  • The first update for Rifter is here! v1.1 - 31 July 2018

https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/apps/625740/extras/gameplayGif.png?v=1532977790 Rifter is challenging... it is supposed to be! And while many players like the game the way it is, some players were asking for a slightly more forgiving experience. The latest update provides just that! Introducing: accessible mode! You can now choose to play Rifter in a more casual mode, which reduces the game's difficulty quite a bit. The key changes: slightly slower overall game speed swing-fling indicator, showing you where you would land when releasing the hook unlimited respawns from checkpoints some upgrades unlocked right from the start, without paying a single shard online leaderboards are disabled, play at your own pace Should you realize you don't like the mode you're currently playing in: don't worry, you can freely switch between the two modes at any time, without losing any progress! :)…

  • Speedy synthwave grappling platformer Rifter is out now - 13 July 2018

Synthwave is in vogue, speedrunning is big news and grappling hooks will never not be in style, which makes Rifter (from solo indie dev Maximilian Csuk ) potentially too cool for school. Hasn’t stopped it from being punctual, though – probably the speedrunning part at work – as it launched today, and I’ve had fun in the little bit I’ve played so far. Below, a very swooshy launch trailer. (more…)

  • Synthwave grapple-platformer Rifter lands on PC in July - 24 May 2018

Some say that synthwave aesthetics are overplayed, but I’d argue that it’s one of the best trends to hit gaming. A whole new excuse to have catchy synth music, bright complimentary colours, clearly defined visuals and explosions of neon particles every five seconds. Upcoming arcrobatic speedrunning platformer Rifter takes all of that and adds grappling hooks to the mix, which sounds like a good time to me, at least. (more…)

  • Rifter is a neon-drenched mix of Sonic the Hedgehog and Bionic Commando - 23 May 2018

In the Indie GIF Showcase, we dig up the best-looking new and upcoming indie games and explore what makes them special. Are you a developer with a game to submit? Use this form .    I love doing these Indie GIF Showcases, but they often require me to write about cool-looking games that are still quite a ways off, which always stings a bit. It's like writing next year's Christmas list—a curious mix of excitement and longing. Verdungeon , for instance, looks great, but it's not due until later this year or early next year. Which is why I'm so pleased that Rifter, a striking "acrobatic platformer" to hear solo developer Maximilian Csuk tell it, is scheduled to release this July.   To put it simply, Rifter is a 2D platformer that's all about grappling hooks. If you're anything like me, you're on board after hearing that alone, but it…
