- Game Update v6.1.0 - 19 August 2026
Generals and artillery will now interact more consistently with the troops under your command. A general left exposed will attempt to withdraw as opposing forces approach. Sharing a hex with a detached general or artillery battery no longer prevents infantry from changing formation. Artillery batteries now attach to infantry properly, and newly arrived generals keep their command abilities.

Every campaign, fought to a finish Every mission in the game has been reviewed and balanced. The handful that could stop a campaign in its tracks have been brought back into line, and the missions that put up almost no fight now give you a proper battle. The amphibious landing in Marshland Assault comes ashore as intended, so the fleet action plays the way it was designed. A tougher opponent The computer opponent has been considerably improved. It understands what each mission asks of it - what to hold, what to take, and when to press - and it plays to win. Rebuilt menus The Settings screens have been redesigned with the options laid out cleanly across General, Mouse, Keyboard and Display tabs.

- Civil War: Atlanta 1864 out now! - 14 August 2023
The latest instalment of our American Civil War game series, Civil War: Atlanta 1864, is now available on Steam! The new game consists of: 7 mission ‘Tutorial’ campaign, played as Union. 4 mission ‘Rebel Yell’ Campaign. Key events from May 9th – May 15th. 5 mission ‘Bayonets and Shells’ Campaign. Key events from May 27th – June 20th. 6 mission ‘Yankee Hurrah’ Campaign. Key events from June 20th – July 21st. 6 mission ‘The Battle of Atlanta’ Campaign. Key events from the battle of Atlanta. With the exception of the tutorial all missions can be played as either side.

We have added two new campaigns to the game. Arsenal an eight mission campaign and Chickamauga also an 8 mission campaign. You might also notice some small changes to the UI. At the moment we at HexWar are very busy updating all our hex engine games. So far we have updated Civil War 1861, 1862, 1863 and 1864, 1865 should be finished sometime next week. We would also like to say a big thank you to all our players out there for supporting a small indie company.

We’ve just released the latest update for Civil War: 1863! This patch includes 3 new multiplayer campaigns! (Hotseat multiplayer only; it’s nice to get comfy around the open computer screen with a loved one this time of year). New changes in this release also include new tooltips for the map overlay and an all-round general improvement to the UI.
