Rather than being lazy and typical, the Swedish developers behind Battlefield found a guy who plays one of the most memorable and moving guitar riffs in years. Maybe the developers didn't want to pay big money to use the Stones or CCR. Good thing they didn't, because Memphis Guitar Soul sums up the turbulent 60s just as well as the bands who were there.

• The Platform That Plays Together Unlocks The Bad Company: Vietnam Map First - 30 December 2010

  Battlefield: Bad Company 2 wanted to see a team spirit on its new Vietnam DLC package before unlocking a remastered Operation: Hastings map. PC players have answered the call first, passing the 69 million "team action" threshold required earlier today. By comparison, the Xbox 360 community is about halfway there (37 million team actions), and the PS3 community trails that total by 10 million. What's a team action? It's the three Rs and an H. And an S. Resupply, revive, repair, heal and spot. Any of those carried out in BFBC2 Vietnam, retroactive to its release date, counts toward the unlock total. The glorious PC community's triumph could be attributed to any number of factors. Maybe it has more players, or more players putting in more time. Or maybe they are more selfless and public-spirited. • BFBC2V: Who’s Playing? Thoughts? - 20 December 2010

  I had a bit of a blast on this last night. A few thoughts spring to mind: the map design is pretty good, although a bit chokepoint-heavy on a couple of the maps. I’m not that much of a fan of the flamethrower. It’s fun to use, sure, but you almost always get killed a few seconds after lighting up. Must make you easier to target or something. The overall Vietnam ambiance is great. Also, and I suppose I should have realised this, your level in BFBC2 carries over, which is a shame because I was kind of looking forward to having to unlock everything, and it’s already unlocked. Hmm. We should have a server up later in the week, I will post when it’s sorted. For now: a launch trailer, with a deeply trendy interpretation of the Vietnam war. Mm, launch. (more…)
