  • It’s official: the Final Fantasy 16 PC launch is somehow even worse than Final Fantasy 15’s (at least according to Steam) - 18 September 2024

The somewhat-awaited launch of Final Fantasy 16 on PC is here, nearly 15 months after the game’s initial release on PS5. The PC version arrived on Tuesday, available for purchase on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Read more

  • Square Enix won't let us play Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC yet, so my consolation prize is finally playing Final Fantasy 15 - 27 February 2024

I'm descending into a wet cave. The flashlight stuck to my all-black uniform provides a pitiful light. In fact it seems like it's mocking me by being on at all. I can't see anything, and what's more I know there will be a million goblins and ghouls in here waiting to make my field of vision a particle-filled hell... Read more.

  • Final Fantasy 15 director finally touches on what pushed him to leave Square Enix - 4 December 2023

Five years after he left Square Enix , Final Fantasy 15 director Hajime Tabata has shared a little bit of insight as to how things went down. Back in 2018, one of the strangest video game livestreams potentially ever took place: Tabata announced he was leaving Square Enix, a majority of Final Fantasy 15's DLC was cancelled, and some PC port features were scrapped too. After 15's tumultuous development, it was an unsurprising end, but obviously not a massively surprising one given the events that led up to that point. Now, in an interview with 4gamer , Tabata very briefly touched on why he decided to leave Square Enix (thanks, GamesRadar ). According to the Final Fantasy 15 director, the main reason was essentially down to the philosophy of Yosuke Matsuda, the at-the-time president of Square Enix. Tabata apparently said that the two of them had "different" philosophies, and he obviously…

  • Square Enix seems happy with Final Fantasy 16 sales, but imagine if it released on more than just PS5 - 21 July 2023

Square Enix has revealed that it's not at all concerned about the sales of Final Fantasy 16 so far. The game, released exclusively on PS5 on June 22, shipped and digitally sold a combined 3 million units in its first week. The figure is below recent releases in the series, and though Square Enix never officially revealed sales targets for the game, remains lower than one would anticipate the next mainline entry in the storied Final Fantasy series to sell. But, according to Square Enix, the game's sales are "extremely strong." The publisher's argument is that the install base of PS5 is smaller, compared to that of the PS4 when Final Fantasy 7 Remake - which sold 3.5 million copies in three days - released exclusively on the platform. • We never asked for this: Deus Ex developer Eidos Montreal almost made Final Fantasy 15 - 23 May 2022

Eidos Montreal was at one point in time apparently going to make Final Fantasy 15 , which has now been confirmed by a former art director. Jonathan Jacque-Belletête, who used to work at Eidos Montreal, recently spoke with TrueAchievements confirming a longstanding rumour that the Canadian developer was working on Final Fantasy 15. "Eidos Montreal brought back Deus Ex. I was the art director on that - Deus Ex: Human Revolution," Jacque-Belletête explained to TrueAchievements about his time at the studio. "Then the executive art director on Mankind Divided. Then we tried to do Final Fantasy XV. Then they decided to bring it back to Japan - which I think was a big mistake, but it's still the truth. Ours was really, really cool." Read more

  • Final Fantasy XV hits 10 million worldwide JRPG sales - 17 May 2022

With most of the fanbase itching in anticipation of the next Final Fantasy XVI trailer , Square Enix confirms today that Final Fantasy XV sales worldwide for the RPG game have topped over 10 million copies, across all platforms. Final Fantasy XV finally released on PC in March 2018 after a year and a half exclusive to consoles, and it's still one of the best JRPGs on PC . Today, over five years since its initial release and on the Final Fantasy franchise's 35th anniversary - which is soon to see Final Fantasy XI return within FFXIV - Square Enix has announced this big sales milestone of 10 million copies sold for Final Fantasy XV, and thanks fans for their support. We're not sure whether that includes players that downloaded Final Fantasy XV on Xbox Game Pass when it was available, but nonetheless, it's an impressive milestone. The PC version is definitely a big part of that number, too…

  • PlayStation PS Plus Premium ‘classics’ offering starts to take shape - 16 May 2022

The first batch of games have been confirmed for the "all-new" PlayStation Plus , with some big headliners like Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut . Announced back in March , the new, revamped PlayStation Plus launches next month , June 22 (for Europe, anyway). And over on the PlayStation Blog , we've been given a little taste of the games that will be available on the service. The selection detailed in the post isn't as big as you might expect, though the post does note that this is an "early look at some of the games that will be included during the launch time frame." The post starts off with the list of PS4 and PS5 games that will be available. You probably won't be surprised to see titles like Bloodborne on there (which was already available on PlayStation Now). The first God of War is included, alongside some other big name titles like Marvel's Spider-M…

  • The 35 best ultrawide games on PC - 18 November 2020

Ultrawide gaming monitors are the kind of hardware that might seem too excessive, maybe even a bit too gamer to bother with for playing games on PC, especially when their demanding resolutions often require powerful graphics cards to make the most of them. Once you try one, though, there’s no going back. I’ve been a big fan of ultrawide gaming monitors for years now, mostly because supported PC games just look fantastic on them. And that’s why I’ve put together this list of the best ultrawide games on PC – to show you exactly what they look like in the flesh, complete with GIFs and photos of them running on an ultrawide monitor so you can see them in motion with your own peepers. • Final Fantasy 16's reveal trailer has big Final Fantasy 15 energy and I am here for it - 18 September 2020

Final Fantasy 16 ‘s future on PC may have been thrown into doubt over the last 48 hours thanks to Square Enix’s ongoing exclusivity mess, but man alive, I am EXCITED all the same. Partly because its brand new “Awakening” reveal trailer shown off during Wednesday’s latest PS5 Showcase a) looked fantastic, and b) explicitly stated it had been captured on PC, thereby giving me hope that it will come to PC eventually. But mostly because it reminded me a lot of the previous game in the series, the wonderful (but epically flawed ) Final Fantasy 15 . Allow me to explain. (more…)
