  • Update 1.3.0: Divorce Settlement (US, UK, Canada, France) - 19 September 2026

When a marriage ends you get a real decision instead of a dice roll. Where the children live, what your country's rules say you owe, and how you actually satisfy it: pay from cash, split a pension, buy your ex out against the home, sell through an agent you choose, or put the sale off until the children are grown.Researched market by market. The US works on income shares and splits a 401(k) by QDRO. UK (England and Wales modeling) orders a lump sum by instalments secured on the home, and a Mesher order defers the sale. Canada (modeled after Ontario) reads the Federal Child Support Tables and treats the matrimonial home at full value. France charges droit de partage and pays a prestation compensatoire.Children cost what children actually cost now, from nursery fees through to eighteen, with figures researched for each country. Having physical custody of them might mean your ex pays you,…

  • Patch 1.2.3 - General Improvements - 5 September 2026

Japan was showing its mortgage deposit options in Japanese even if you were playing in English. Fixed! Mortgages. The shorter loan term option used to knock the same 0.625% off the rate in every country. Every market now has its own figure that shows the approx different in APY rate if say you choose a 30 year loan v. 15 year loan- and some regions do not give discounted rates if you choose a shorter term, so now that's reflected in-game. France had two 10% deposit options, and picking the second one silently gave you the first. You got the 2.5% PTZ loan instead of the 3.5% standard one. Fixed! Market news could contradict itself with a recession warning landing next to a boom. Market news now holds its direction for a few months to avoid a back-to-back contradiction. Expense cuts- Restoring one gave back the amount from the day you cut it, not today's rate which would account for infla…

  • Patch 1.2.2 - Mortgages & House prices - 5 September 2026

Play Your Life - A mortgage you already own is now charged as a monthly bill. Previous bug was it was never deducted, so it wrongly paid itself off. - Interest rates now apply correctly. Previous bug was a mortgage entered at 6% was running at 0.06% - Large amounts are grouped as you type depending on your country's format- basically number separators like a comma for every "thousands". Japan - House prices, rent and rental income now use the researched Japanese figures. Homes were selling for around two thirds of their real price All markets - Mortgages use each country's usual term/period instead of 30 years. Japan has 35, Kenya has 15, Mexico 20, etc. Thanks to Woofel for identifying the mortgage bugs.

  • Patch 1.2.1 - Play Your Life & Auto-invest Fix - 1 September 2026

Play Your Life: - Your entered numbers are used exactly as typed. Every market except the US was converting them a second time, so a 300,000 yen salary started you on 21,000,000. Fixed! - The summary screen before month 1 was scaling those figures again. Fixed! - Going back from that screen could switch your market. Fixed! Auto-invest: - Setting a recurring investment back to zero (after you've had it) left its line on the Bills Due screen. Nothing was ever deducted, the screen was just still showing it. Fixed! Thanks to otukaretarau and TheDecider, who reported these.

  • Update 1.2.0: Auto-Invest - 31 August 2026

🔁 New Feature: Auto-InvestPlayers kept asking: if you can already set up a monthly 401(k) contribution, why not an index fund? Now you can...finally!How it works- Locate the 🔁 row on any savings or investment asset, enter your desired amount, and select Set. The game will automatically purchase that asset every month moving forward without requiring any manual clicks. It cannot put you in debt- Auto-Invest only utilizes the cash left over after your monthly bills are paid. If funds are tight and the money isn't there, the game will simply skip the purchase and notify you on the Bills Due screen. It will never borrow money, cause an overdraw, or force you into debt. It simply resumes the following month if you have enough cash.Dollar-Cost Averaging- The game automatically buys at the current month's asset price. When the market drops, your fixed amount buys more shares; when prices are…

  • Patch 1.1.1- Shipping fixes to last udpate - 23 August 2026

Small follow-up to yesterday's update. Thanks to Adrian Joo and TheDecider for catching them. • Fixed a crash when selling a retirement or tax-free savings account that had grown. This affected every market, including Roth IRA, ISA, TFSA, NISA, Riester, Assurance Vie, Previdência and PPR. • Fixed a crash when pressing Back on a Play Your Life briefing screen. • Fixed the crash screen's own "Reload and resume" button, which did nothing at all • Tooltip amounts no longer scale twice. Australia's FCS deposit guarantee, Brazil's FGC ceiling, the MEI revenue limit and the Tesouro minimum were all being shown inflated. They now read at their real values. • The retirement contribution label now respects the employer match cap, so it no longer promises more than your paycheck actually pays. • First-home savings accounts now count toward whether a house shows as affordable, and the purchase brea…

  • Launch-Week Feedback Update - 23 August 2026

Many thanks to everyone that has provided feedback that went into this update, led by TheDecider & kony74!Here is what changed: Every market now has its own health systemIf you played the UK, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Kenya, Mexico or Japan, you could not buy or raise health insurance at all. That is now built per country. Britain has the NHS with private top-up. Canada has Medicare with extended benefits. Australia has Medicare, and if you earn above the threshold with no private cover, you now pay the Medicare Levy Surcharge, just like you would in real life. France has the Sécu with a mutuelle on top. Kenya has SHA. Each one should now use its real name and its real monthly cost. Cutting expenses actually does something nowEvery expense cut is now a percentage of what you actually pay, so it works at any income, in any currency. There is also a new transpor…

  • Play Your Life is included. Fixed. - 19 August 2026

Quick fix and an apology. If you started Play Your Life today, filled in your real salary and expenses, and then got asked to pay at the end, that was a bug. Play Your Life is included in the game you bought. There is nothing extra to buy in this release. If you ran into this and closed the game, please give it another go. Steam should update on its own. If it does not, restart Steam. Sorry about that- and thanks for those who reported this to me early on! Nick

  • Live! Escape the Grind is out today - 18 August 2026

It's out. After months of building, Escape the Grind just launched. If you wishlisted, thank you. I hope you will enjoy this realistic game as much as I did developing it. For anyone new: this is a financial independence simulator. You start on a normal salary with normal expenses and try to build enough passive income or accumulate enough invested assets to quit your job. You'll wrestle with credit card debt, tempting lifestyle upgrades, real market crashes, and the occasional "your car just broke down, that's $2,400" moment. I'm most proud of the time and research that went into developing for 11 country economies, each researched from local verifiable sources in these regions. For example:US has 401(k)s and Roth IRAsUK has ISAsGermany has Bausparvertrag and RiesterMexico has AFORE and INFONAVITJapan has iDeCo and NISABrazil has FGTS and Tesouro DiretoCanada has TFSAs and RRSPsFrance…
