• Steam s first sexually explicit Adult Only games are out now, but not in every region - 17 September 2018

  With the release of Negligee: Love Stories last Friday, a major new door has been opened on Steam. Sexually explicit games are now allowed on the storefront, albeit filtered out by default. However, the Adult Only tag excludes games from sale from many countries for legal reasons, according to this Steam forum post by Negligee developers Dharker Studio. Restrictions aside, there’s more good news for fans of extremely naked people in games. The first wave of official Adult Only content patches have begun to roll out for previously-cut games on Steam. Along the first is the pop idol-themed visual novel Shining Song Starnova (also available on GOG), although several more have surfaced since. (more…)

• Steam's first uncensored adult game release restricted in 28 countries - 17 September 2018

  Negligee: Love Stories, Steam's first uncensored adult game , was approved and released last week. Since then, several countries have apparently banned the sexually explicit adventure game. In turn, developer Dharker Studios says this means it "can't release under the radar", and its availability has now been restricted in 28 countries. As detailed in this Steam Community post (via Kotaku ), Dharker Studios says it must abide by the laws of specific countries and that "these restrictions are the downside of being the poster child for the first adult game on Steam." The post adds: "Several of the restricted countries banned the game which prompted us to realise that we can't release it under the radar.   This feels like a milestone – a sexy milestone. When Valve said that under their new content warning system , there’d be fewer restrictions on what could be sold on Steam, I was sceptical. Now it seems they were true to their word. If nothing goes wrong between now and its launch this Friday, saucy visual novel Negligee: Love Stories will be Steam’s first uncut sexually explicit game. • New Release Date - 6 September 2018

  I am happy to say that Steam have now released new content filters including the Mature Adult game filter, and confirmed to us that happily the game can be re-reviewed with this content in mind. As such tomorrow we will be re-submitting the game for review in its fully uncensored format. I have also set a new release date for the 14th September 2018. Giving enough time to not only re-review the game and prepare everything but also potentially refine the game further and add in some more art and images before we release the game on steam fully uncensored as it was originally designed. Update: The game has completed the review process and will be released on schedule this Friday, 100% uncensored.

• Adult game approval on Steam could still be months away - 16 August 2018

  Valve said in June that Steam's policies were being changed to allow basically everything on Steam, as long as it wasn't either illegal or "straight-up trolling." As part of that effort, Valve said it was working on new filtering tools that would give Steam users more control over what they see on the platform, and added that "significant changes" to what's allowed wouldn't be seen until those tools were in place. It also plans tools for developers to help curb harassment due to "controversial content." In light of that, it's no surprise (or at least it shouldn't be) that adult games are not being automatically and immediately approved for sale on Steam. • Steam Delaying Release - 15 August 2018

  Our game Negligee: Love Stories was submitted to steam for final review, this process took a much longer time than is normal for us, causing us to follow up with them to find out if there was an issue. We have now received a response, essentially Steam have advised the following: "We’re right in the middle of building some features into Steam for customers to be able to choose the type of products they see in the store. Your game has content in it that needs these features to be completed and shipped first. You’ll have to do some additional store page work around describing the content in your game once we have completed those features. We don’t have an exact timeline for those features though, so please be patient as we complete the work." From this response I as a company requested to know if these new 'required' features would take weeks, months or more and have now been advised: "As…
