- 1.126 - The "oops I introduced a load of bugs with the last patch" patch - 11 July 2025
As proud as I was of the save slot system I introduced in the last patch, the general overhaul of various underlying components led to a few bugs that left the game in a rather broken state. Due to a lot of real-life chaos going on, and the fact that I'm the only person testing the game, I didn't actually realise just how broken it was. If you discovered these bugs, or have now realised that your playthrough's reality has been utterly warped by the bugs in question (which allowed save data to persist when loading during an active session), then I can only apologise. Hopefully I've squashed the biggest bugs now though. Hopefully. Fingers crossed.
- Version 1.125 - 1 April 2025
This patch contains a few quality of life features, including: Save slots! You can now maintain up to 8 different saves for abundant save-scumming. Fixes for scrolling issues when returning from menus. A new dynamic spacer so that text tries to avoid bottoming out based on the size of the added text. The "logmode" feature is now partially on by default - meaning the game will tell you what it thought you meant when it detects a typo and tries to figure it out. Additionally, there's a one-line code fix for a bug that slipped into the last patch, in which it was possible to become a little bit unstuck in time due to certain timed events and effects persisting across saves. Oops!
- NBWorks 1.12 - 24 January 2025
This patch brings The Pilgrimage's core up to spec with all other products on Steam, featuring a new font, some presentation fixes, internal support for the soon-to-be-released novel The Eyes Of Mars, updated covers for currently-supported books... Oh, and the ability for the player to type "Cry" in order to share a moment of misery with the Pilgrim. More to come.
- Fix for quest load error - 20 June 2024
Load system should theoretically be fixed, and no longer cause all quests to pile up in the same heap, causing the journal system to poo itself.
- Major journal bug found - Patch pending... - 20 June 2024
Due to the entire rebuild of the save/load system to solve a possible security vulnerability, it seems that I've introduced a rather major bug, resulting in journal entries being incorrectly loaded. I'm working on a fix right now. Unfortunately, it seems that saving a loaded game compounds the error; baking the messed up journal entries. EDIT: A single line of important code has been deployed. The patch should be live before the day is out. I apologise for any inconvenience.
- Security vulnerability fix - 26 May 2024
Oops I must offer my apologies to the one or two people who might actually be playing the game at the moment - I have nuked your save. This was unavoidable. Due to the manner in which nerds fail to communicate rather important things to the wider world, it came to my attention rather late that my save system - which utilised something called the binary formatter - was potentially unsafe and relied upon technical things that will probably be deprecated in future software in general. Put simply, the way it read data from the save put users at potential risk from code injection - though this risk would only exist if you were downloading someone else's save file from nefarious sources on the internet. So, a minimal edge-case risk, but still one I could not allow. Silver Lining The save system now uses a more flexible xml-based solution, which not only means the game is actually more future…
