- DarkStone Restoration joins the Party-Based RPG Fest - 14 September 2026
DarkStone Restoration is taking part in the Party-Based RPG Fest. You do not fight alone in Uma. You raise two heroes and lead them side by side: switch between them, or take direct control of your companion mid-fight with Buddy mode, and bring a second player into the same world with couch co-op or Steam Remote Play Together. And with our latest update, your companion is smarter than ever: you now choose its brain. Pick a ready-made behavior (tank, mage, skirmish, support), reshape it, or build a whole new one, in a visual blueprint editor or in code. No coding needed to enjoy it, ready-made brains are included. During the fest Try the free demo and see the restoration for yourself. Wishlist the game to follow where it goes next. The full companion AI and Utility scripting update is live now.
- Update 5 — Fixes and quality of life - 7 September 2026
Update 5 A small patch to fix several issues you reported, plus a few quality-of-life tweaks along the way. Fixes Gold you just picked up is no longer destroyed by inventory auto-sort. The bank no longer freezes when it fills up. Fixed "ghost co-op" cases where a player stayed invisible to the others after a reconnect. Quality of life The script and flow-graph picker no longer closes if you click outside it, and the scrollbar can be dragged with the mouse. Flow-graph hot-reload is now active in the public build: edit a graph in-game and the change applies instantly, no restart needed.
- Update 4: Program Your Companion's AI - 5 September 2026
The headline of this update is scripting: you can now teach your companion how to fight, and automate your own quality-of-life actions, either in code or visually. No code is required to enjoy it: ready-made examples are included for every archetype. Program your companion, and yourself Scriptable companion AI: write a small JavaScript file to drive your companion's tactics, and assign a different one to each character from the inventory screen. Ready-made examples are included for every archetype. Utility scripting: automate comfort actions on your own character, self-buffs, potions and gear management, with strict safety limits (no targeting, movement or offense). Visual scripting (flow-graphs): if you would rather not write code, a node-graph editor (Blueprint style) drives the exact same behavior. Wire nodes together, reuse your own functions, watch the live execution path in a debu…
- Update 3 : Hotfix - Stash Chest Fix - 12 August 2026
Bug Fixes Fixed an issue that could cause the town stash chest to stop functioning after the endgame sequence, once the town becomes petrified. The chest reverted to standard chest behavior, which prevented access to the shared stash and gave the impression that stored items had been lost. Please note that no stored items were affected. Stash contents are saved independently of the chest itself. The items remain intact and become accessible again as soon as this update is installed. No save reset or manual recovery is required. I would like to thank the players who reported this issue.
- Darkstone Restoration - Update 2: Hardcore Mode - 5 August 2026
Hardcore mode is now live for everyone, along with a batch of fixes and improvements. Hardcore (Permadeath) mode A new option at character creation, for players who want the ultimate challenge: one life, no coming back. If your character dies, that run is over for good, so every fight matters. Saving happens in town only, which means no save-scumming your way out of a bad spot. The mode comes with its own leaderboards, ranking your longest survival time and the highest level a Hardcore character has reached, shown next to your name and character. Fixes and improvements Right-clicking to cancel a spell you were aiming no longer casts it by mistake, and no longer freezes the camera. Fixed a crash and a cut-off character voice line on some level transitions. Fixed a rare crash that could happen when acting right at the edge of a level. Monsters free their tile the moment they die, so a cor…
- If you miss the straightforward action RPGs of the past, try the generous demo for Darkstone Restoration - 27 July 2026
Before action RPGs relied on seasonal ladders and DLC treadmills there was Darkstone, a 1999 hack and slash where you clicked on things until they died and liked it. It had some interesting ideas, like the companion mode that lets you switch between two player-characters, the other controlled by the CPU while you took the lead, but it remained true to the basics of a genre I got into precisely because it was basic...
