- Steam Next Fest - 26 May 2026
I am proud to announce that Diception will take part in the Steam Next Fest June 2026. The demo is available now and will not be updated before the fest is over (except if bugs were found). The demo version was tested on 3 operating systems and should be pretty stable. I am not planning to add any stuff anyway. The game itself is also feature complete for the release, the only things missing is a good balancing for the campaign (pretty rough so far). I am planning to release it in August 26 and will reach out to some Bloggers before to get some attention. If you have found any bug or have ideas for new features, feel free to get in touch with me: [email protected] Timeline15th of June: Steam Next Fest Bugfixing Optimizations3rd of August: Full Release Getting User Feedback, possible new features are Online Multiplayer Mods More campaign levels HighscoreMay the dice be with you
- Update 2.0.5 - 13 May 2026
2.0.5Map Styles refactored. Reduced to 3 as the random generator did not feel great for small maps. Now focused on some more distinctive ways. The demo is set to Random, so it should have a big impact there.Full Grid: All tiles filledContinents: Up to 4 continents in the cornersSimple: Some tiles removedRandom: Chooses any of the 3Statistics: More specific win ratesSo far it was calculated how many games you played and how many of that you have won. Good, but it is important to see how well you are doing against hard bots. (part of the full game) So differ between difficulties and also map sizes. The global percentage is still in the game, and additionally you can now see how well you are doing against each bot difficulty and how well on small, medium and big mapsThe stats are shown in the won/lost dialog and in the achievements section.Speed Up Dialog: This game is meant to be played f…
- Diception Demo - 6 May 2026
Hi folks, two important steps are made:1.) Steam approved the Demo of Diception. I am planning to release it within the next week, to have some time before the NEXT fest where Diception was also accepted2.) We had a fun local multiplayer session at my place with 4+ players (i modified the photo digitally for privacy reasons). Several mods were tested and the focus was to find out how the game feels with multiple experienced players. This test was the second of that kind. First time we did it with friends who do not know Dicewars/Kdice at all. Now we had the chance to focus on experienced players and how they like it. Result: It was a huge success. Friends loved it and we had some intense sessions. I was able to finetune some stuff live - thanks to ai coding :-). LikeImproved the visibility of the gamepad cursors for the active playerSimplified menu controls: One master gamepad which con…
- Chapter 1 completed - 19 April 2026
Over the last two weeks, I’ve been busy fixing bugs, polishing the Steam store page, and finishing Chapter 1 of the campaign. The campaign is structured into chapters, starting with a tutorial followed by Chapter 1, 2, and so on. There’s something really satisfying about completing levels one by one, so I think this is a great addition to the standard custom games. It also allows me to create specific scenarios that challenge you to show you’ve truly mastered the game mechanics! :-)Future PlansI’m planning for a maximum of 8 chapters in total. The release version will likely include up to 4 chapters, as I want to leave room for future updates, new mods, and perhaps special campaigns (like a WW2 setting). We’ll see how it goes!
- New animations, "Mods" and more - 30 March 2026
Hi folks, i am working heavily on the Graphics and also added Mods that i always dreamed of (Like changing some small aspects, but getting a totally different game). One thing i am trying is making attacks easier to see how this influences the playstyle. The second one is making different stacking mods like once when your territories are full, normally your reinforcements are saved in a "Stack". Once you have space again it gets filled up. So the new Mods are: "no stack", where all die are lost if the territories are full and even an "evil stack" that is hurting you by going from max die to 1 if a territory is selected for reinforcements that has maximum alread ;-). Lots of work, and i need more time for campaign levels. So i also delayed the game to the mid of the year. I am still planning to release a demo in the middle of april. We will seeExamples for new animations:New Attack Overl…
