- Amazon sign first-look deal with the company planning Disco Elysium and Life Is Strange shows - 18 February 2022
Amazon Studios are considering making Prime shows and films based on video games, signing a first-look deal with the production company currently planning adaptations of games including Disco Elysium and Life Is Strange. This will give Amazon the first opportunity to snap up anything DJ2 Entertainment might be making, if they want to. This is not, however, an announcement that Amazon will make these specific shows. These shows still might never get made, by anyone. But maybe it's enough of a step forwards for you to start daydreaming about what such shows could be? Read more

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time… It’s always sad when a promising indie dev goes under. The latest is Ultra Ultra , a Copenhagen-based outfit whose first (and last) game was Echo , a stealthy-actiony-horror-ish type game where a croaky-throated young woman travels to an ornate, planet-sized palace in order to try to revive a long-lost friend she’s carrying around in a red cube on her back. - Echo developer Ultra Ultra has shut down - 8 May 2019
Ultra Ultra, the developer behind well-received stealth-action sci-fi game Echo, has announced its closure. The Copenhagen-based studio, which was formed by several former members of Hitman developer IO Interactive, broke the news on Twitter , writing that, "We're terribly sad to report that Ultra Ultra has ceased to exist." Although the developer did not elaborate on the reasons for its closure, it noted that Echo, its first and only title, would remain for sale in stores. Echo, which released for PC and PS4 in 2017, offered a stylish, fascinating take on the stealth-action genre, employing a distinctive system which pitted players against computer-controlled versions of themselves. Every five minutes, the murderous AI in charge of Echo's strikingly baroque complex, known as The Palace, would power the world down and reboot, teaching the clones all your recent moves so they could be us…

Ultra Ultra, the small Copenhagen-based studio behind sci-fi stealth-puzzler Echo , have officially closed their doors today. Announced quietly through Twitter , they state that “Ultra Ultra has ceased to exist”. I’d always been aware that Echo had never sold as well as it should have, but it’s still tragic to hear that such a talented team are going their separate ways just a year and a half from the release of their first game. There is one small bit of good news – the recently-optioned film (as reported by Deadline ) is still in production, also confirmed by the studio via Twitter . (more…)

ECHO now supports Razer Chroma peripherals: Experience the blackouts across all your Chroma peripherals! Palace ambience color corresponding to which section you are in, as well as active keys, hurt sphere, stamina- and recharging-bar. It’s cool! Also, now you can re-watch cut-scenes and Verses from the Level Select Menu. (Cut-scene “seen” status for being able to skip should now save properly as well!) Window mode, resolution and aspect ratio now only gets applied when user presses an Apply-button instead of applying while changing values in the menu, which sucked. And, of course, minor bug fixes and visual updates. Merry Christmas!

When I first started playing Echo I was reminded of London s tube network. Down there, meters below street level, the rules of space seem to deform. There are corridors that seem to go on forever, winding passages that twist left and right at random, and emergency staircases that feel so long that you begin to wonder if the space itself has started repeating. Echo is the first offering from Ultra Ultra, a small group of Danish developers with a history at Hitman creators IO Interactive, and it’s a truly strange stealth game, obsessed by the uncanny qualities of repeated space. I thought I was going to enjoy Echo , but in the end I bounced off it hard. I wish that was just a bad pun about sound waves, but no, that's what happened. Echo starts off well with shiny graphics and a lot of attitude—even the main menu is slick and suitably sci-fi, with a giant eye that follows your cursor. The intro cinematic is captivating, complete with great voice acting and dialogue that feels natural, never overblown. But after being enraptured by the first five minutes, I spent the next hour of Echo walking across snowy catwalks while the backstory was hashed out in dialogue. That wouldn't have been a problem if I wasn’t keenly aware that it involved none of the mechanics I was here for. That first hour, it turned out, set the tone for the rest of the game.
