on Linux via CMake. Bundled GLM headers are now used, removing a broken external dependency fetch. A Linux README has been added with build instructions. 🔧 Bug Fixes & Co…

- Rear-View Camera, Glass Break Death Screen & Gameplay Polish - 11 July 2026
What's New 🎥 Rear-View Camera The attitude indicator has been replaced with a live rear-view camera — a true 3D perspective view of what's behind you. Roid Blaster / Mega Roids: See nebulae, asteroids, aliens, missiles, and treasures rendered as lit 3D geometry behind your ship. Roid Run: A telephoto view of the canyon behind you with sky/ground gradient and perspective-correct walls. 💀 New Death Transition All three game modes now share a unified glass-break death screen — your view shatters when you die, followed by a flashing GAME OVER animation before the scoreboard. 🛡️ Roid Blaster: Spawn Protection You're now invulnerable for 3 seconds after spawning or respawning. A gold blinking overlay fades out as the protection window ends so you always know when you're exposed. Balance Changes Mega Roids: Shield triangles reduced from 4 hits to 3 hits to destroy — faster, more aggressive…

- Stage 3 Preview - 27 May 2026
Stage 3 Preview Stage 3 is the next big step for Mega Roids, and I wanted to share a quick look at what’s coming. We’re currently targeting June 14 for this update. The goal is to make the later run feel bigger, more intense, and more memorable from start to finish. What’s coming in Stage 3: A larger progression flow that pushes the run beyond the core asteroid combat A new canyon-style combat sequence that changes the pace and pressure A dedicated Mega Roids boss encounter with new attack patterns and a more dramatic finale Smoother transitions between major gameplay sections so the whole run feels more connected HUD and combat readability improvements to make the action clearer in the middle of the chaos A lot of the recent work has been about making the game feel like it keeps escalating. I want Stage 3 to feel like a real payoff — not just more enemies, but a stronger sense that the…

- Stage 3 Boss Fight - First Look - 13 May 2026
Stage 3 Boss Fight - First Look Here is a first look at the boss fight for Stage 3 in Mega Roids. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxFxigebXfM The goal with this fight is to push the chaos higher while keeping the action readable and satisfying in first-person. I want it to feel dangerous, fast, and a little overwhelming in the right way - like classic arcade pressure, but from inside the action. This is still a work in progress, and I am still tuning it. Looking for Feedback Does the boss feel readable at a glance? Does the fight feel exciting? Does it feel too chaotic, not chaotic enough, or about right? What would you tune first? Stage 3 launches June 14, 2026. More updates soon.
