- NGC-404 Visual Update and New Effects - 8 September 2026
Hello Sector Commanders,We have been working hard toward our Early Alpha release, and we are still improving NGC-404: Fractured Sector based on your feedback. This time, we want to show some of the latest visual changes and improvements we have been working on.The main focus of this update was presentation. We wanted the galaxy to feel more alive, combat to look more satisfying, and the map to be easier to read as you move between tactical and strategic gameplay.New Planets, Stars and BackgroundFirst, we completely replaced the old planet and star sprites.Planets and stars are now proceduraly generated when the galaxy is created. This means you should never see two of them looking exactly the same.We currently have nine different planet types, each with its own visual characteristics.Stars have also received a complete visual update, and we added a brand new space background to better su…
- NGC-404 The Great Economy Rework - 3 August 2026
Hello Sector Commanders,For the past four weeks, we have been rebuilding the entire economy of NGC-404: Fractured Sector. This has been one of the largest systemic changes we have worked on so far. The goal was simple: make the economy feel like something that actually exists inside the game world, not just a set of numbers moving in the background.Previously, trade was mostly abstract. Resources moved between planets through systems and calculations, but the player did not always feel that movement happening in the galaxy. That has changed.Resources now physically exist on planetary markets and must be transported by real ships. Every shipment can be delayed, intercepted, raided, or completely destroyed. Video Devlog:Physical TradePlanets now generate real shortages and surpluses. When one colony needs food, fuel, industrial components, or other resources, the economy can create a trade c…
- New trailer for NGC-404: Fractured Sector - 19 July 2026
Procedurally generated sector, real-time battles, trading resources, managing colonies. Additional ships can operate under hybrid AI orders, so the game can grow beyond the fleet you personally control.Since our previous trailer, we’ve reworked the combat presentation with new impact VFX, stronger explosions, camera shake, and moving weapon barrels.Trailer: We’d love to hear what you think about the new presentation and whether the trailer clearly communicates what kind of game we’re building.
- NGC-404 Ship Redesigns and Combat Feel Improvements - 10 July 2026
Hello Sector Commanders,This update is focused on something very important to us: making the game easier to read, better to look at, and more satisfying to play.Over the last few weeks, we received a lot of useful community feedback about our ships and combat presentation. We took that feedback seriously and went back to improve several visual parts of NGC-404: Fractured Sector.Reworked Ship DesignsWe have reworked our 2D ship models based on the comments and suggestions we received from the community. The goal was not to change the identity of the ships, but to make them cleaner, stronger, and easier to understand at a glance. The main improvements include:Clearer ship silhouettesBetter readability between ship classesLess repeated and copy-paste looking surface detailMore recognizable large visual featuresToned down lighting and shader intensityCleaner overall faction styleThese changes…

- NGC-404 Directional Shields, Ship Management and a New Name - 13 June 2026
Hello Sector Commanders,Before we dive into this update, we have some exciting news to share.NGC-404 Becomes NGC-404: Fractured SectorWe're pleased to announce a small rebrand. As development has progressed, we've felt that the original title, while unique, didn't fully communicate the setting and themes of the game to new players. To better reflect the universe we're building, NGC-404 is now officially:NGC-404: Fractured SectorThe new title preserves the original identity of the project while giving players a clearer idea of the fractured political landscape, competing factions, and conflicts that define the sector. The game itself remains the same. Only the name has changed.Directional ShieldsUntil now, shields worked as a single shared pool surrounding the entire ship. With this update, shields are divided into four directional faces:ForePortStarboardAftIncoming fire now impacts the shie…
- NGC-404 From One Health Bar to a Ship That Comes Apart - 31 May 2026
Hello Sector Commanders,This week we've been working on one of the biggest combat overhauls so far: replacing the old single HP bar system with a sectional damage model. The Old System: One NumberPreviously, every ship had a single health pool.A hit anywhere on the ship reduced that number. When it reached zero, the ship exploded. It was simple and reliable, but it also meant:A shot to the engines was no different from a shot to the noseShips fought at full efficiency until the moment they diedThe only feedback was a shrinking health barCombat worked, but ships felt more like health bars than physical objects. The New System: Seven Hull SectionsShips are now divided into seven separate hull sections:NosePort SideStarboard SideCoreEnginesRear PortRear StarboardEvery section has its own health pool, and where a shot lands now matters.Damage is applied to the section that was actually hit, al…

- NGC-404 Sound System, Death Animations & Plunder Mechanics - 2 April 2026
Hello Sector Commanders,Since last devblog we focused on improving overall immersion - enhancing sound and animations, and introducing a new planet raiding mechanic.Plunder SystemSpace stations are no longer destroyed outright when defeated. Instead, they become disabled, creating an opportunity for enemies to move in and plunder them. When a station is disabled, you can plunder the planet itself, extracting resources and stealing artifacts from selected buildings.Plundering allows you to:Steal valuable resources and artifactsDamage the planet’s infrastructureWeaken enemy economies without completely wiping them outThe station only acts as a gateway - the real impact is on the planet beneath it.Death AnimationShips no longer disappear instantly when destroyed.Instead, they go through a destruction sequence with explosions, fire, and debris breaking apart from the hull.Wrecks that remain…
- NGC-404 Smarter Combat AI & Empire Raids - 9 March 2026
Hello Sector Commanders,This week we focused on improving combat AI and battlefield behavior. Ships now choose tactics more intelligently, coordinate their attacks, and AI empires are capable of launching organized raid fleets.Smarter Ship Combat BehaviorShips have learned to fight more intelligently.Instead of flying directly toward the enemy, ships now adapt their behavior depending on their weapons, maneuverability, and current condition.Depending on the situation, ships may:Orbit around their target while maintaining optimal firing distancePerform quick attack runs followed by disengagementRetreat along a curved path while keeping their weapons aimed at the enemyAttempt flanking maneuvers to attack from the sideThese changes make battles feel much more dynamic and believable.Threat Envelope SystemShips now evaluate the tactical situation before committing to a fight.A new Threat Env…
- NGC-404 Combat Clarity & Fleet Movement Improvements - 1 March 2026
Hello Sector Commanders,It’s been one week since we launched our Steam page, and we’d like to share some of the improvements we’ve been working on recently.Turret Firing Arc Visualization OverhaulUntil now, turret range and rotation were represented by a very basic visual. It was functional - but not precise enough. It was time to improve it.Now, when you select a ship, a transparent blue firing arc appears around each weapon. This “fan” clearly shows:The exact firing angleThe maximum weapon rangeThe area the turret can currently coverVisual ImprovementsRange rings at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% distanceRings closer to the ship are more faded to reduce visual clutterAngle markers:Small ticks every 15°Larger ticks every 45° (like a clock face)A gold directional line with an arrow shows where the turret is currently aimingWeapon Group FilteringPlayers can now press 1–5 to select a weapon grou…
- NGC-404 is Now on Steam - 26 February 2026
After months of internal development and iteration, the project has reached a stage where it makes sense to open it up publicly. The store page is live, and development will continue with community visibility.
