- v3.3.5 Pre-alpha: Biters, Island and Stealth - 20 September 2026
Summary This update adds biters, a new playable island area, stealth mode, changing weather and a reworked medical system, along with a long list of bug fixes. Features Vehicles: abandoned cars can now be stripped for materials or repaired from the Repair screen. Cars fall apart as they take damage from gunfire, melee, crashes and anything you run over: windows break, and doors, hoods and trunks tear off and fall away. Shooting out a tire leaves the car on a bare rim until you find a replacement, and losing both wheels on one axle prevents it from driving. Fallen doors, hoods and trunks can now be salvaged for scrap metal. Tires, engines, radiators, fuel tanks, brake discs and headlights now have their own models and icons instead of all looking like the same cloth sack. Sedans and coupes have a lootable trunk, and pickups, SUVs, wagons, vans and the bus sometimes carry a lootable box i…
- v3.3.4 Pre-alpha: Perks, vehicles and walkers - 12 September 2026
Summary This update overhauls vehicles (handling, repairs, trunk loot), adds walkers and surprise hordes, brings perks every five levels, and fixes over 20 bugs Features Vehicles Vehicles got a big pass this release: how they drive, what is inside them, and what happens when you hit something. Cars have real body dynamics now: every wheel has its own suspension, and the body rolls through corners, dives under braking and squats under power. Hold shift for a handbrake turn: the rear breaks loose so you can swing the car round, and grips again when you let go. Run a zombie down and it takes damage by speed, ragdolls away, and sprays blood across the hood and windscreen. Start the engine from an ignition prompt on the steering column. Trunks can be looted, or leave the loot and watch it roll around as you drive. Loot found in a car is appropriate for what you would find in an abandoned car…
- v0.3.3 Pre-alpha: Vehicles and Animals - 3 September 2026
Summary This update adds ridable motorbikes, huntable wildlife, third-person view, and rebuilt survivor models with swappable clothing and a refined main menu. Features New survivor models. Survivors are rebuilt on new male and female character models with more detail and a full set of swappable clothing, and existing animation, weapon handling, revive and death behaviour all carry across. Seven kinds of clothing (hat, jacket, shirt, gloves, trousers, boots and a balaclava) can be found and worn. Choose from 5 survivors to play as before starting a game. When you die, everything you had on you drops in one sack right where you fell. You can now see your death location on the map. Steadier first-person weapon handling. Weapons track your view more tightly instead of floating and lagging behind your aim, while keeping the walk-and-breathe character. Third person. Press F5 to pull the came…
- v0.3.2 Pre-alpha: Electricity and defenses - 25 August 2026
Summary Pre-alpha v0.3.2 is out for play testers! Generators, breaker panels, flood lights and three automatic turrets. Power up your base and let the turrets handle the horde. Also, the infected can climb now. Features Base defenses: you can now build a generator and connect your defenses to it. Build a generator, small or large, and its panel shows fuel, load and what has been wired to it. A breaker sub panel wires into a generator and gives you ten more positions to wire defenses to. Spot lights, directional and multidirectional flood lights are all buildable and wireable. Three automatic turrets have been added: the Vulcan minigun, sniper turret, and a shotgun turret. Running wire shows a strip on screen with what you are wiring and turns red when the run is too long. Added three new categories to the build screen: Power, Turrets and Traps. Power up a turret and let it handle the ho…
- v0.3.1 Pre-alpha: Destruction, key binds and cooking - 12 August 2026
Pre-alpha v0.3.1 is out for playtesters. Furniture and props are now destructible with the Fire Axe and break down into resources like planks, nails, cloth, feathers and metal scrap, while zombies tear through doors to get to you. Controls are fully rebindable, and the inventory screen gained a full set of keyboard shortcuts plus drag-to-world dropping. The Load World screen, backpack grid, cooking stations and menus all got a revamp, and a whack of client side bugs around gear and storage have been fixed. Zombie pathing and horde-night frame hitches are improved. Features Co-op sessions now hold up to eight survivors, up from four. New Game trades the old 1-4 buttons for a 1-8 slider that shows the upload speed your connection needs for the group size you pick. The size you choose is saved with the world and actually enforced, so a full world turns people away at the Join screen instea…
- Dev update #2: 4 player co-op and UI/UX overhaul - 8 July 2026
Hey survivors. Turns out "weekly" didn't survive contact with development. Lesson noted. What did survive: a good stretch of progress. Here's what's new and exciting! Four-Player Co-opYes, Afterlight is getting co-op and Internal playtesting has begun! The switch to multiplayer pretty much broke everything that was already working. It has been a massive undertaking getting things back to a playable state and back to where the game was as a single player game. The good news is that most of the major issues have been resolved now and we am moving forward with new features and content. Full UI/UX RedesignUp until this point, there wasn't a single cohesive design system in place. This made for a mishmash of ideas and UX between the main menu, in game HUD and inventory screens. We've invested some time into creating one consistent look across all UI elements in the game, and work has now beg…
- Dev update #1: POIs and player skills system - 19 April 2026
Hey survivors, Welcome to the first of our weekly dev updates for Afterlight. Every week I'll be sharing what we've been working on. Here's what made it into the game this past week(ish). Base Camp — Your Starting PointPlayers start the game into a dedicated base camp area that doubles as the game's tutorial, easing you into Pine Ridge County before things get really hairy. You'll learn the core systems here, movement, crafting, combat basics, and how to survive your first night. It is safer than the rest of the map, but not entirely. Consider it your first shelter before heading out into the world of Afterlight. New Points of InterestPine Ridge County just got a lot more interesting. Several new POIs are now scattered across the map, each with its own purpose, risks, and rewards. Survivor's CampNot everyone out here is infected. A handful of NPC survivors have carved out hidden camps ac…
