- Afterthought Games Is Closing! - 28 October 2019
This Halloween has claimed another victim, Afterthought Games. Yes, we are closing down forever. That means this is your last chance to buy Cornflower Corbin, or Unreal Estate before they are out of stores for good. Valve has re-assured us that those whom have purchased the games and those that purchase the games before our studio closes will continue to be able to install and play them into the future. There are no worries there. We are sad that our income, personal lives, and financials make it not financially viable to keep running. We love making games and love it that many people have been entertained by them. This all started as a dream, and we achieved so much with your support. Thank you for all the good times and experiences. Pick up the games this Halloween before they are gone forever, Rest in Peace Afterthought Games, it's been fun.
- Unreal Estate Update 1.0.17 - 12 June 2019
We've been hard at work on our bigger title for a while now, and I changed jobs a few months ago, so that has been an undertaking, but we wanted to get a little something out for the Summer Sale coming up. So we did a quick pass on some animation updates. The change is subtle but we think it makes the game look a little nicer. We have no plans for more updates at this time, but we randomly think of things from time to time, so who knows. https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F27197236%2F12a3b172686ccd79d58356a5662dbf55a4ccd566.png As for the studio we are working a larger title now. It's going to be a rts/rpg like game. We don't want to talk too much about it, but we are excited. Hopefully we'll have more news about this in the coming months. We are also slowly but surely upgrading the animations in our side scrolling shooter Cornflower Corbin. That one is more…
- Unreal Estate Update 1.0.16 - 16 December 2018
We've spent the last 10 months or so working out that we are not going to do one of the projects we had on our plate. After that we started to spin up another one. It's going to be a big game, probably bigger than a 2-man studio should take on, but we are excited to work on it. Plus, we made the switch from Monogame to SDL. Much more to come on that project later. In the meantime, we are taking a little bit of time each month to come back to our games we already released to put a little something into them if we can. We have also spent more time than we would like to, telling people that we are not the Afterthought LLC that made The Isle. I get why people are making the mistake, but we feel bad not responding to people that are looking for that company. So, if you need something regarding that game, it isn't us. https://cdn.steampulse.org/steam/asset?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsteamcdn-a.akamaihd.net%2Fsteamcommunity%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fclans%2F27197236%25E2%2580%25A6
- Cornflower Corbin - Getting Full Hand Drawn Animation Art Pass - 15 December 2018
We are putting some time into Cornflower Corbin and updating the art for all the sea creatures. We feel that it will take on a better life and look that matches the fun game-play if we hand animate all the sea life that Corbin is fighting through to save the day. The one complaint we have received about the game has been the look and feel. So we made the decision to slowly update it to what we think will make it fantastic. What we are doing is hand drawing framed animations for all creatures in the game. This means we are learning to hand animate while doing this. This is a entertaining undertaking as we have never done this before. We are used to using something like Spriter Pro to do something like a paper doll animation. This allowed us to move parts by rotating etc, but the animations don't look as alive as they could with a hand drawn animation. Hand animation takes time and effort…
- Update 1.0.13 - 12 January 2018
Hey everyone, We've been hard at work on some new things in Unreal Estate. The bulk of which revolve around improving the single player experience. We are working on the Multiplayer experience but we've been running into a lot of hardware limitation with what we can afford vs what will be efficient enough to handle a new multiplayer platform. Life of an Indie studio, right! So, since that is taking so long we wanted to get an update out for the single player experience and something that fixes a few lingering issues we have seen. Here's what is changing in this build. Feature Updates Added easy single player level Added hard single player level Option menu redone Added windowed mode Added two new achievements Bug fixes/Small changes Zoomed in on cards now will stay on top even when another player scores AI players will not have duplicate names anymore Added more AI player names Found a…
- Still working through some issues - 1 December 2017
The new multiplayer server isn't handling load like we hoped so we are working on some things to optimize it more. We are planning on using this for an upcoming game we have in the pipeline so we want to make sure it works well for this game and more. Along the way we cleaned up the options menu to be more usable, got rid of the mobile like icons and put actual buttons with words on it. It's much cleaner now. Hopefully we will have the update out in a couple weeks. I swear we really are working to get this thing done.
- Multiplayer Update Getting Close - 18 November 2017
The rewrite is taking longer than we thought it would. Ran into some hiccups along the way, but it's coming along. We're in the first stage of testing now, which will likely yield bugs that will need to be fixed, but just want to let everyone know that we are still on top of the update. You will also see a couple small changes when the update comes out. Here's the list Windowed Mode More error logging to track down anything that happens Multiplayer rewrite Lobby screen simplified to show current status only Lobby screen will also give the number of people in the lobby so players can decide if they want to stick around for a game Anygame added to the options for multiplayer games to make it easier to find a game when only a few people are online. This should all be done by the end of the month, as long as we don't run into too many issue, but we are, of course, the greatest programmers a…
- Multiplayer Update - 15 October 2017
We are working on a multiplayer update to hopefully make it easier to find a game. We know that it has to do with the volume of players we have currently so we are creating a "find any game" button that doesn't worry about how many players it can find. So if there are 4 on, it will match all 4 into a 4 player game. But if there are only 2 on, it will match those 2 and let you start playing right away. Hopefully this update will be done by mid November.

- Update 6/29/2017 - 29 June 2017
We have some minor bug fixes going out in this update. We seem to have fixed all known bugs at this time and things seem to have landed at a stable place for the game. We thank everyone who has helped us figure out some of the issues and please do continue to report any problems you may have to the Steam discussion boards so we can fix them up. Thank everyone for all your support and we will continue to support Unreal Estate and let you all know what is coming next for Afterthought Games as we move forward as a good old indie studio. :)
- Update 6/25/2017 - 25 June 2017
We have been hard at work for the past few days tracking down connectivity issues in multiplayer and working to make the Thieves Guild card work in some rare situations. We should have less disconnects now as we managed to find and fix a couple problems with that part of the game. We also managed to find and fix two hard to pin down errors with the Thieves guild card. This should make this card a lot more stable and have less chance to error out when the game picks cards and hands for a player that is taking too long in multi player. We are continuing to work on things as they come in to us and are pleased to have such a responsive player base building. Thanks for supporting Unreal Estate and Afterthought Games, now go build a city.
- Update for 6/24/2017 - 24 June 2017
We pushed out a build this afternoon that should fix the crashing issue when the AI plays the Thieves Guild card in single player action. We are still trying to track down the cause of the Thieves Guild crash in multiplayer, but rest assured we are working on it. If someone can send us an email of exactly what they did when it happens, if they notice, that would be a huge help. We are having a hard time reproducing the issue as it seems to be a rare occurrence. As always, if you notice anything you would like to report, feel free to email us at [email protected]. Thanks for reading this update. Viedt
- Update 6/23/2017 - 23 June 2017
Hello all, The latest build fixed a lot of problems with our international buyers. If you were unable to run the game previously and stopping on a white screen, or unable to click any buttons we have that fixed. Thank you to everyone that helped us track down these issues. We also noticed that some installs were not always being installed with all the files, probably due to massive server load from the summer sale. If you run into a white screen crash upon launching please do the following... Everyone who is getting the White screen. This seems to be a Steam Install issue. Please, right click on Unreal Estate in the steam client, then click on "Properties". In there go to the third tab which is "Local Files" and click on "Verify the Integrity of game files". This should say that you are missing files, and it will then download the missing ones. Thanks you all for your help and support!
- Latest Update 6/19/2017 - 20 June 2017
This update we have improved the "New User" experience. We fixed up the rules page that appears if a user says they have not played Unreal Estate before to be more understandable and make sure the player flips through all the pages before moving on. This should make it so players do not accidentally close the screen out before getting to know how to play the game fully. If you are one of the players that never got a chance to read the full instructions please do click the Gear icon in the lower left of the game screen and there is a Document icon in there with a "?" on it. That icon will open the instructions page for you to flip through. There are arrows to the left and right of the instructions for you to flip the pages. Please keep the input coming so we can improve your experience and thank you for your support.
