- 2.0 — The Second Depth is live - 28 August 2026
The shark remembers every patch. This is the one where the bottom stopped being theoretical. 2.0 is on the default branch. There is nothing to opt into and no dropdown to find — Steam updates you the next time you launch. It comes off the experimental branch with its pacing measured rather than hoped at, and to everyone who ran it there and told us where the climb sagged: thank you. You are the reason the numbers below are numbers. Before you launch: 2.0 starts you over That is deliberate, and your 1.2.2 run is not deleted. The economy was rebuilt from the seabed up. Every value in an old save was earned against a ladder that no longer exists, and there is no honest way to reinterpret it inside the new one. So 2.0 does not read your old save at all. It writes to its own files, in its own namespace, and leaves the 1.2.2 files exactly where they are, at the hour you left them — not migrat…
- The Second Depth — 2.0 is on the experimental branch - 22 August 2026
The shark remembers every patch. This one it would rather you forgot, and then saw fixed. The game can be finished now Here is the thing we found and could not un-find. 2.0 got a rebuilt simulator that is a deterministic clock, an agent that plays competently rather than optimally, and a probe that measures what a fully-bought economy actually earns. We pointed it at the endgame to tune the pacing. It came back and told us the endgame was not reachable at all. Every scaling path short of the first Submersion gate and then sat flat for the rest of a simulated thirty days. The softcap system, the Pressure rites, the weakening relics, the entire late-game constellation, all of it was carefully modifying a wall that no economy could reach in the first place. Four hunt abilities were shipped and unreachable. The ladder had rungs above the ceiling. So the wall moved to where play actually hap…
- OceanFest has passed. The hunger remains. Thank you. - 7 June 2026
The ocean is not water. But it is, apparently, full of you.OceanFest came and went like a feeding frenzy like brief, violent, and somehow nourishing. The launch went well. Better than the shark dared hope when it first broke the surface, blinking and confused and ready. If you picked up The Ocean Is Not Water during the fest (or at any point, really): thank you. Genuinely. Every purchase, every hour spent hunting in the abyss, every save file the shark now carries in its memory it matters. The abyss noticed. So did I.You are the reason this thing exists outside my machine. The game is still young. The depths are deep. Reality is still occasionally negotiable. If you find something broken like a fish that refuses to be devoured, a number that shouldn't exist, a dream that won't end, a vortex that vortexes where it shouldn't please say so. Steam discussions, the issue tracker, a comment on…
- v1.2.2 — "Readable Depths" - 16 May 2026
v1.2.2 — "Readable Depths"The dream screen whispered in italics the player couldn't hear. Text scale now defaults to 150%, title and dream overlays stay legible at that size no matter what you pick in settings, and the subtext finally has enough contrast to read without squinting.🎨 UI / UX- Text Scale defaults to 150%. New installs and players still on the old 100% default are bumped to 150% once. The slider now runs up to **200%** for those who want even larger in-game text.- Title, dream, and offline screens fixed at 150%. These overlays no longer follow the Text Scale slider — they always render at a comfortable 150% baseline so narrative moments stay readable.- Dream screen readability pass. Larger narrative and choice description text, brighter contrast on offline duration and effect hints, and body copy switched from italic dim text to normal weight on primary/secondary colors.
- v1.2.1 — No Free Achievements - 25 April 2026
v1.2.1 — "No Free Achievements" *(April 25, 2026)**A dev test save was hitching a ride into the build, handing every new player a half-finished trophy case the moment they launched. Also, the freshly-added Wooden Pixel track was sitting on the shelf with no price tag. Both fixed.*🐛 Bug Fixes- Bundled test saves no longer ship to Steam. The Steam depot manifests now exclude `Saves/*` from upload, so dev save files left in `release/win-unpacked/Saves/` or `release/mac-universal/.../Saves/` cannot be pushed to players. New installs start clean — no inherited cheats, no pre-unlocked achievements.✨ New Features- Water Minds — by Wooden Pixel Music. New 250-Pearl music track in the Abyssal Bazaar's MUSIC section.
- Experimental: v1.2.0 — "OceanFest" - 27 March 2026
Experimental Branch: v1.2.0 — "OceanFest" Enjoy a little teaser for the upcoming Q2 feature release! Planned release: April 1st, 2026New FeaturesParadox Skill Trees — 3 skill trees (Infinite Maw, Abyssal Compression, Recursive Consumption) with 10 nodes each. Mutually exclusive A/B choices per column make every submersion cycle a fresh build. Resets on submersion.Arc Devourer Mode — After your first submersion, toggle between Sonar (classic pulse-click) and Arc (chain-lightning that arcs between fish) with animated rainbow forking bolts.3 New Depth Abilities — Abyssal Vortex (Depth 3, persistent whirlpool), Depth Charges (Depth 4, timed mines with overlap crits), Spectral School (Depth 5, autonomous phantom sharks with pack bonuses).Late-game Entropy & Teeth Upgrades — 6 new entropy upgrades (up to 1e48) and 5 new teeth upgrades (up to 1e45) for meaningful endgame progression.Tier 5 Res…
- v1.1.3 — "Fit Check" - 20 March 2026
v1.1.3 — "Fit Check" (March 20, 2026) The shark scaled to 150% and its Bazaar fell off the screen. Turns out "scaling text" means "scaling content" and the panels were still wearing their old jeans. Now everything stretches, scrolls, and fits — no matter how big you like your fonts. 🐛 Bug Fixes- Bottom tab panels no longer clip at high text scale. The content drawer height now scales with the Text Scale setting (`--ui-scale`). At 150% scale the drawer grows from 350px to 525px, giving content the room it needs instead of cutting it off.- Bazaar tab now scrolls. The Abyssal Bazaar had no scroll container — items at the bottom were simply invisible at higher scales. The header, engagement status, and sub-tab bar now stay pinned while the item grid scrolls independently.- Paradox tab now scrolls. The Scaling Path section (active path card + alternative path buttons) now scrolls when conte…
- v1.1.2 — "Bigger Fish" - 19 March 2026
v1.1.2 — "Bigger Fish" (March 18, 2026)Some eyes are sharper than others. The shark now lets you scale the text so every number, label, and tooltip is actually readable — without breaking a single panel.🎨 UI / UX- Text Scale slider. New setting in the Escape Menu under a dedicated Display section (Settings → Graphics tab, top). Slider ranges from 80% to 150% in 5% increments, defaulting to 100%. Scales all text proportionally while leaving panel sizes, spacing, and layout completely untouched.- Display section in Settings. Text Scale and Number Format now live under their own "Display" header, separated from the Graphics toggles below.- Persists globally. The scale preference saves across all save slots and survives machine transfers via Auto-Cloud.
- vMacOS — The Shark Crosses the Platform Barrier - 16 March 2026
vMacOS — The Shark Crosses the Platform BarrierThe Ocean Is Not Water is now live on macOS.That's right — the abyss no longer discriminates by operating system. If you've got a Mac, you've got a shark. What to expect:- Full game, same cosmic horror, same teeth — just on a different OS- Apple Silicon and Intel Macs supported- Everything *should* work the same as WindowsWhat to be aware of:- This is my first macOS release, so there may be rough edges — visual quirks, performance hiccups, or things that just feel slightly off- If something looks wrong, crashes, or the shark seems confused, please report it in the bug reports channel with your Mac model and macOS version- I am actively watching for issues and will patch as they come inYour feedback is how I make the Mac version as solid as the Windows one. Dive in, break things (respectfully), and let me know.
- Glass & Glow - 15 March 2026
v1.1.0 — "Glass & Glow"The shark looked around one day and noticed the UI was built for a spreadsheet, not an ocean. Every panel, every tab, every modal got dragged into a back room and came out wearing frosted glass, responsive layouts, and a sense of purpose. The player can now actually find things. ✨ New Features- Auto-buy system rework. Each generator now has an individual auto-buy toggle (animated clock icon — green pulse when active, red dashed when off). A master "Auto-buy All" toggle in the generator panel header enables or disables every generator's autobuyer at once. New `AutoBuyIcon` component is keyboard-accessible (Enter/Space) and prevents accidental parent-card clicks.- "Buy All" for upgrades. Each upgrade tier in the Devour tab has a "Buy All" button that purchases every affordable upgrade in that tier.- "Buy All" for brood. The Brood tab has a "Buy All" button that buys…
