- It's all a dialogue - 17 September 2026
I’ve been revamping the dialogue UX recently. Is this the most pressing thing to be working on? No. But I needed a break from making missions to be able to step back and look at what I have so far with fresh eyes. It also coincided nicely with some work that Cel and I are doing auditing and updating our existing character portraits. Since the main use for these portraits is dialogue, it made a lot of sense to do this now. I did a fair amount of UX research, looking through dozens of game’s dialogue screens. The main debate was between a visual novel style where you have 4 full length characters standing behind a shared text box, vs something we called the “side by side” where characters are anchored on the sides of the screen with a text box in the middle. The crux of the debate was whether we wanted full length portraits which would show off more costume and body language, or to have s…
- On a Mission - 16 August 2026
This is going to be a short update this month. In part it's because we already shared the big news! The demo is live and people are playing it. Thanks to everyone who has given it a go, I would love your thoughts and feedback on the game. There's a feedback button right in the pause menu and a few people have already sent in some very thoughtful suggestions (which I'm working on). There's a lot of potential QoL features that are just hard for me to see because I'm so familiar with the game as it is.The second reason for a short update is that I just welcomed a new little baby into my family. She's doing great and is a little sweetheart, but as a result I've had less time to work on the game the past few weeks. This will improve soon as we all get into our new rhythms, but progress has slowed. Having said that, I do have things to show off this month. In addition to all the prep and test…
- DEMO NOW - 3 August 2026
I’m going to keep this short and sweet: The demo for Hibera, Requiem for the Forgotten is live NOW. If you had the opportunity to meet us at A MAZE Berlin or GamerFest Dublin earlier this summer, this is the same demo we were exhibiting at those events, with a few bug fixes and quality of live features added. So if you only got to play the first mission, now you have the opportunity to press on! I’m delighted also to share we have a new trailer for the demo: Yours truly did some of the VO for the trailer and I think it came out rather well :) So what are you doing still here? Go play the demo already!

- Summer of my Demo Content - 16 June 2026
Hello! Back again for another Hibera update. It has been an absolutely wild month. First we had A MAZE, then GamerFest, both of which were exhausting but so much fun. Since then I have been doing a lot of project planning: the tedious business of deciding exactly what you’re going to make and when. It’s a lot of doc writing and not very fun to talk about or show off in updates. So I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at my git history for this month’s changelog!Main Menu AnimationsLots of Animations added, all playable units now fully animatedCamera pan to mission objective at the start of battleSnappier cursor movementAdded in-world XP bars for unitsDoors, Chests and other interactables highlight on hoverFont readability improvementsDemo Diagnostics and Feedback SystemAction Sentence UIRemoved a lot of noisy loggingAdded new high-res portraits for characters.Fixed a bug where the l…
- Steamdeck Compatibility - 19 May 2026
We've had questions about our steamdeck compatibility and are happy to share that the game runs great on steamdeck! Both the proton and the linux build run superbly and the game is designed for controller-first input. We have been using a steamdeck to show off the game at events like A MAZE. and GamerFest in conjuction with the official steamdeck dock.
- Hibera of TOmorrrowwwww - 14 May 2026
Another month of sweet game development under the belt and it’s time for another update. But actually there’s some future facing news for once! Later this month, Bad Juice Games will be at A MAZE in Berlin with a demo of Hibera, and will be at GamerFest in Dublin the weekend after that! It will be a great time to stop by and get to play the game! In other exciting news we have a Kickstarter! It’s in preview mode right now but it will be going live very soon so sign up to be notified when it does.! The game has come so far since the early days (go check previous blog posts) and I just need some additional help to fill out the bulk of the game content, so that’s what the fundraiser is for. Ok now this IS a dev blog so I can also talk about all the new features and work going into the game since last time. Since last update here’s our change notes:Added first part of Support Conversation s…
- The Neutral of my Enemy - 15 April 2026
Hello once again! Back again with another monthly dev blog update for Hibera, Requiem for the Forgotten. It has been a busy month! There’s been a lot of work done in the sort of “un-sexy” side of game development like marketing and business development, signing up for things, filling out forms. But despite all that plenty of work has gotten done on the game since the last update. Jumping right in:Audio OverhaulLetterboxing and Resolution supportA/V Settings menuTutorial hint systemSteam build pipelineSupport -> Cantrip Naming ConventionsAllies & Neutral Unit Faction supportUnit recruitment flowMid battle reinforcementsBattle triggers (for things like reinforcements)Lootable ChestsPerformance improvementsSo many bug fixes. The first three features on the list are all part of the same effort. It started as just a lot of little audio bug fixes. Things not fading in or out correctly, little…

I am so excited to be able to announce the name of the game is Hibera, Requiem for the Forgotten! This is my first steam dev log, but I've been posting some from a while back on badjuicegames.com.
