- Microsoft acquires Magic Marker dev Press Play - 6 June 2012
Microsoft has picked up Press Play, maker of Tentacles and Max and the Magic Marker , it was announced amidst all the E3 hubub on Monday. It's probably chiefly, but not only, for the Danish studio's mobile mastery, as neither game came to Xbox 360 but both hit Windows Phone. "We proudly embrace this change and are looking forward to bringing new Press Play games to our fans across all of Microsoft's platforms," the studio said in a statement on its website . "In a weird and non-indie way, we believe that we will have more creative freedom with Microsoft Studios than we have ever had before. For the first time ever we can focus ALL energy on our games, and great things are on the horizon." Press Play added that it "will continue to strive for creativity and awesomeness," and is "super excited" to reveal its next games "in the very near future." How nice!
- Indie Royale New Year's Bundle now available - 5 January 2012
The folks at Indie Royale are at it again, delivering their first bundle of 2012. Appropriately titled The New Year's Bundle, it packages together four great indie games from an eclectic mix of genres, and uses the consumer-beloved "pay the minimum or more" pricing model that's become so popular in the indie bundling world. includes Interwave Studios' Nuclear Dawn , the FPS-RTS hybrid where players can shoot it out on the ground using several different classes, or take on the role of commander to provide tactical support for your teammates. Cipher Prime's excellent and unique tile-based puzzler, Fractal is also on board, as is Press Play's Max and the Magic Marker . Max and the Magic Marker actually includes two versions. The standard edition is playable via Steam, digital download service Desura, or as a DRM-free download. A high-definition version of the game is also included, which i…
- Max and the Magic Marker heading to PSN - 13 September 2011
The cult hit Max and the Magic Marker is moving beyond the PC and DS . Developer Press Play announced yet another destination for the puzzle platformer: PlayStation Network. Coming this fall in the US and Europe, it packs enough new features to transform it into the "Gold Edition." The PS3 version will add 1080p visuals and comparability with the PlayStation Move controller (which only makes sense given that it's already available on the Wii). The physics-based platformer lets you draw your own solutions to obstacles and enemies, using objects like stairs and catapults. The game was critically well-received, winning various awards and receiving a generally favorable reception on its current platforms. The game is currently available on the Wii Shop Channel, the Apple App Store, and various PC download services. A price for the "Gold Edition" has yet to be set.
- Max and the Magic Marker coming to DS - 15 August 2011
The indie game Max and the Magic Marker is hitting yet another platform, as developer Easy Interactive announced that it will hit the DS in North America this holiday season. The game has already hit the PC, WiiWare, and iOS devices, but one more option can't hurt. Max and the Magic Marker (PC) The game involves drawing with a magical pen to solve environmental puzzles, and it received a positive reception from critics. It's interesting, though, that this is targeting the original DS, which is seeing a dirth of new releases as the 3DS takes over as Nintendo's primary handheld. It may prove a smart move, since the game can take advantage of the DS' massive install base, while still working fine on the newer platform thanks to the 3DS' backwards compatibility. "Max and the Magic Marker is a beautifully imagined game and we're thrilled to bring it to North America on Nintendo DS," said man…
