  • v1.09c - 30 September 2026

  • v1.09b - 29 September 2026

    no chair left behind

  • v1.09a - 28 September 2026

    fixed that one dang couch

  • 'Chairs' update v1.09 - 28 September 2026

-you can sit in chairs -exiting the chair requires the player to look at the chair/sofa/etc and use again. player will exit to a nearby spot that works best for each chair. -some instances of tape locations slightly tweaked to prevent usability confusion. tapes that were on chairs, now will locate in the same-ish location but perhaps on a nearby table. for maximum sittability. -some chair groups adjusted to prevent chair-hopping. chairs will not allow chair-hopping, but now most chairs are not so close so as to even hint that chair-hopping would have been possible. -a few extra chairs added for maximum sit. -some alignment cleanup in Mimetism. -minor flavoring added in a few levels. -'intro' page cleaned up to remove headbob effects -non-essential network plugins removed from the project. This is steps towards eliminating the 'firewall' popup. Part of steam achievements requires certain…

  • Update v1.08d - 27 August 2026

minor alignment cleanup, some lighting cleanup. some minor scenery improvements in level1.

  • Update v1.08C - 20 August 2026

Minor Updates: the running 'whoosh' sound no longer clicks. some small details added in vertigo and solitude. VERY minor. some mesh normals were improved to be properly smooth instead of sharp edged a few other minor collision/alignment/lighting cleanups.

  • B*S v1.08b update - 10 August 2026

tiny update. I have seen a few comments about the fake tapes. I added a cheeky clue in the hub, nearby the 'correct tape' example, which should help illustrate which of the tapes are fakes.

  • BACK*SPACE V1.08 - 6 August 2026

A new feature has been added for wanderers who find all the tapes. Will you be able to discover what it might be?

  • BACK*SPACE v1.07 - 3 August 2026

Invert Mouse option has been correctly restored, users can correctly swap between inverted and non-inverted. The Saved Play time function has been updated to resolve the possible Negative PlayTime bug. The entry of Vertigo is now slightly more interesting.

  • Update v1.06b - 8 July 2026

Mostly minor UI updates here. Full/Windowed/Windowed Fullscreen options now available in 'Monitor Options' VSync on/off added Frame Rate limit settings added Resolution changes coming soon Some UI text size/alignment/cleanup adjustments UI scaling implemented which should show no visible difference, but was needed for resolution options I am still working on the resolution options, mostly being careful here in that I need to be sure I don't bust the UI, and that only appropriate resolutions are made available. I want to be cautious here, but also want to keep making updates on features.

  • B*S V1.06 - 22 June 2026

Display settings are here! Or, at least, UE engine graphics settings. I know its been asked for and I needed to make progress on that. Users can use the Display Options now for not only Fullscreen/Windowed, but the other usual UE5 scaling settings, such as Shadow Quality, Anti Aliasing, Post Processing, Effects, View Distance, Illumination, Textures, and Reflections. Fair Warning, you can set Illumination below High, but doing so will essentially disable Lumen and lighting will be mostly dark. More to come. I think I will have to pull off something that looks a little different for the Resolution menu, and I may have to figure out if I can get aspect ratio changes in as well. Happy wandering!

  • Update v1.05c - 19 June 2026

a few missing collisions fixed. players can no longer climb the bookshelves. some very minor modifications to layout in Consumerism. slowly trying to improve the 'boring' spots, while maintaining original form.

  • BACK*SPACE v1.05b - 17 June 2026

fixes: punting the ball out of existence should no longer trigger a level reset. wanderers can no longer wedge-clip under the beginning of the spiral stair in level 5. IF a wanderer finds a noclip, and falls off, all levels should have a 'send em home' trigger.

  • B*S v1.05 update - 15 June 2026

Full Screen and Windowed Mode are new options added, in the new 'Display Options' menu. Tranquility had some collision issues, and a small area needed some polish.

  • BACK*SPACE v1.04c - 9 June 2026

More minor collision fixes. A little polish on a few level spots that needed it. If I continue to 'add polish', I will generally not be making huge architecture changes, mostly just punching up the scene visuals by adding a little detail or realism.

  • Update v1.04b - 3 June 2026

fixed a few more wall gaps. got dang. cleaned up some menu buttons for the new footsteps option I added in 1.04. opened a path in level 2, i've been noticing people seem to get stuck in a loop in the dark area. the path forward in that level is a little easier to find now, while keeping the general areas all essentially intact.

  • BACK*SPACE update v1.04 - 2 June 2026

Who loves minor updates? I do! some geometry cleanup, pretty tiny stuff. Mostly, I added a Game Option, to Enable or Disable Footstep/Walking sounds. I think a few players had mentioned wanting that as a feature. Honestly, I think its a thing across lots of liminal space games, that the footsteps get bothersome sometimes. Upon trying it myself, I found I liked that experience too, so I am glad for the input! It should On/Off both footsteps and water wading sounds.

  • B*S Update v1.03 - 27 May 2026

Main fix this time around, is VHS spawn rates. Thanks to the diligent work of user Henrimagne, it was found that tapes were not spawning right, with uneven selection and one place wasn't even getting chosen. All tapes should now correctly spawn between 1 of 6 locations. Also, more collision fixes. Thank you all for finding cracks to leap off the map from! Looking forward, I do want to implement a 'footsteps on/off' option in gameplay options, I would say this would be the next feature add, hopefully in the next week or so as I think that should be a fairly quick write-up. And, since this update fixed the tape spawn, I am considering increasing the possible locations to maybe 8? Thoughts?

  • B*S V1.02 - 21 May 2026

somewhat minor update! I mentioned in a comment before, but, the audio/headbob on buttons were flopped, thats fixed. Info page shows better Level Info. The VHS Shelf is a little neater and shows off the VHS art a little more. I love those sleeves. Added a visual cue in one level to where i suspect a stubborn hiding spot might be missed. A new Achievement?? Only the most curious of explorers might find it... Its not much but its a little fun, and I had a 'thanks' that needed saying, and this is my way of doing that.
