Is Alien Arena still being developed? Yes, it certainly is: introducing Project 100, supporting the smoothest Alien Arena gameplay experience yet! The game engine and net code have had many improvements to fully support a smooth and responsive game experience for at least 100 FPS framerate, 100 FPS server tickrate, 100 PPS packet rate for client-server communication, and mouse polling that scales with your framerate (100 Hz at 100 FPS, 200 Hz at 200 FPS, etc.). With this, the gameplay should remain smooth even with older hardware or high ping, now fully lifting the game from its Quake 2 legacy of 10 server ticks per second to a modern game. - Several updates are live now! - 1 July 2023
This update applies only to windows users, for now. Linux users can take a look at the workaround or alternatives described at https://www.alienarena.org It's now possible to very easily download and install 3rd party maps hosted on https://www.alienarena.org by just using the installmap command from the console in the game. Next to this, all game operations are now hosted on alienarena.org, also irc moved to irc.alienarena.org. You shouldn't notice any difference regarding these changes. Also some bugs have been fixed: Downloading maps is using the http protocol again instead of udp, so much faster downloading. The newsfeed is working again. The old obsolete in-game stats have been removed.
