- Steam Cloud Support - 28 May 2026
As part of our ongoing efforts to celebrate and enhance the Square Enix back catalogue, we’re reviewing a number of classic titles to see where we can introduce modern quality of life improvements. One key focus has been retrofitting Steam Cloud support, allowing players to seamlessly carry their progress across multiple devices – including PC and Steam Deck. We recently rolled out Steam Cloud Support for Sleeping Dogs and Just Cause 3 with great success, and we’re pleased to share that this work has now been extended to Just Cause, which is available today with full Steam Cloud support functionality. While this update currently applies to a select number of titles, we’re continuing to explore opportunities to expand these enhancements across more of the Square Enix catalogue over time.If you experience any issues with this update, please let us know via the Steam Community Hub, or reach…

You think games take a long time to make? Try movies. We've been hearing rumors of a live-action Just Cause film since waaaaay back in 2011, when The Hollywood Reporter revealed the movie, then called Just Cause: Scorpion Rising . It was already on its second writer... Read more.

- John Wick's creator is writing a Just Cause movie - 22 May 2019
Just Cause is getting a movie adaptation with John Wick creator Derek Kolstad writing. Constantin Film acquired the rights from Avalanche Studios and Square Enix and is apparently hoping it will just be the start of a series. There's always another island full of stuff to blow up.  I doubt there's going to be much need to tweak things to get Just Cause to fit the action movie mould. According to Deadline , it sees Rico Rodriguez once again trying to stop the Black Hand, a mercenary group that's shown up in three of the four games. And like the games, expect him to use his grappling hook, wingsuit and penchant for causing mayhem to help him take down the mercenaries.  The last game was full of spectacle and weaponised weather, but the series is starting to feel a bit creaky. Check out Robert Zak's Just Cause 4 review .    "Just Cause 4 still taps i…

- Just Cause 4 video shows off extreme weather and new stunt tools - 11 June 2018
This isn't the first we've seen of Just Cause 4, but it's our best look yet. The video above is a clip from Square Enix's E3 showcase , which spent a few minutes walking through many of the new tools that will be at your disposal in Just Cause 4's sandbox, and all the crazy shit that can go on within it. Some highlights: The grapple has more tethers, and you can attach booster rockets and air lifters to vehicles or other objects to relocate them. The trailer demonstrates this with a jeep taking flight. Enemies are now smarter, with distinct AI for different enemy types. New vehicles: Bulldozers, car transporters, wrecking balls, jetskis and micro jets. Massive tornadoes, sandstorms, blizzards, and lightning storms can cause environmental destruction and seem systemic. These look rad.
- Just Cause 4 is coming in December, features scary weather - 10 June 2018
While I doubt anyone's surprised by the existence of Just Cause 4 at this point, given that two leaks have happened in the last week , we did just learn its release date during the Microsoft conference: 4th of December. In the footage, we see a few instances of exciting weather: first a tornado in the distance, and later a plane being pulled into one. It otherwise looks like Just Cause as we know it: open world excitement, the wingsuit from Just Cause 3, lots of vehicle types and more.  There's also a dev diary below. It explains that there are four biomes in the game. Rico is up against The Black Hand, a private military force. The game's got an all-new engine, too, to support more elaborate weather physics and more. Expect sandstorms, blizzards and thunderstorms.
- Just Cause 4 confirmed, thanks to early Steam advertisement - 8 June 2018
Just Cause 4 definitely exists, and it's definitely coming to Steam. We were led to expect as much thanks to a leaked Walmart document last month, but now an advertisement for the game has appeared prematurely on Steam. Kotaku spotted the advertisement first (embedded above). Not long after, Wario64 posted the image on Twitter. According to the former, clicking the advertisement only leads to the Steam front page, and there's not currently a store listing for the game. The ad wasn't delivered to me when I logged into the Steam client, so it could have been removed already. It's the latest in a series of pre-E3 leaks, most of which can be traced back to that bothersome Walmart list. Rage 2, Assassin's Creed Odyssey and a new Splinter Cell game were among the highlights of that leak, with Splinter Cell the only major title we've yet to have verified from anot…

- This Teased Image Sure Looks Like Just Cause 3 - 27 February 2013
You know what game was a lot of fun? Just Cause 2 . But as delightful as it was, it had more than its share of flaws. So, you know what game will probably be really fun? Just Cause 3 . And this image shared by Avalanche head Christofer Sundberg on Instagram suuuure looks like a new Just Cause game. Here's the full image: That sure looks like a plane, and that guy sure looks like Rico Rodriguez. Avalanche has several games in development at the moment; Kotaku's resident investigator Superannuation believes that one, code-named "Project Mamba," is likely a new Just Cause . Sundberg recently tweeted another blurry image that also looked like a new Just Cause game, and this new airborne shot seems to reinforce that theory. His description of the image remains cryptic: "Is it a bird? Is it a plane? #yearoftheavalanche #avalanchestudios." First of all: No, it's not a bird. Yes, it's a plane!…
- A Blurry Tease For What Might Be Just Cause 3 - 13 February 2013
Avalanche, the Swedish team behind the Just Cause series, are currently working on three games. Two are licensed properties, while the other, code-named "Project Mamba", is likely to be a new Just Cause game . Especially when you look at this blurry screenshot posted by studio founder Christofer Sundberg. While the outfit and setting could be anything from Indiana Jones to Mars, take a look at the character's left hand. Yup. Sure looks like Just Cause's famous grappling hook to me. The first two Just Cause games were set in lush tropical locations. Maybe a move to somewhere a little more arid is on the cards? Then again, if as seems possible this game is for next-gen systems, there's nothing stopping a third Just Cause game to take place somewhere so vast it can have forests, deserts and everything in between. Especially since Just Cause 2 sort of tried that already. Christofer Sundberg

- People Twitch-Fly Into Helicopters and Other Hilarious Just Cause 2 Multiplayer Glitches - 13 August 2012
The Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod that's currently in development for PC is pretty expansive . But that doesn't mean it escapes the ever-present clutches of funny physics glitches. - Just Cause 2 Mod is Redefining the Term "Massively Multiplayer" - 13 August 2012
To recap: smart people are introducing multiplayer to the PC version of sandbox shooter Just Cause 2. A public beta was held last week , and another is just winding up now. It continues to look like just about the best thing ever . Rather than only letting 4-8 people onto the game's enormous map at a time, the Just Cause 2 Multiplayer team have figured out a way to let hundreds over one thousand people on the same map. A map that's full of vehicles, weapons, grappling hooks and a comical physics system. Human nature takes care of the rest. Just Cause 2 Multiplayer
- The Other Far Cry 3, A Baffling PopCap Mystery And Other Gaming Secrets - 8 August 2012
Editor's Note: Imagine that there are secrets about video games buried under the soil on which you stand. The mysterious person known as Superannuation wields a shovel; so please step a little to the left and see what Superannuation is digging up just for you... Ubisoft's Far Cry 3 was originally going to be a rather different game than the odd, paranoia-tinged open-world FPS we have seen of late , according to a listing on the portfolio of the game's original narrative director , Raphael van Lierop. Van Lierop, who left Ubisoft Montreal towards the end of the game's pre-production in late 2009 , suggests the company wanted to break away from the divisive Far Cry 2 , and position Far Cry 3 as a "reboot" of the exotic, sandbox shooter franchise from the onset of the game's development. He says he worked with God of War writer Marianne Krawczyk and Lost writer Jesse Alexander to craft "a…
