- This mod updates adventure game classic The Longest Journey with HD visuals - 26 May 2019
If you were looking for an excuse to replay The Longest Journey, one of the best adventure games of all time , then look no further than The Longest Journey HD, a new mod with upscaled backgrounds and sprites, a redrawn user interface and other smaller visual improvements.  Modder Faberman used a neural network to upscale the assets, and has done the same with in-game cutscenes, which you can download separately here . Judging by the screenshots of the mod it's definitely an improvement on the original, and environmental details are much easier to see. To run the mod you'll have to own the base game and also install game engine ResidualVM, because the original engine doesn't support modified assets. The full instructions are here . Just as Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey got near its $850,000 funding goal at Kickstarter , developer Red Thread Games put up an early prototype gameplay video. You can see the heroine Zoe running around a rich, fully explorable, shiny forest environment called Riverwood, as well as the new hybrid interface that combines freeroam movement and classic point and click gameplay. The Kickstarter for the project was launched on the 8th February and, should the campaign succeed, it will make Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey the third installment of the adventure series. Before MMOs - before The Secret World, before Age of Conan and before Anarchy Online - Funcom was known for superb PC adventure game The Longest Journey. Eurogamer cooed at Ragnar Tornquist and Funcom's creation back in 2000, awarding a massive 9/10 . A less memorable 2006 sequel, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, scored 5/10 . Now, not only has Ragnar Tornquist told Eurogamer that a continuation of The Longest Journey is possible, he's said he actively "tinkers" with it. "95 per cent of my time is tied up - no I guess the correct answer is 120 per cent of my time is tied up with The Secret World, and I use 25 per cent of other time to work on other stuff," said Tornquist.
